I Need Man With A Chainsaw

Nova Scotia, Song Stuff | Posted by Jannie on 4 October 2008 @ 9:23 AM 27 Comments

My musical’s plot, setting and character motivations are totally starting to come together!
Show will be set at an outdoor cafe with a motorcycle cop, a man with a chainsaw, a girl who had a wedgie on her wedding day, a broken-down Toyota, three goats, two chickens and a cow.  (Well kinda on those last 3.)
Here’s an Mp3 of part of the title track…   i_need_a_man_snippet
And here’s the Wedgie Wedding song, most of it…  wedgie_wedding_snippet
The third verses of each of those is  a bit of a secret.  You’ll have to come to the show to hear the twist at the end of each!
(P.S. above’s a picture our house in Nova Scotia which is currently not rented, bla, bla, bla,  whose trees do need a man with a chainsaw.  But that’s another story.)

    Hi Jannie –

Thanks for stopping by my blog recently. I do enjoy songwriting and have done so since a teen – Mostly for my own enjoyment – and I have performed at the occasional charity busk. Too old to hope for any future as such but I do help to write the odd tune for my sons’ bands one of which is doing pretty well.

I’ve not had time to read over all your previous posts but it’s clear you’re passionate about music – and quite rightly! I’ll certainly call back to have a listen to anything you have to offer. I’m creating a new myspace music account and for now I have only one recording on it, but the clarity isn’t great, so I’m working on that! Nice to have ‘met’ you, and I’ll visit as often as possible!

With a plot like that, one would think you could work in the bats from under the Congress Avenue bridge.

Musical=grand plans! Me n a friend wrote one in our teens, wonder what happened to that script- we borrowed most of the songs tho.
I never have a problem writing, just an issue with feeling it’s done, never mind finishing projects. Seems there’s always room for improvement n revision. I tend to write tons of snippets wanting siblings.

    Hello Jannie,
Those are really funny songs! :-) That second one reminded me a little of John D. Loudermilk’s songs. Have you heard him before?

Thanks for dropping by my blog. I don’t think I actually have a link to my new song in my Thought Vacuum journal.

You might like it, as it’s a humorous song as well:

Well met, Jannie and thanks for visiting.

Songwriting is about telling stories and I’ve been thinking recently it’s one of the few areas of story writing I haven’t tried.

Problem is that I’m a wind instrument player and my mouth is usually doing other things when the music is playing :-)

    See you soon!

Hey Jannie, Thanks for your comment. Your songs are a riot, loved ‘em. I’ve written one musical and I can tell ya this – you’ve gotta have a good book. Have you read “Story” by Robert McKee? Best book on storywriting ever.
