Pansy One
pansy, pansy in the ground
dancing in your velvet gown
here’s a poem to satisfy
all the poets passing by

Pansy Two
Diane broke the special pansy mug
I sent her back in my wildsummer days
of the Reliant Transportation System,
beach runnings and golden sealing wax.
I’ve never been able to find another
just like it and I feel I’ve failed her
(as I feel I’ve failed a few in my day.)
Have you seen a china one, embossed,
a mug as light as wedding cake and
shinier on the outside than seaglass?
Of so, please send c.o.d. with froths
of angels’ lashes and the salt o their
tears and I’ll mail you back my heart.

Pansy Three
I had no intention of writing pansy poems
or even of thinking about their little faces
today but my site stats show people are
hungry for pansy poems, as they are
hungry for world peace and the memory
of tea with grandmother’s lemon pie.
Wow, I’ll be a “Super” Semi-Somebody
with all these pansy seekers flooding in!

Pansy Four
Long-live pansies, Leonard Cohen’s daisies
and all twinkle shooters everywhere, waiting
with bouquets of freshly-cut kisses for me!

Hi Jannie – I loved these! Pansies are awesome – the biggest ones I ever saw were in Alaska. All that daylight to grow in. My ex’s grandma’s name was Ethel Pansy. How could she have preferred being called Ethel when E. Pansy was an option? I don’t know.

Lynn, ahh, a morning gift — how nice of you to word it like that. The first one felt kind Emily Dickinson-ish or somethign, wrote all 5 wihin 10 minutes at Whole Foods yesterday. And poor Diane in Brisbane, Australia and her broken mug, I just might have to write a song about that. Ya think?

Betsy; You Loved these? – get out! I don’t think they’re all that great. I mean they’ll pass I guess. Anyway, I’ll shut up on that. Were you in Alaska long? What was the actual diameter of the pansies there, within 2 millimetres, please? We had a school bus driver named Pansy.

Talon: Grouch Marx! So I guess you don’t have a lot of pansies in that ultra-gorgeous garden of yours?? And just wondering have you ever either planted or eaten rhubarb? Or ever run through a field of it on a summer’s night?

Momisodes: Yeah, my stats showed about 20 different searches for pansy poems in the past few months. So I thought I’d better op on the gettin-me-famouser-and-famouser band wagon ASAP! Might even write another 5 pansy poems just to seal the deal. I’m sure I’m good for 5 more in the not too distant future.

Vered: Yeah, that’s a more light-hearted one, isn’t it? Last time I made you cry with a poem, this time smile. Let’s see if I can get a chuckle out of you on my next poems, if not send you into uproarious fits of uncontrollable laughter.

J.D. In poetry one word can send you flying off farther and quicker than you could ever have pre-imagined possible, eh? I think poetry may really catch on some day, no money in it tho. Ah, but as the man said – there is no poetry in money either.

Received your CD. Loved it. Enjoyed Jim’s contribution, and Kelly’s of course. Pansy poems…hmmm, you might have something here; a whole new genre perhaps? On the CD there are some complex musical mixes. Did you accompany yourself on the harmonies, or is there another singer backing you up? I was playing the CD here at work, and a co-worker asked, ” Who is that, one of those American Idol winners who has put out a CD?”
I smiled and replied,”No, this is Jannie Funster, one of those America’s Sweetheart winners, who happens to have a wicked sense of humor, and a terrific set of pipes.” He did not get it, and is still shaking his head.

Remember that the fact you whipped out five poems in ten minutes while at the super market does not dampen our enthusiasm for the work, nor reduce the merit of it. I agree with the Funster who astutely pointed out that you open yourself up, share some very personal things with us through your poetry. Some feel that while writing a poem we truly achieve that detachment, that third voice, and one never knows what pay pierce the veil or pass through.

Tammy: You like that line because you yourself are a pansied poet wandering the great energies of love and garden fresh allure we call celestial freedom? (And what the heck, if anything, does that mean?) :)

Snag: I must continue my earthly quest for the mug. ‘Twas on a late March afternoon, 1995 at the coffeeshop then (and still,) named Trianon I didst chance upon said bone china vessel and hence to the wilds of Australian suburb posted said delicate charm of modern men and faeries’ making. Of course I knew about your pansy Mothers day gifting – I’ve a hidden cmera to your heart you know! :) No pansy poll, but I’m thinking of posting one soon on color choices for socks.

