Five Little Lightbulbs

Lightbulb 1: Grumble. Mumble. Woe is me for still having no place all my own in this perpetual house remodel. Then a brainwave hits and I commandeer one corner of the dining room for my funsterment correspondence haven. Yay!
Then, TWO brainwaves in one day (I had to have a lie-down later,) for better traffic flow, I take a couple leaves out of the dining table. We can always bring those and the extra chairs back when needed.

Btw, our dining room was a bland old bedroom we converted and opened to the kitchen. Jim did all the wood-working, tile etc. himself. You know my creative Jimmy! Yes, he even made the corner cabinet with his own two hands, he fashioned that scallop thing from a cast he made of an old one we bought in Maine.
This print I bought in Bermuda inspired the room’s theme.

And in case you’re wondering - no we don’t have any other pink rooms in our house! No pink decor at all elsewhere, except for Kelly’s room.
Lightbulb 2: I make a note to buy an attractive basket or box to hold supplies for my new treasure corner. Later I spy the perfect box on a book shelf – one I bought full of stationery 15 years ago.
Lightbulb 3: I yearn to upgrade to a better camera such as the Canon below. Imagine Jannie with a decent camera? Wicked!
As I wonder how to justify such a non-necessity, yet another miracle of brainwave seizes me. That gently-used stuff I’ve been meaning to sell on eBay — that’ll give me plenty of guilt-free cash for a new camera, and then some! Maybe enough to buy new sparkles for my kilt.
Lightbulb 4: How I can possibly stretch dinner for 3 into dinner for 5? (Hubby forgot to mention guests were coming.) But by adding more lettuce and croutons to the salad, cooking extra potatoes and slicing the salmon smaller, we have plenty - with some to spare. Plus, the guests brought cake and wine – my kind of guests!

(the gymnast at four. this photo enlarges.)
Lightbulb 5: Kelly informs me 5 minutes before we leave for VBS (Vacation Bible School) that it’s “Jersey Day” and she’s to wear a sports team shirt, which we don’t have. Then it dawns on me that the emblazoned gymnastics tee she got at camp last week could work. After all, gymnastics is an Olympic team sport, right?! She goes for the idea. (Whew, slid that one past her.)
Friends, it appears I already have what I think I need or want. How ’bout you? You lucky that way?

I’m with ya – I have all I need or want. I used to buy books all the time, but now tend to get them from the library (love to go there anyway.)
Nice corner all for you. I like it. And am in awe of Jim’s cabinetry skills.
Cute Kelly – good idea for the shirt. Happy Monday!

Hey Jannie,
I think that last picture pretty much sums it up…you’ve got it all, right there…
Me? Well…I’ve got my tiara (what was I thinking that day anyway…why couldn’t my camera have blurred the photo???), I’ve got my family (somehow, they put up with me), and I’ve that beat up old toaster that keeps on making the best toast in the world…
Yep…life is pretty swell here…

Jim does awesome work – the scallop detail on the corner cabinet is gorgeous (as is that magnificent conch on the shelf). Gotta love a man not only with an axe, but with superb carpentry skills.
Your corner of the world looks perfect.
Jannie, you are truly creative – it’s always a fabulous day when you can slide something past those crafty kids.

I love your space, so pretty and feminine! So I’m not the only one who dreams of making money on ol’Ebay huh? Just last night I was trying to sell my husband on the new juicer I wanted…”I could sell my foot spa on Ebay…and the juicer could be an anniversary present too! Pleeeease” I have yet to sell anything on Ebay
Let me know how your selling experience goes. BTW I got my juicer

