25 at 100 ?
Hey, I guess all  babies born today will only have a birthday every 4 years, allowing them to age 75% slower than their contemporaries.   Think?

Lace-Trimmed Fedora
My fifth husband Mel liked a cold beer on a hot summer day just as much as the next guy.  What he wasn't so crazy about was beer in any weather less than 79 degrees.  In fact, he carried a small thermometer in his pocket 24/ 7 for the express purpose of testing the outside temperature before imbibing.  (Interior temperature didn't matter.)  After Mel and I eloped it didn't take me long to learn that cold beer was for 79 degrees and higher, pinot noir between 58 and 78 degrees and anything chillier than 57 degrees meant heated Baileys with a dash of nutmeg, a sprig of parsley, and a 3" length of strawberry Twizzler.

Wild Mel, with his other idiosyncracies like wearing his John Wayne t-shirt only on Sundays,  his red rubber boots on Fridays and his lace-trimmed fedora on Tuesday afternoons.

He was one of a kind, that's for sure.

American Gangster (The Movie)
Wish I'd seen this one at The Alamo Drafthouse, could have used a side-order of fries and a couple of beers with the bullets and blood.

But put Russell Crowe in a movie and I'll watch it any day.  (Twice.)

I did think the naked Blue Magic parts were funny.

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly (The Movie)
I ever get to feeling sorry for myself because Whole Foods is sold out of those beef wieners I like so much and after a long trudge home through traffic I have to wash and spin the lettuce yet again, I should think of Jean-Do Bauby.   That ought to turn my mood right around.

This should be Best Picture yet it wasn't even nominated in that category.

Funny little fishbowl we swim in.

No Country For Old Men (The Movie)
Hey!  I'd've loaned the Coens a few hundred bucks to give this an ending.   Really, I would've.  And I was starting to think there for a while in the darkened theatre that this just might outdo "There Will Be Blood."   Until.....  But hey, you can't stop what's coming.  And in this funny little world, this could still win Best Picture.

Gone Baby Gone (The Movie)
Why did I keep saying to myself "stupid movie," as I watched this?  Maybe because, uh, it was a pretty stupid movie.

Drugs is bad, knew that.   Stealing is bad, knew that.  Kids come first, knew that.

Best Supporting Actress nomination?  For a one-dimentional character who had maybe 5 minutes screen time?  Compared to the  performance by Tilda Swinton?   Don't think so.

(Won't be able to see "I'm Not There" until it's out on DVD but I'm sure Cate Blanchett was no slouch either.)

La Vie En Rose (The Movie)
And the Oscar for actress in a leading role goes to...  Marion Cotillard.  (Okay, not quite fair as I haven't seen "The Savages" yet with Laura Linney's performance.)    But...  Oh.  Mi.  God.  This was good.  Is this woman really only 32?  (Hey, when you got it, you got it.)

Finally, a satisfying ending!!!  You did good, George, but Daniel nor Viggo need worry about Oscar slipping away.

Atonement (The Movie)
All those white linens, sunshiny gardens and fluffy croissants couldn't mask this film's heavy, heavy heart.   It probably won't stick with me the way "There Will Be Blood" will, but it was still really, really well done.

My Cousin Vinny
My cousin Vinny says he only ever had a pistol in his hand once but that was all it took to shoot the gypsy with 37 bangles on her arms.  (Accidents will happen I guess, when boys with guns are being boys.)  She was a lovely gypsy.   Vinny was picking cotton on Daddy's farm the day she walked up the lane towards him, said she was hungry and waved a couple dollars in the air.  We'd a-never let a gypsy in the house, of course, if Granny'd been at home but seeing as she was out decorating the church, Vinny, Johnny and I invited in the gypsy girl for lunch.  Eggs.  Chicken.  Coleslaw.   Apple pie.  And milk fresh from the cow that morning.  Never saw a woman put away so much food in one sitting.  I wasn't surprised when the meal was over  that she left without leaving the dollars.   I didn't think she deserved to be shot, tho, not even after what happened two months later.  But that's a story for another day.

Hadn't seen Mardi in too many months until last night at Guero's.  A wee bit of an aching head today, sure it has everything to do with Cedar Fever and nothing whatsoever with the frozen margaritas they forced on me.

Eastern Promises (The Movie)
'Way tres graphique in parts in parts for me but Viggo more than rocked.
The scene at the end... was it 100% plausible "X" would stroll off nonchalantly alone carrying "x" on that night-time dock?

Did I Mention Jim Croce? I Wore Out A Few Of His LPs Too.
(For my younger readers, an "LP" is an ancient version of a music CD, in popular use from the middle ages to circa a.d. 1985)
