Blogging Poems

Blog Promise

As the first janitor is arriving,

the first CEO tightening his tie,

the first cook tying her apron –
I will be here writing, getting
a jump on the blog day, setting
up my stall of jpegs and words,
unfurling my awning of songs
and thoughts to see us through
another day of joy and sorrow.

Think of Me

Think of me as I yearn to surf 300 blogs daily.
Think of me as you go about your art and work,
as you turn your eyes to clocks and fine pastries.
See me in my attic room with my coffee and candle,
hunched over my golden guitar, fingers pressed to
strings and frets to spin some melodies and words
to make us both smile or laugh or cry — or all three.
Think of me in afternoons when planes go humming
towards dying stars as you are heading homeward –
I’ll be the leaves rushing past you in a tune of green.

Timeline

The Big Bang.
Earth cools.
A Roman slave
breaks a new
crystal glass.
I write this,
which a girl
2000 years
from now
may read.
(Or not.)

Blog Promise puts me in mind of the businesses I pass on my way to work just before 7am. Trucks unloading in front of the pizzeria and liquor store getting them ready for pizza for the day and selling adult beverages. And at the same time you are unfurling your awnings of songs and thoughts. I like that imagery.

Jannie, you foxy wordsmith, you. My favorite of the poetic trio is THINK OF ME, with bitchin lines like
    /Think of me in afternoons
    when planes go humming
    toward dying stars
    as you are heading homeward–
I’ll be the leaves rushing past you
    in a tune of green./
Now THAT is some fine writing. The jocular nature of the rest of the poem is also wonderful, of course, topical yet personal. I hope to join your late night creativity club one day soon….well in a little over a year when I retire. Thanks to the cyber gods for you, your blogsite, and many more that will keep my interest peaked and my creative juices flowing.

Lovely! You are a true wordsmith. I like your poems, and I’m not just saying that. I hate it when I read a friend’s poem and it’s Godawful and I’m forced to choose between honesty and a carefully crafted lie to preserve the friendship. This is one of the reasons my husband and I are going to truck it up the mountain and live off the land.

So here I am back in all my glory. Went as far as I could on guitar for a while. Hope to get a lesson Friday with my former teacher Michael who doesn’t let me get away with any crap, as well he shoudln’t.

Lance: Do you liek pastries too? I absolutely LIVE for them. Yes, come on over and bring EVERYONE else too! Coffe sounds swell.

Lynn: Thank you, it kind of came out of nowhere. I considered inserting a line about sweeping off the sidewalks but it didn’t work. So there it was. Is.

Glenn: Thannk you, my wonderful freindly fan! You’ll be retired before you know it. Will you drive your wife crazy then? Just the thought of having another human around here all day with me (albeit one I love dearly,) makes me think I’ll hole up in Kelly’s treehouse for my artistly me time.

Jewel: It always amazes me when I put up a few poems at one time, which ones will speak to different people most.

K: Whaat in the heck did we ever do before blogging???

Heather: Thank you. I must admit poems come to me pretty easy now, when I’m in the mood. Luckily I only read the poetry site of poets whose writing I really really like, so I get to always be sincere in my praise.

CSquared: Funny how they all came to me at once yesterday morning. Oh, except the third one. I wrote that a couple weeks ago.

Dot: That’s my favorite too! Thanks.

Alik: Really, even thoough they all seem to deal with dying, they are refreshing?? Yay. I’m not making everyone slits their wrists over my poems!!! Freaking-A!

Susan: What a beautiful synopsis and comment, most philosophical! Thank you.

Mad Cat Lady: I did the exact opposite of how I usually spend my days – I got the harder stuff out of the way FIRST! I’m totally going to think about making that a habit.

Sweet Lovely Belle, thank you. You are dear to my heart too, all your naughty blog posts aside. ;)

Liara: Much obliged. I usually cloak myself in funstering around here, so my poems are my deeper “real” thoughts. I’ve always been so in love with poetry and something lately has happened that I can write some. Peace, I think.

    I love you all.

Oh Robbi, and Jannie, you make me want to join in and whip out a blogging poem:’

    Addicted to Bra-Flinging

I rise bleary-eyed to the eerie sounds
    of the night birds squawking,
flying wing to wing with the bats,
in order to drive fast deep into the arms
of brown icy fog, on isolated roads
through sleeping suburbs, with only barking dogs
and randy raccoons serenading me as
I scurry like a shadow midst tall firs
and scattered adobe structures, pale white beneath
the harvest moon scowling down, moonbeams
dancing with the winter’s breath that proceeds me
into a my dark building, along black hallways,
only to sequester myself alone in my office,
anxiously activating my computer in order
to stroke my horny blog, and several others
for delicious hours before others stir around me,
before sweet old blind men gather
at my door, needing my expertise, my knowledge,
    my compassion, and most of my attention;
yet even mired in teaching, deep in explication,
behind my twinkling corneas I treasure
    the everlasting joys of Jannie
out there in the cyber void
    of Funsterland.

Debbie: I suppose in reality 50 blogs a day would be fun to keep up with but that would probably take 4 hours if one wanted to really read and comment properly. So 350 a week, whoa!

Glenn: Alas, a cybervoid indeed is what I’ve got here for in the end all shall pass away, except for the Kingdom of God. Really a great poem you’ve submitted here. You must be up very very early. The line “Sweet old blind men gathering at my door,” is so touching. And I can tell behind your cyper nuttiness you are indeed one fine hooman bean.

Wade: The one-same Wille of On The Road Again is a many-splendored man indeed. Thanks for your kindness of word, thought and deed.

Tess: I am deeply and humbly thankful for such positive feedback. Cooincidentally, I had a Danish for breakfast. And a pastry too, hee, hee.

Snag: You are often in my thoughts too as I meander about my path on this planet. You really are. And I feel the fullest depth of your artistry has yet to be revealed, for deep runs the well-spring of your undeniable talent and you shall find your best times yet ahead of you.