Lance, this post reminded me a bit of your Old Hat, New Hat from last week. You already had the bicycle (and tiara!) you needed. And I probably already have the camera I need, but I bet 8.2 mega pixels will make an amazing difference from my current 3.2 one – who knows just what new heights I’ll reach?! Hey, how old is your toaster? Is it vintage? 50s maybe?
Mama Z: Thank you! I kinda like that room too, and at night with candles all a-glow its a very warm place, many a bottle of wine has been shared there. Yeah, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you about little girls and potential nail biter situations. I was prepared for a fit and when it didn’t come it Made My DAY. No – it made my month!
Talon: My Jimmy may not have a chainsaw but he more than makes up for it with all his other saws. The man can cut some miters — and whatever doesn’t quite fit, that’s what God invented caulking for! He’s gifted with wood like you are with your garden. Yes, I do like my little corner, tee-hee, the table was there before but kind of junked up with bills and odds and ends of bric-a-brac and such which I’ve relocated to another junked-up area – but I don’t have to look at it anymore! As we’ve remodeled and now of course are Remodeling The Original Remodel… it is nice to have a little place to keep me calm. Especially since Kelly has her own room and Jim has like — 3 places if you include his very own model railroad room and The Whole Garage. (Even our master bedroom is torn up, hee, hee.) You ever go through a total remodel, While Living In It?
Okay okay John, you caught me! Every other room here IS done up in either frisky salmon, dusty rose, peach delight, powder puff and / or coral contusion. I’m gonna have to get out the paint brush and get going with the buffs and light greys to post pix of the other places some day
Hey Aimee: I guess it did turn out pretty feminine, with all my favorite things there. I thought those large storage boxes (on the floor,) I got at the hobby store for just 5 bucks each were cute, the two bottom ones are full of old letters from my penpals, the top one filled with Gorgeous Stationery. And Jim and I are big fans of the pink-sanded Bermuda – I’ve only been there once but I was totally enchanted and will be so excited to take Kelly there one day. Ebay! We actually have been doing it for over 4 years now (have close to 700 stars – 100% Positive!) It’s been great for both buying and selling. I did actually make quite a bit of money with the Montessori materials I bought when I was out of my mind when Kelly was a tot and thought I might start up a little preschool for up to 6 kids here in our house. I was amazed what people would pay for that stuff, they must not have researched where to get it for less, as I did. Anyway… you just never know with eBay, some people make a business of it – buying trinkets at yard sales and such. I never went that route but I did well on selling a lot of Kelly’s baby clothes and toys too. (Sell in batches, I suggest.) Now it’s mostly used books I’m selling (some of Kelly’s too, she and I will split the $ 50-50 on those.) I have donated stuff to,o but since I’m serious about that camera, I’m on a mission. One eBay tip – see what you are considering to sell and then check out similar items that are already on auction, you can learn a LOT that way. Congrats on your juicer!! Is it brand-new or good-used?
Wade: hee, hee – wanting the wrong things. It can never end, if you want it to. Me- I could totally downsize 50% on everything. Hubby? He likes to upsize.
Now, I’m going to hit the Web – whee-hoo!

Hey Jannie
I love your dining room. It rocks!! That cabinet your husband made is awesome. Does he do carpentry as a hobby or as job as well?
I am somewhat of a decor freak myself. I would be quiet dangerous if I knew how to use a saw. But, what fun it would be. I watch these designer shows and get all sorts of ideas. Honestly, I would try those do it yourself things but it would be just my luck that I would saw my leg off or something. So when it comes down to a missing leg or a hutch, I stick to Broyhill.

Libraries. I love the slightly musty book smell. The friendliness of the library staff. When it is filled with children looking at books. Discovering a treasure to take home.
The one near my house is a favorite, but my all-time favorite is the Mary Vinson Memorial Library in Milledgeville, GA, where I worked part-time during high school. It was in a beautiful old building right in the middle of town. Wonderful staff. The windowsills were lined with African Violets. I can still see every inch of it in my mind. (They have moved the library to a new location now and the old building is now the Chamber of Commerce.)

