The CDs Have Landed!

Ass Kicking, Song Stuff | Posted by Jannie on 5 May 2009 @ 8:16 AM 63 Comments

Got them last week!  Was going to start taking orders yesterday but decided to wait until after the Release show Sunday, so I can focus this week on strumming my gee-tar, perfecting my macaroni sheep sculptures and kissing the running trail trees with my eyes.

Plus, I need to find me a fabulous new blue shirt!!  And maybe even some super-funky pants.

Here’s the CD’s front cover.

Here’s the back cover. (Totally went for the barcode, Dudes!)

And this sticker… (but smaller than depicted here,)

will go on the outside of the shrinkwrap of the CDs to be sold in stores.

In total, “I Need A Man,” includes 8 full-color pages of art, photos, writing and other never-before-seen stuff.  And the songs sounded good before but now with the packaging they sound, IMHO, pretty darn great.  How is that?

CDs available locally at Waterloo Records, starting next week, I hope.

Mail orders available directly from me — each CD packed in a pristine bubble envelope with aromatic moonbeams, Texas morning air and a specially chanted Jannie love incantation.   With a free Jannie autograph, if desired — the latter which will necessitate shrinkwrap removal.

$10.00 USD per CD.   Low shipping and handling, details to be posted Monday on my new Buy CD page.

I plan to put the songs on iTunes too, when I figure it out.  And maybe or CD Baby or some other such dew-fangled thing, if it makes sense.

Oh!!  Guess what?!  I’ve put another 6 MP3 snippets from the CD up on my Song Samples page.  Have a listen if you’re so in the mood.  They vary from about 45 to 60 seconds each.

And friends, my posting may be especially light for the rest of this week, to give myself a little pre-show “vacation” and allow me to get over with joyful abandon to read all your blogs.  Yay!

So take care and I’ll see you soon!!    xo

I know a few musicians who use CD Baby and really like it – simple, cost effective and easy to set up and can be co-ordinated with itunes, etc.

I can’t wait for some of those “aromatic moonbeams”. Your CD promises to be a complete sensory experience!

You’re doing exactly what I would expect of a modern day musician living in a Web 2.0 world:
    - connecting with folks
    - sharing stories along the way
    - giving previews and getting feedback
    - performing live and sharing your shows

Good stuff. You’re a model for others.

Been listening to musical snippets and congratulate you on such a professional product. Do you have a studio in your own home? I have friends with such a set-up in Melbourne. Had no idea what is possible in that arena. Did video editing during university and the sound and music mixing were a true adventure with equipment I had on-hand. Product took days to edit yet I learned much and grew exponetially from that experience.

    Jannie said,

Okay, all fresh and ready to try this again – even better this time.

Kimmi: Thank you so much. And you know once my show date is past I will be seeking out your recently released “The Unbreakable Child.” I understand it to be on a very grave topic, one you had much courage to write and no doubt dredged up so much you would rather have kept buried. Bravo on your courage!

Chris: Thanks! Actually seeing it materialize is quite something indeed. I need to pinch myself, or at least peer into the big box of CDs to know this is truly true.

Talon: CD Baby – I should probably have looked into it before, to hopefully give anyone wanting a CD a great deal, but I’ve been kind fo stumbling along. Living and learning. And Dear Talon, what aroma combo would you like me to infuse your CD package with?? You name it!!!

Lynn: Thank you so much! I hope it will not disappoint in anyway. Money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied for any reason. I would say hang onto it tho. Collectors’ item one day?? Only printed 200 to start and the second edition will have slight changes to it. Can you belive I forgot to give Jim his credit for his part on Mototcycle Cop!? My bad Jannie.

TCFKAL: You can be just you again, if you wish All your errant ways forgiven. :) :) :) And you know – you will actually be the first person to receive the CD by mail, as you are owed those two from your winning the 4-leaf-clover contest. Remember? that effing clover. LOL. Do you want one autographed?

Betsy: Hi again, so great to see you. And thanks. That will be the last hurrah for my big eye. Maybe. I took that pic myself you know. Actually I took both those, the one on the back cover too. In my car one day. Who knew? Now YOU do!! (But just our little secret, eh?)

Tammy!! Yay!!! I actually did it, thanks to the support and inspiration of friends like you. Remember several months ago it was just a vague dream. And now I hve the CD snd will be playing guitar on most of the songs at the show.

J.D. Your comment is soooo very very very nice. Thank you!! Well, I guess I’m just following a path that seems the right way to go for me. And the Internet is such an incredible sharing place. If there were any one bit of advice or inspiration I would say, (to steal someone else’s quote,) “feel the fear and do it anyway.” I’m living proof of that, for sure.

