Doris to register nine

What if I told you there was a world where  “leaves the color of toffee lipstick settle on the surface of small bodies of water like recaptured kisses,
where you wrap the morning around you like a robe of silken mist,
where poems wash up in drifts on the furniture,
where depressed demons drown their sorrows in chocolate cake at Denny’s,
robots fall in love with curling irons,
and even the Marlboro Man eventually trades in his old black skillet for a dream kitchen and a yard in the ‘burbs?”
Wouldn’t you want to get lost in that world?
And often?
I do!   And I more than highly recommend it.

Update:  those lines above within the quotes are all from Shay’s poems, just so y’all don’t get to thinking I’m suddenly brilliant. :)   Even “Doris to register nine,” is hers, which I think is a freaking wonderful line, maybe even a title for a song.

I laughed that of all the lines in all of my poems, you should choose “Doris To Register Nine” for the title of this piece. And to mention the Robot In Love as well! Whiirrr, beeeeeep!

Mwah. You’re an ace, woman! :-)

Incredible poem, Jannie; real nice wordsmithing. You are beginning to hit your stride and now you go, girl. Sounds like there is “more to the story” RE the title and Shay’s comment, and yet to have a title that rings like a non-sequitor is cool too./leaves the color of toffee lipstick settle on the surface of small bodies
or water like recaptured kisses/….wow, great simile and depth. Toffee lipstick certainly does sound kissable. to/wrap the morning around you like a robe of silken mist/ brings tears to my eyes as it resonates and vibrates; terrific alliteration in /depressed demons drown their sorrows/; and to have /robots fall in love with curling irons/ is both kinky and wild and semi-Philip K. Dick; one of your tag words is “fireblossom” which would have been a servicable title as well, unless of course it was already used by Shay over on that site. Keep the imagery coming, lady, for you are prying open a can of words that will never close, never heal, never be satiated.

Shay: But of course my little fireblossom. Oh, and I find I do need to take a break from 1,000,000 poems after about 47 in a row. Then sleep. Then read again. Without the break I cannot appreciate each one as I should. Even good poems in moderation, eh?

Snag: Being a fine writer yourself, you will no doubt appreciate hers and she yours.

Glenn: But I will disappoint you on days I tell about my laundry stain woes and comparison shopping on shoes. Then you will realize I too am mortal and will leave me for more promising shores. And I won’t blame you. I might have called this “Like Verlaine’s and Rimbaud’s.” But I didn’t.

Shay: Yeah, I just put that update in there even tho I already had the quote marks, due to those couple of comments where poeple thought I had actually written those gems, heh, heh. I hope you get lots of new readers for your wonderful stuff.

Carla: Yes recaptured kisses. Still a bit enigmatic to me in how it could be interpreted but a very original train of thought indeed.

Talon: Takes a good poet to know one, or at least a poet’s heart, eh?

Weyrd1: She is a true poet whereas I play around at it sometimes.

Ms. Fireblossom; based on the intensity of your comment over on my site, of course I removed the poem. Sorry, again, to step on your creative toes. Interesting reaction though; quite strident and vitreolic. Perhaps some day you will “give me permission” to share some of your fine poetry with others. Until then the fireblossom garden is nicht verboten.

Shay: You are a Muse Incarnate. Your beautiful poetry is jaw-droppingly moving. (New fan here.)

Glenn: You have my sympathy for your good intentions, which you surely regretted as they spiralled so awry. For your well-meant but nonetheless brazen deed, I hereby nominate you Honorary Pinata of the Week.

Jannie (my dear Jannie): You are to be commended for directing the spotlight hither and yon upon your fellow gifted writers (much as Glenn was attempting to do); you are a treasure, you know. (And please forgive…my MadLibs stand poised once the snifflies have abated. xoxoxo)

On 21 November 2008 at 7:41 am Glenn Buttkus said,

Thank-you Jae, and I accept the nomination as “Pinata of the Week”. And as I review my stupid remarks I realize that good intentions were never enough to keep one out of the pit of negative vibes. I really was naive and thought the poem was Jannie’s, and suffered under the misunderstanding that A)it was a wonderful poem (Shay, you are a very talented poet and I now love reading your other stuff, and all the gushing I did in my response to the poem I still believe in; just transfer the kudos) and needed to be “shared” immediately. And B) that Jannie had given permission for me to share her stuff. My apology was sincere, and I learned a valuable lesson here. I am a bit of a neophyte to blogging, and did not fully understand or appreciate the parameters and ground rules. Things certainly did “spiral awry”, as Jae put it. I felt like a stupid thief and fool. I was also still hovering in the land of levity, and making smart ass comments midst my apology, and should have had the good sense not to do so. This is blood under the bridge; all mine. I promise to behave myself in future, and hope that Shay will forgive an old man’s folly. Sharing the spotlight is what Blogging is all about, but I will pull in my horns now that there is a knot tied in my tail.

Cath: Since my niche is actually quite niche-less, I can post all kinds of things. But what YOU are writing is helping so so many of us bloggers and buniness owners. Each and every one of your posts is informative, inspiring and heartfelt. And lucky me to still have all your archives to glean from. Your comment makes me think you are perhaps a closet poet?

Jae: I must direct the “treasure” description right back at you of course. I may well not be even blogging today if it wasn’t for you who inspired and saw me through all those years in the blogging dark. Thank you for your upliftingness, now and always. Appreciate your spirit and your charm. And your sense of fashion in footwear.

Glenn: When you called Shay “sir,” I thought you meant it as a slight. If I did not get your sense of humor and in turn offended you by calling you rude, I do apologize. It sounds like you are as much as a nut for fabulous poetry as I am. And you are sure right about Shay’s poetry – she’s got the gift.

AND EVERYONE: If I knew then what I know now, before I published this post I most certainly would’ve started it with “Here are some lines by a poet-friend of mine…” And even tho I had the quote marks in there, I think I could’ve dispelled some confusion right from the start had I right off the bat attributed the lines to Shay. Living and learning…

Now, back to flinging those bras!!

Lance: You little ray of sunshine, do you love poetry too?