Tammy: A Decor Freak – lol! I LOVE decor freaks. Jim used to remodel houses, did and sold his first one in 1975, I think. (Gee he was only 33 then, my little entrepreneur.) And since we’re going to be selling this fine abode whenest we pull up stakes and head back to The Motherland, I guess it will be for monetary gain, but he works on it in his spare time. I love designer shows too! I never used to miss a Trading Spaces. Kelly as a baby, would hear the theme music for that coming on and start dancing around the house. Geez, don’t be losing no legs or such with saws, Tammy. I always worry about Jim, so far so good. Tho last month he came to me and asked me to pull a nail out that had gone Clean Through his pinky from a mis-fire from the nail gun. Just glanced the bone. Would-a got the camera for a Great Blogging Moment,
but thought maybe he would NOT appreciate said gesture. Tammy, how would you describe your personal decorating style?
Hey, Vered: He almost never does that. And interestingly enough, those surprise guests who bought a car from him that evening are both in jail now. Seems they were on the lam for some fraud thing having to do with Walmart gift-cards. I’m serious! But man that wine and cake was good!!
Hey Chris: Can you believe that light fixture is PLASTIC?? Yep, Lowes — $69.00. You actually have to touch it to be able to tell. A Tiffany one would be what? Ten times as much?
Betsy, Betsy
in your bucket
so fine, I’m glad
you like that corner of mine.
Wait!! That was Friday’s post. Man, almost lost it and slipped into the Land Of Rhyme again. Yes, the dimmer makes all the diff. I blast it high for doing my paperwork at the table, and put it down everso low and invitingly fetching when the sun has sunk like a ship beneath that horizon of love and life. LOL on standing to look skinny. In a long gown, no less?
Oh hey, heard something on t.v that those who carry a few extra pounds actually live longer. So, Im hanging onto this 10 lbs of baby fat for dear life! Bring on the donuts! Bring on that beer!!! Extra grease on my fries – let’s give it a cheer!!!!!
Lynn: It’s funny, I went to the big public library for something last year. Got there just before 10:00, as it was about to open and I kid you not, there were about 30 “homeless” guys waiitng to go in. And when they did, they went straight to the bank of computers to Go Online!!! That has certainly changed the face of public libraries, or that library anyway. have you experience that too? You are right about the helpful staff. I so loved the Harriet Irving, the big library at college. So hushed and reverent did I feel upon darkening its doors. I loved the green reading lamps. Oh and the map room. Don’t get me started on The Map Room, it fills me with nothing but nostalgia for something and I’m not quite sure for what. Probably the autumn and the turning leaves. I actually had a part-time job there in my last 2 years, mosting sticking labels on spines, but I loved it!! African violets! Oh how beautiful. You know, they are one of the plants I have never been able to keep alive. Those and boston ferns, bougainvillea and geraniums. I’m very very good tho with pansies, impatiens, ficus and rubber trees – but who wouldn’t be, they are no brainers. Or are they? Maybe I’m just incredibly gifted with those?? Have you and plants your very good or very bad with?
Paige!! Yes, I did write a whole song the other day! Called “Sadder Than The Ocean.” Words and melody came together. And Girl – you know I gonna be a-gettin’ over to Paradise Mountain very soon! I never want to miss one of your wacky posts. God is one smart guy, I agree. He ought to Be King Of Everything in my book!
In fact, if I can make one person, just one person who does not believe there is a true loving god of light, believe there is, by something I say on this blog, janniefunster.com will have done its work.

I am here leaving comments on your blog and I am supposed to be studying for an English test that I am about to take in class in about 1 hr. from now. I have had it Jannie…I am going on a studying ban. I am tired already.
Question: Why is it when you know you have a test that EVERYTHING becomes more appealing to be engaging in such as:
1. Counting dust particles
2. daydreaming about becoming a Hardee’s fry cook because you are about to become a washed up college drop out for not studying.
3. Staring aimlessly into space hoping the study material will effortlessly leap into your brain.
4. Hoping that school will miraculously be canceled due to a snow storm (in june? hmm is that a conflict of interest?)
5. thinking to yourself, “This would be a good time to pull out the refrigerator and mop the floor.”
6. Meditating on Michael Jackson’s passing into the “great daycare in the sky” (what that totally irreverent?)
7. Intently wondering why Micheal Jackson felt the need to become a white woman with a nice nose. Was that irreverent?
8. thinking to myself, “I need to water the lawn” that would be a good thought except for the fact that I don’t really have one.
9. and to state the obvious, why do I feel the need to aimlessly babble on Jannie’s blog comments?
Your husband nailed his finger? Ouch.
My decorating style? Hmmmm I don’t really know how to define that. maybe I should post some photo’s.

Love your dining room – we made our dining room out of the old kitchen which was the hallway to the only bathroom and the old washing porch complete with boiler…only problem with the bathroom was the toilet was hanging into the basement and the only phone was located there…the bathroom was a hallway to the 2 bedrooms…You get the idea!
Now we are researching solar panels…On July 4th we moved into this 650 sq ft cabin in the orchard of the farmhouse next door….ah now 2800 sq. feet that need cleaning right now!
Always make do it adds to your creative juices…I think creativity is like love…the more you share the more you get in return…
there is a time when living in a remodel zone is definitely over….I am fairly sure I could not do it again.
Your creativity and love are just bursting out all over the Internet…you are amazing and wonder full
Thank you for being you.

My camera is at this very moment a Canon as have been the digital cameras I have owned since 1996,however, I would love an EOS but as I am not Annie what’s her name I cannot justify the expense. For the rest, then all that is well and good.

I don’t have an iPhone. I have a Treo Pro which is the Windows based phone. It was required for the finance biz because all of our new forms are in that format. The old phone was a Treo 700p that broke, so the insurance claim folks sent a Treo 755p (which I eventually sold). Both were Palm based phones. I’m not liking using Microsoft Outlook for my calendar, so I’m considering replacing my non-business cellphone with the Treo Pre which is a mash up of the iPhone and the better Palm based Treo’s. It’s a very SEXY phone…heh.