Lisa: Thanks so much. I wonder if I will see you in the audience Sunday? I would probably burst out crying like a sap to meet you. Sappy-sappy me. Or maybe I’ll meet you on a street here in Austin and recognize you. Could happen, my unmet local blogging bud.

Susan: Thank you so much! Now I can’t wait to decide which songs to write next to record. Songs… come to me… come hither.

Patricia: I’ll have your bottle of rose (rosay) there with me! Yes Mothers’ Day, a fitting one to give birth to the rest of my life. Incredibly, there’s a small (the fleetingly nervous,) part of me that hopes everyone will have other plans that day. Silly! The ones who are present – oh we shall have such a great fun time! And of course I’ll be taping the show.

Hey Aimee: Thanks. Musically I definitely would
ve changes some of what I did – I was learning as I went. Totally! But I think we managed to capture some pretty good stuff for my first time out. Oh, and as above, I forgot to mention Jim was the Motorcycle Cop’s voice. Oh, and my sister’s song, Rosie’s Song, I never was quite convinced I did a good enough job with the lyrics. But luckily I have them now and will be singing the revised ones at the show. I also should’ve put in a couple of instrumentals to break up a couple of songs. But on with next project!!

K: Thanks! And how could it not go well? For any difficulty is only perceived anyway. It better go well! No, I’m excited, such an adventure indeed.

Ditmar: I no speak your language but I do thank you for whatever you said. I assume it was friendly, witty and a propos of this post. Thank you. The Force be with you.

Lane: That was no chicken. That was my lunch.

Salwa: Hello. And welcome. Thanks so much for a lovely congratulations! And – ah ha, I see you suffer from the One Big Eye Syndrome, as do I. Have you learned to live peacefully with it, as have I?

Liara: Thank you so much. And you are kind to listen to the snippets. All those tracks were recorded at Parrott Tracks Studio just south of Austin. I originally did my demos here at home, which I will do again for the next songs. It is an eye-opening experience for sure, isn’t it? Fascinating. The editing can surely go on and on and on. For me the Real Studio with a guy who is good at and knows what he is doing, is the way to go for my finished product! Do you know Robin & Frank there in Melbourne? She of LetsliveForever!.net? They do recording.

Now… let me not accidently cut this comment this time.

(’Course, you were pro’ly just talking ’bout your bloggy buds. But I’m sorta one of those, too, just a regular bud more.) Jannie Sue, you are such a gifted and generous songwriter, such an expressive singer, such a fearless soul, and such an all-round sweetie-pie to boot. Paige: Ordering details here Monday! Get it wile it’s HOT!

Snag: Tease, taunt, tease, what a marketer I’ve become eh?? I wish I could send everybody a free copy, but I need to $$$ to fund future stuff, like a brand new gorgeous pair of running shoes to exercise a lot and look absolutely smashing on my David Letterman spot!

Davina: I think break a leg will work just fine. And hopefully not break a vocal cord. But I’m not worried about that, my voice is treating me well and vice versa. A few passing nerves now and then, but that’s to be expected! Oh and I read and did the first breathing mantra today. Freaking awesome!!!!!

Sheila: Oh, psshaw. But it is kind of a cute cover, eh?? And Kelly is the writer and singer on Song 13!!! you’re gonna LOVE it!

Wade: Yeah, I’m going to Waterloo tomorrow to check out how to put the CDs with them. How hard can it be? There are also oter stores in town ‘ll investigate. And Oh My Gosh, I wonder if I’ll have a hope in hell of not only a review but maybe a half-decent one from the Chronicle? We’ll see…

Jae, Jae, Jae, Jae, with egg on my red face and both feet in my mouth I do stand corrected on Lance not about to be the first one to receive his CD by mail! There was you. And George Coyne. And my mom. Why am I so bad to you, my shy but incredibly efficient and prompt graphic designer ? But I guess you must see some redeeming quality or other in me to write me up such a glowing (non-biased,) report here. I wish I had actually been much more expressive in my singing but I thought for a person totally wracked with nerves before each studio session it managed to come out acceptable-to-good. Just wait til the next CD!! And thanks Jae, I love you so much. And could not have done this without your help. Here’s to the wheels of fate and the wheels of our friendship – long may they continue to roll towards good things.