K: And a young man’s fancy be turned to all things of love too. Flowers, flowers, bees and trees, they iz the best of things I sees. And the smiles on little ones, and the wags dog’s tails have dones. :)

Shay: T’is with lit lilies and rainbowed roses I’d greet thee every morn on the mountains of Michigan mists. You do have a mountain there, right? Or a tall hill? Maybe some mound of note? A heap of grassy earth? :)

Robbi: A great literary work if ever there were one. (not.) :) Did You write it?

Sheila: Pensees. Guarding their secrets any hour of day or night. Unfathomable like the beautiful girl who walks the moors alone and paints her days in wind and moss. I asked Kelly last night what was going through her mind as I took that photo and she said “Moonbeams!” :)

Lynn: Do you buy her Friskies?? I like the mosaic idea, indeed. Maybe you’l post a pic of it? Our kitty does not seem to mind a chnage in his dinner dish, except for the time it was a champagne flute. (I told you I am not a fan of washing dishes, right?) :)

Dot: It was a lovely happpenstance how I fuzzed up those 4 pix from the one-same photography session in my car 3 years ago. Just used the “Cartoon,” effect on my Kodak program. Voila! And the photoshopiste gals did the rest. The one of my hand was such a fluke! As I was reaching back to take the camaera from Kelly she snapped that picture. (Did you notice my sunglassed eyes in the rear-view mirror on that one?) :)

Kimmi: Thanks! I just kind of “mass produced” those. Maybe pulled them off? :)

Glenn: Yes,my next 100 poems I write will have to have pansy mentioned at least once in each, that would be fun! Yes, me on the background harmony vocals too, my first foray into said vocal realm. Did I mention that whole CD effort was a TLE (Total Learning Experience) — best to get right in there and have a whirl at it, I supposed. Did you give the co-worker one of the cards, so he couldst experience the Jannie Experience for himself?? :) As long as you pay for the pierced veil things shall contine as preordained in lightness (Whatever that may mean.)

Talon: My first rhubarb running was at my tender age of 15, the night after Peg and Lester’s wedding. I was just telling Kelly this morning on the way to school that the 2 songs I sang at that wedding were “Until The Twelth Of Never” and “We’ve Only Just Begun.” I did not mention the rhubard running — I’ll let her discover that joy on her own one day. :) I am awfully fond of a slice of strawberry-rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream and a cup of tea after a rollicking Church Supper, especially a spring lobster one. I just love that little zest of home-made salad dressing atop both mounds of potato salad and the sprinkles of paprika keeping watch over all. How ’bout you?

Cathy: Thank you. Once in a long while my poems actually contain a little something poetic. How ’bout that?! :)

Liara: I had forgotten about the edible quality of pansies. So true. Peg and Lester had pansies on their wedding cake. And a horse drawn carriage. And such a lovely field of late August rhubarb to frolic through. :) And how wonderful about the dandelion leaves and the amount of iron, calcium, phosphorous and vitamins A and C in them. My backyard offers so much more than I’d realized! I will have to see what they taste like.

Yes – you know me too well. I will definitely want to post a picture of my mosaic after I get off my procrastinating behind and actually make it. Sophie eats Hill’s KD diet for cats with bad kidneys, which sometimes happens to cats of a certain age.

No – I did not know of the dishwashing phobia, but I have it, too! So many hours logged in washing dishes as a kid make me not even like unloading the dishwasher. LOL at the thought of your cat trying to eat out of a champagne flute!

Lynn: It will be cool to see your mosaic for sure! Have you done any before? Do you think your kitty will recognize the broken pieces, as if so what could be her reaction? I actually will probably finish a song I have started about hating to do the dishes!

Patricia: If ever I get my hands on one of those darling unique pansy mugs I might just have to keep it for myself. Please, please dont go looking for one, you’ve done more than enough already!!! Please. Cute observation about Kelly looking up at the poems, it does look that way, doesn’t it?

Chris: Fred has been a god-send lately, except of course, for his awol-ness the past few days. He’s taken over my shipping and receiving department here for CD sales, as well as getting his hands all sticky in my HTML goop and I overlook his occasional drinking because he’s such a genius as what he does.

One shade in particular, how would we describe it – kind of like lilac with moonbeams for eyes – that’s when I fell forever for those strong but fragile little lumps of luv. Now, what were you saying? Hey you got my FB message, right? Oh, and there was some stupid virus going today, I may have accidentally sent you that, sorry. Dummies. Or I should say, Smarties. But misguided, perhaps.

Diane C: Oh, how lovely to see you here, O Seaglass Lady. Just wonderfully awesome. I know we shall become good friends and you will love everyone here and they will love you and your skywatching too. I love the sky. Still can’t believe sometimes I’m alive here under it, it is all so mind-bending.