Jannie, I hate to admit it, but I’ve gone through living-through-it remodels twice. With this old house we’re doing one room at a time. Of course, the room at a time method also means that by the time we’re finished all the rooms we’re going to have to start the first room all over again and therefore we’ve effectively trapped ourselves into the Twilight Zone of Renovation. But I have to admit that when a room gets finished, I’m always raring to go on the next one.

Robbi: I’ve seen a glimpse into your house, looks pretty nice to me. And I’ve seen that camera I’m considering for as low as $500.00. USD. A do-able price methinks for one Jannie of somewhat thrifty nature. And of course you can get bells and whistles added later. I’m thinking of a slide whistle for mine. And a liberty bell. And Robbi — I think you’ve got it made in the shade over there! In Adelaide, not Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney. French & Spanish? Russina? German?
Sheila: TOTALLY! The table I’m using for a desk is one we got at a yardsale. Originally I had it in our foyer for mail, but we don’t really NEED a mail table. I totally agree about using something from another room — spark of imagination and you can transform what you already have into something even better! I do like my little space, even jsut to walk into that room and sense the peace and order gets me all warm and fuzzied.
Margaret! Hi, how wonderful you followed me back here from your blog. Thank you for not only doing so, but for leaving a comment. So great so see you here. And I still love your pansy teacup and teapot (and always will.) What a wonderful feast for the eyes (and taste buds,) it was to land on your site!
Weyrd1: I had never heard of a Treo phone. Then again, there are possibly 1 or 2 things on this planet I’ve not yet encountered. Believe it or not!!
My hubby and I are with AT&T, so I might look into the Treo, vis a vis iPhone. Of course iPhones can be had for a song now. tra-la-la-la-la-la!
Teahouse: Oh yes, I had forgotten that particular aspect of those gripper hose, a real pain in the, no not the @$$, but the thighs. Gosh, the stuff I used to do in fashion’s name. Falling down to your ankles – LOL! That would’ve been a real video moment.
Hey, Talon. Are you thinking this will be your “permanent” home? I have a suggestion! Fix it up, sell it and buy one in Mahone Bay, NS, so when we move back there you annd I can get together and sip green tea and munch dark chocolate and Jos Louis cakes all day long! And I’ll never make you eat spaghetti. But I might request that you show off your juggling skills to all my friends and family.
Robin: Yes, we kind of bonded with them and spent a couple more evenings with them, then they disappeared and Mike the Mecahnic said they’re in jail! Yep, a plastic light shade! I LIVE on mashed potatoes, and potatoes, in general. Nope,I go that pic off the Net, which reminds me I forgot to put the photo credit up. Yep, I’m a Dummy! I bought the book a couple months ago and so far have mostly just skimmed it, but I’d like to really study it, a must really, in my quest to Rule The Blogging World.
Snag: More time n money – yeah! That’s on my list too. Well, actually not really. I know I have all the time in the world. But you are are right, having a partner in crime you can trust is a great gift. Real pain being without closets, I’ve certainly been there on that one. Do you have a standing wardrobe / cabinet thingy? Those can be great.
Lynn: Yep, all my energy to grow something nice has gone into Kelly. I do put in a fe annuals but my shrubs and trees have all had to fend for themselves for almost 8 years now. In fact, she and I were looking through a box of old pictures 2 nights ago, causing her to moan and lament “Why can’t our backyard look like that again?!” Cause Mommy takes care of you. And blogs.
Hey Lisa of California Fame, where Keepin’ It Local is the name of the game… I likes me my little sanctuary too. I likes it a lot. All that’s missing is a nice teacup, preferably a pansy one, and a scone with jam and clotted cream. Whee-hoo. And you know what? I ate a chicken nugget and a glazed donut for brekkie today!

You can look at the Treo, but for your purposes, being a musician and all, I think an iPhone is probably best. But if you wait long enough AT&T will likely get the Treo Pre…and THAT’s a sexy phone…heh.

Your dining room is so beautiful — and your workspace just dreamy! Ha, I haven’t used the word “dreamy” in years, but here, it just fits, ya know?

Semi-lucidity does have its disadvantages, one of which is trying to come up with something to post without sounding dopy.
But here goes.
Ummmm……ummmm…..okay….hmmmm….incredibly nice work area. You should become an interior designer.