The Blue Eye descends upon us. The back cover is wonderful too. What’s this about retiring the big blue eye? You will wow them on Sunday, and as has been pointed out, it will be your Mother’s Day gift to first Austin, then all of Texas, then the internet and all your loyal Funsters, and then the Universe itself. I will be right in line, on line, for my CD on Monday I tell you. You had so many contests at one point I had convinced myself I had already won one, but NO….so I will pony up the 10 bucks plus S&H, and bite my nails while that little bit of Miss Janie travels snail mail all the way up to the great Northwest. Your followers in Australia might order too. I really hope that you sell 100 CD’s just to the eager Funsters first. Kelly makes the world’s cutest CD Angel for sure. Congratulations on the CD. Mama Z: Thank you! I iz happie.

Tammy: I have already hit the bigtime which is fulfilling my personal goal and stretching myself as far as I can. Anything else will be gravy.

Lisa: THE woman, yeah that’s me! ;)

King: Awesome. I’m pretty stoked too. The good energy is a-flowin’ for sure.

Mia: Isn’t the barcode indeed a thing of wondrous beauty?! Michelangelo himself would fall down on his knees, I bet. ;)

Hey Cinder: You do make great sense on the CD-Baby thing. Since I have no day job and have experience with eBay sales I’m hoping I can handle the mail sales. Initially anyway. Until with my second CD and I get just soo big I can’t handle even myself.

Sara: Thank you. I am proud of me for working so hard lately to bring this all together! I’ll actually be playing guitar on 8 of the 11 songs I’ll be performing tomorrow. 6 months ago I could only play 3 of my own songs on guitar decently. (I do kind of rock now, don’t I!?) ;)

Debbie: Well thanks! The colors are kinda cute, eh? So exited.

Happy Heather! Your mom reads my blog?? How funny. She must be one of your commenters, right? And yes, I will post a purchase button! GREAT idea!!! Oh, and believe me I MORE than understand only having so much time to get around to read blogs. And you know I’ll be your blog bud for as long as we’re both willing and able.

Glenn: Thank you, thank you, thank you on all your wonderful enthusiam. I did go for a professional look. And sound. And there are more visual feasts within those 2 covers!

Jewel. Thank you so much. Once in a while I come up with something not bad, don’t I? :)

Oooo Patricia: Did I get some link love there?? Must go read your Lightening Up The Motherlode extravaganza! I have not visited your blog in a whole 2 days!!

G: Yep, yep, yep, Buying details here Monday! And I LOVE that line “semi-somebody”!!! That’s what I am now too.

Robin: To capture aromatic moonbeams one must do it in the dead of night as frogs are singing and cats on the prowl, preferably while blossoms are all sleeping. And an awesome tip on Tunecore. Had never heard of them. Thank you.

Dot: And Awesomely Total too, I’m sure!! ;)

Chris: I actually consulted with a few people yesterday and they think my show is actually PG rated, so I’ve upgraded the family-friendliness factor. I was worried my Wedgie Wedding song might corrupt the wee ones. I do tend to worry too much sometimes about offending people, but I’ve got my whole life to get over it.

Susan: Yeah, duh Jannie! Did I write that comment late late at night or something? It kinda does look like a boxing ring, if you really stretch your imagination, tho. ;)

Robbi: Ahh, “Edge’s Orchestra,” and very fond of him is I. And perhaps I will revert to my God-given name of Jannie VonVanDerVester someday, but maybe not. Alas, you are ahead of us all, I fully acknowledge that and have ever since you graced my page whenst I lured you to this den of funiquity. I can only listen and learn from you.

    Christina: Yay! Thank you.

Snag: That would me left leg that’s good. The right has always been so so naughty.

    Natural: Proud indeed! Thanks.

Ching Ya! Thanks. The Mystery Tune is one I just could never fit lyrics into I was happy with but I liked the melody, so I made it an instrumental and won first prize for it!

Thank you thank you thank you, all.

Cricket: yesterday I was nervous on and off but I’ve woken from 7 restful hours refresed and happy. At peace. I’m going running in a while! 4 miles instead of my usual 3. Whee-freaking-hoo.

Katy: Music Maven! I love that – I’ll use it for a tagline sometime.

Weyrd1: My aim is for a show 2x a month. Maybe every week, but it might be a bit much with Kelly’s school-night schedule. I’ll see.

Jeanne: What a lovely-beautiful comment, thanks. THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!! Wow, you listened to every song snippet?? I’m honored to the max. And I think $10.00 is fine, buyer pays shipping. Shipping details to be posted tomorrow. Whee-freaking-hoo!! Wow, and a Tweet too – awesome- thanks!!

HI RHETT!! I’ve heard that a couple times before and recently I’m been compaared to Beetlegeuse and Sandra Dee. :)
