Jeanne: You are a wealth of info on that. Thank you! Let's hope those people didn't get eloctrocuted right out of the shower all wet with their computers.

And what you say here. "Twitter is what you make of it. For a long time, I used it infrequently and didn’t really “get it”. Now, I use it much more but try to fight getting “sucked in” to something I can’t keep up with time-wise..." bears repeating.

Barbara; I imagine you WILL see me on Tweetdeck someday before too long! Let's have a party then, okay??

Kim: This makes good sense... "But I also say that if you don’t enjoy something, don’t do it. Not everything is for everyone." And maybe in time I'll be a BIG twitterer. Thanks for your always great input.

Evelyn: I think I'm following you, right?? I may just catch onto to it in a good way. We'll see!

Wow...so many comments before mine just on twittering. I've recently begun using more of twitter, mainly to tweet about posts, helping bloggers retweet and posting inspirational quotes. I'm not quite sure about exact stats but it seems that I've been getting followers almost every day.

Jannie - You are SO funny that we would love to read your funny comments on twitter. It took me awhile after I started using it to "get" it. But I really like it - I can quickly interact with people from all over the world, get help with questions, and send out links to my articles. I have people who subscribe to my feed, my newsletter, and then people who stop by because my article post interested them.

There are, however, more and more annoying types trying to sell something and people who only self-promote. The best thing is to stop following them.

But I also say that if you don't enjoy something, don't do it. Not everything is for everyone.

And I never once made the connection between twitterpated in Bambi and twitter - you're awesome.

Hi Jannie - I'm following you. Just waiting to see you on Tweetdeck the same time as I am. I know you'll catch on fast and enjoy it as much as I do.

Jannie,

As far as 140 characters, no one is wordier than me (!!) and I have gotten used to it over time. In fact, it SAVES me time because I can use twitter to force myself to send a short tweet and avoid getting sucked into my horrific email box (that SUCKS TIME) or getting lured into Facebook (another time sucker). I can actually SAVE time with twitter if I discipline myself on how much time to spend on it.

I never thought I'd get used to 140 characters but you'd be amazed at what I can fit in a tweet now! (Especially with TweetDeck which gives a separate field to include links relevant to the text of the tweet)!

For me, I can't stand reading people's goofy "I just stepped out of the shower" updates and that's one of the reasons I greatly prefer twitter to Facebook because I see LESS of that annoying stuff. I don't CARE who stepped out of the shower! Sheesh, people. If they just stepped out of the shower, shouldn't they be drying off or something? Gee whiz, why are they online then?

So, too much of that nonsense on Facebook really frustrated me.

Anyway, as you know... my blog posts tends to be very serious and about health-related stuff. So I don't send silly messages on twitter. Some people send silly (bad silly... as in people who think they're funny but aren't) "jokes" but most people don't. I try to pick carefully who to have as a twitter friend. If someone's going to clog up my TweetDeck with junk, I just block them! One less "follower"... of well! I simply don't have the time to waste.

Now, for someone genuinely funny like you, I think you could send out your HYSTERICAL quips and brighten people's day. They'd be retweeting your brilliance all over twitter-land, I'm sure.

Oh, you can swipe the twitter symbol from my blog. Can't remember where I found it. Hunted it down one day. It's a cute blue button with a birdie on it.

Twitter is what you make of it. For a long time, I used it infrequently and didn't really "get it". Now, I use it much more but try to fight getting "sucked in" to something I can't keep up with time-wise.

It's kind of complicated to cover in a blog comment...

Email me and I'll help you. I'd tweet you some tips but I'm not concise enough to cover it that way! :) So I'd be better off emailing with you.

I really didn't "get" twitter for a long time. I had it for months before I used it much. Mainly that's because I was trying to do it from the web... which really isn't fun. TweetDeck has changed the whole game for me!!

Now I'm hooked. There are some great causes out there that twitter's great for promoting (such as how we used it for endo awareness). Twitter was IMMENSELY helpful during Endometriosis Awareness Month. We increased awareness a great deal with the help of twitter! Those #endo tweets are still rolling in!!

Granted, there are also greedy scammers out there using it (like anything). But I can tell you how to get connected with the people you want to be connected with on twitter.

I'm a big believer that people's obsession with getting as many followers as possible at all costs is just wrong. I try to only follow people I have some common interest with.

I don't care what my number is (followers). It's not a popularity test. Anyone can accrue huge numbers of followers simply by adding everyone and anyone randomly.

In fact I just read an article proposing that twitter should ban that "follow number" because people are getting so obsessed with the numbers that it's detracting from twitter's good qualities.

So it's all in how you use it. I can tell you that TwwetDeck (desktop application for managing tweets) makes twitter a million times easier than just doing it from the web. I just LOVE TweetDeck!

C'mon, Grannie... tweet with me. You'll like it. :)