Kayrn! And as I recall one of your favorite songs was The Little White Duck. And as to 99, it was always bottles of beer on the wall, even as nursery song that’s what my mama sang me. And she used to sing that one about yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum. And What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor. (That probably explains a LOT.)
Weryd1: Great advice! You know I’ve never even had an iPod, so I obviously need all the help I can get with these gadgets. My aim is to be Internet-full everywhere under the sun. Now, what’s so sexy ’bout the Treo phone, if ‘n ya don’t mind me inquirin’?
Thomma Lynn: Thank you for your lovely comments! When I get my kick-ass camera it will be fun to see the difference in photo quality. Since lighting is everything, I can’t wait to see even dreamier pix for all you adoring and adorable peeps.
G: I always sound dopey! Welcome to the self-admitted dopey bunch. And you know, I did think for a while after I met Jim that I might like to be an interior designer, but going back to school for years did not appeal to me. Still, I get the same thrill and joy in just decorating for us.
Steve!! So great to see you again! Always great to see you. Thanks for the lovely compliment. I’ll have fun digging up old photos to post in the future. Whee-hooo. I loves me some bloggin’.
Hey Robin: Yes, there is a Robin AND a Robbi, both buddies here and both from Australia. I have a little joke with him becasue I thought he was in Melbourne too, but nope, he’s in Adelaide. And I so loved the picture of that vase of flowers you just posted, the lighting was just golden and, to use Thomma Lynn’s word –dreamy. Of course Frank’s halo was a good pic too, I imagine a halo comes in right handy bytimes.
Oh my background yes, I’ve settled on changing it up once a week now, Mondays is my day!
Dot: I have so much I don’t need either. Lately I’ve been going through a lot of stuff and culling, boy that feels great. And I certainly don’t buy new stuff, except necessities like running shoes, bras, donuts and beer.

At this stage in life, I am with family during a reunion my mom inspired before she fell ill. There is no place I would rather be than precisely where I am. To realize love is all I am and truly need transforms every moment. Regardless of how long anyone is given, it is possible to make the most of a given moment. Life is a heaveny symphony of miracles you create. You sense it in tears of joy, in watching someone you love walk a distance longer than they have in almost a year, in knowing time is limited, but in choosing to cherish what you are given. When you shift awareness to where you take nothing for granted, and you love unconditionally, then you experience heaven on earth.

If you’re willing to change to Sprint service or wait until the Treo Pre (NOT to be confused with the Treo Pro which I have for work and is not particularly sexy) is available with your current cell service, it might be quite the contender! It’s a mash up of the iPhone with all the touch features and YET it still has a physical QWERTY keyboard (ya know like your laptop’s keyboard) that slides out from the bottom to lengthen the phone on a bit of a curve (it doesn’t get wider like all the other phones that have slide out keyboards…okay this sounds a bit phallic now…heh). Sexy. And. Functional.

Hey Jannie
Why am I studying English?………..ya know, comp 1- essays and all. I had a test on grammar. I am still waiting for the results on that. So far, I have an A in that class and I am going to be shattered if I don’t maintain it.

Hey Weyrdie: I do need to check into my server plan, as I don’t know if AT&T is going to bust my figurative balls with changing the contract. I told you I lost my other cell, right? It was a dinky plain old cell, maybe 4 years old. So I figured it was a message from fairies to go modern. You’ve definitely given me some stuff to research. THANK YOU!!
Tammy: Wow, grammar. Pretty high falutin’ you are with all those no-doubt whos and whoms and objets of the verb To Be and objects of prepositions and dangling participles and all that kind of stuff?
Patricia: A Day Off to wave the olde maple leaf and drink massive beer? Heaven forbid my child should be in Kung Fu camp this week and I not use every minute of my available alone time to feed this blogging addiction! I did a quiz and am only 75% addicted, tho – so not bad at all. xoxo

Just thought I would let you know, I have a Canon 30D and it is an AMAZING camera! It’s the most money I have ever spent on any one thing in my entire life, and absolutely worth it. The one I bought was one that used to be on display in a store- never actually used but much cheaper than the original.
And I love your ways of creating more abundance in your life with just a little bit of rearranging and thinking. Beautiful.

Kate! How totally cool you followed me back here from your blog. Thanks and welcome!! I think you will like it here – nobody bites.
Within months I too should be the proud owner of a decent Canon, whee-hoo. And thanks for your lovely words, sometimes all we have to do is shift our consciousness and wondrous new ideas come flooding for ways to work with what we already have.
Whoo-hoo!!
