More priceless than all the golden bras in the world, and the happy flinging thereof

Recently Liz Strauss over at her very Successful (and outstanding,) Blog asked ”What’s Priceless To You?” to which I responded….  “My daughter’s laugh.  My husband’s whistle.  My dad’s elfish grin.  My mom’s beef stew.  My cat finally coming to snuggle beside me now that the nights are cold.”
How about you?  What’s priceless in your life?

Family, health, memories, and being able to provide for the necessities and extras of life.

I reflected on the question and kept coming back to the refrains that are heard over and over from victims of disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and wildfires — and from those who are losing their homes and jobs in the uncertainties of today.

“I lost everything, but we’re all still alive.”

“Everything is gone, but we still have each other.”

What Jannie? It’s not the bra flinging? I, for one – am surprised!! Are you telling the truth??

What’s priceless to me? Hmmm…I’m copying you on one of them – my children’s laughs – hearing their happiness is one of the greatest joys their is! And my wife’s heart – she wears it on her sleeve – something I very much value and appreciate. And my own soul – without it, I would be “lost” in this world…

This is good stuff to think about Jannie…thank you.

Mike: Those last two lines say it all. And more. Thank you.

Michael: I am very grateful for your sense of observation too! The scenes you paint never cease to astound with their clarity.

Lance: Sounds like you have a very lucky family to have you think so much of them. And what I’ve seen of you so far you’re a true great guy.

Lena: “A dashing of snow in the background,” how lovely. I can see you all there on a soft winter night, smiling. Beautiful.

Rhett: Wow, must be some powerful soccer for it to be better than “romancing a beautiful female.” Are they giving free food and drink there? Giving free sports cars away? BETTER than romance?!

Lynn: I know you are the Queen of wonderful things and I think yours will be the next site I do a little blurb for, should be daily required reading for all bloggers.

Csquared+3: I know exactly what you mean about the moments. For me lately it was Kelly lightly rubbing my cheek the other day as she sang “You are my sunshine.” A Mike Meyers “Verklempt,” and more moment for me.

Jina: It was my humbling experience to find your site. I cried again today telling a friend about the death of your baby and the way you write about it.

Shay: All the good stuff of life. I like the thought of “the company of books,” thank you. Lord knows they’ve been solid friends to me many times of loneliness.

Georgie B: I like your last line best! ;) no, but seriously, your site is special to me too. Thanks for sticking with me.

Miladysa: Of course, you wonderful family girl. They are all so precious.

Stephanie, I had a rare relationship with Jim’s mom too. You and I were very lucky, most mother-in-law stories (stereotypically, I know,) don’t sound as sweet.

FRIENDS: It’s been a full day. I was actually away from a computer for almost an eight-hour stretch of my life today. Amazing – there is life outside computers – trees and birds and people and a river and the sky and stuff!!

It is only 9:02 on a Saturday night (Nov. 22, 2008) but I am going to have a 4th mug of hot apple cider with mulled spices(no alcohol, I swear, and yes, I’m freaking addicted since Jim brought home a gallon of it today,) and hit the hay. Maybe read a few pages of my new “Blogging For Dummies,” have a chunk o chocolate and drift off into sweet sweet welcome loving sleep.

It’s great reading what is priceless to other people and having it reaffirm the belief that it’s not the things that matter, it’s not the stuff…it’s precious moments shared with those we love and care about.

There are so many priceless things in my life…and I’m grateful I don’t take them for granted. If I had to list them, you’d grow tired of reading about them, but children’s laughter, puppy growls, and seeing a sweet crescent moon in good company rank high on the list.

Thanks for posing such a great question, Jannie.

In many ways, I think it’s fairly difficult to narrow down what’s priceless. Like most parents, I have to say my children’s laughter, their curiosity and their love of life. My husband’s love, my family’s love and acceptance. Health, our minds, our ability to actually live and enjoy life. The smell of fresh rain on a fall day. My pillow and a quiet house.

What a plethora of wonderful sentiments and thoughts. Lots of fine folk in this Jannie blog club. One of my favorite things is, of all things, Bras. Raising three daughters and loving women all my life has led me to an appreciation of bras that perhaps is odd for a man. And ironically, today I notice the “My Peeps Speak” column is gone, and the Funster Home Page has become BRAS ‘R US. Seriously though, children’s laughter–especially my two grandson’s, my wife’s gaze at breakfast, holding hands at a movie or a play, memories of so many of my family that have made their transition to the other side of the veil, the feline vocabulary my tomcat has, wet maple leaves, Sherman Alexie’s poetry, a good Western film…..and a couple other things.

    MY MIGRAINE IS GONE!!!!!

Monday Morning here, November something… ah 24th.

Momisodes: Yes, it is a cute photo isn’t it? The restaurant was dark and I put as much light on the photo as I could without it going all wonky. They is my two precious ones! Health, I am so lucky to have it too. SO LUCKY!!

Talon: a sweet crescent moon in good company, how sweet. Even in prose you are poetic.

Karyn: Whoa, that one really got me. That truly is priceless. THANK YOU!! Love is it.

Fancy: How sweet. Hugs are the best – anytime. Anywhere.

Snag: Memories light the corners of my mind… Sweet. And we’re always creating new ones.

Robbi: We are often wrong, aren’t we, about what lies ahead? My husband bucked me for a while on having kids, then later admitted repeatedly to having been a real as#ho*e about that. I am sooooo looking forward to being a grand-ma. Kelly wants 12 so I can’t wait. But hopefully will wait until she’s at least 30. Or 25. Or 21.

Mia: So beautifully put. Thank you!! The smell of fresh rain on a fall day – certainly priceless! I freaking LOVE this planet!

Lynn: Maybe the 4 mugs of cider on Saturday night was not a good idea. Plus I was a little stressed and under a deadline from working on a website for my hubby – but website done and migraine gone. Yay!!

Glenn: Ain’t I lucky to have all you wonderful blog buds?! Three daughters, eh? I bet you hve some tales to tell. Beautiful sentiments. Sherman Alexie, a new one for me to discover. Thanks!!

What’s priceless? All my buds back home (Orange County, CA). Since my voluntary transplant to the East Coast to explore the other side of this giant bisquit known as the US, I miss the impromtu coffeehouse hauntings and mall trollings with one particular chick, and the last-minute drives down to San Diego or out to Vegas for a weekend of debauchery, cheap martinis and skanky dresses with my Viking and other pals. D.C.’s okay, though. You just need a Brooks Brothers, camel overcoat to cover up the skanky dress.

I also find my latest L.A.M.B. skirt purchase priceless. Oh, wait a minute. That was pricey. Nevermind.
