Favorite video from my CD release show

There are two noggins bobbing past the videocam near the first of this song, the second one belonging to my Jim. I hope you enjoy it. (The song and my better half’s fleeting head.)
Wow, it’s been exactly 2 months since I released my CD. Remember the illustrious May 10th date? Well, I think I’m psyched to really start promoting myself to radio stations, etc. Will y’all please be my life coaches as I venture yet again into Unknown Territory and face the fears of expanding my comfort zone? You will? Cool, thanks! I feel ‘way better now. I really do. You are The Absolute Total Best.

Hey Singin’ Lady,
You ARE awesome! I still wonder, though, if you have a secret little mini-computer built into that guitar (I can’t keep up with you…oh wait…I think I just passed you)(if that makes any sense…)
Two months – you’re doing so great Jannie – the world needs you (really, you bring so much fun into life – so go out there and bring in those radio stations…so you can spread your goodness to even more people!)

Hey Commentin’ Bud Lance: Okay, I’m going to totally try to understand how you passed me? Are you playing guitar while driving on the freeway again? Yes – I see you! I love to blog while driving. Oh, be careful — watch out for that… Uh oh. Oh, well, I’m sure you’ve got maximum insurance on the olde mini-van. As to the second part of your comment, gee shucks. I’ll be like Bob in “What About Bob”… baby steps, baby steps.
Thanks, Lynn! I thought we did pretty nicely on that song, just one little chord flub. Cant wait until Kalyani and Ryan are back from Chicago this week so we can make some smooth fun sounds again. Play down at Vaca Java, outside — so it’s freaking hot, but at least we’re in the shade. Will you hold my hand, Lynn? What a silly question – you’ve been holding my hand every step of the way so far. Thank you!
Talon: You too on holding my hand. Just the thought of my loving peeps spurs me on. (That and 12 beers before I start making those inquiries.) Just kidding, just kidding. I will drink no more than 11 beers for that.
Thanks, Talon. You know I’ll be leaning on you, as usual. And basking in the glory of your general life revelry.
Caity Lady! Well, don’t faint or anything but I actually am going to the P.O. in about an hour to mail your little thing as a best wishes gift on your marriage. (Did you know Miss Etiquette says you must always say Best Wishes to the bride. And Congratulations to the grooom, and never vice-versa? Because he snagged you, The Prize.) Was thinking today of your amazing singing voice and what a gift you share with the world.
Betsy: Darn, you beat me to commenting today. I was thinking about you on my way to the coffee shop earlier. I really was. Was thinking how I haven’t been over to your blog in a week – just shameful of me. Yes, just the thought of my friends being here for me brings me comfort and joy. Oh tidings of comfort and joy! You’ll help steady these wobbly new legs. Thanks.
Well, Hi, THE Jim Gaudet! A bit hearty welcome to you. I know I’ve seen your name around in the blogosphere too, maybe over at Blogging Without A Blog, or the blogs you cite above. And yes, I bet John will be around soon too – he comes here mostly for the bra-flinging.
Great to meet you and I’ll see you soon.
Friends, I’m actually Going Out Into The Real World today, swimming and possibly margariting later with Suzie & such. (Suzie’s the blonde head you see the back of in the audience in this video – wow, what a cooincidence.) Wish me well, as I’ll be away from the internets for maybe for SEVEN WHOLE HOURS.

Does this signify a resulting upward trend to the personal finances of your troupe, vis a vis sales etc.? Hey, Sweet Bella thanks. Moving up? An interesting term. I think at this stage moving just forward, however small I may perceive each step, is my goal.
Yes, lovely passing noggins there indeed! Oh, and palying guitar can be quite a challenge indeed, I suggest setting the timer for at least 20 minutes a day for practice — and you’ll be amaazed and surprised how you WILL advance. xo
J.D. Such wonderful words of inspiration and all so true. THANK YOU!! Yes, I’ ready and Suzie suggested last night just mailing CDs to radio stations, yes it’s such a little step but soemthing concrete to do. Maybe call first to check on poilicy or who to send them to exactly (the local stations, obviously!) Can’t really fly to CBC Toronto tomorrow. I did mail one CD to a music frined I have, the wife of the gentleman who plans all the programming here on our KUT station, an affilliate of NPR. I shall follow-up on Monday with a call to her. Yes, I WILL do that. Just dial the number and with any luck I’ll get a machine to leave a message on instead of The Real Person. That could be easier.
xo
Kayrn: Thank you. Due to the general “differentness” of my songs, I know the ones on my current CD are not the pop / mainstream type. It should not be hard to access the off-beat kind of listeners. (I hope.) Well, that’s a plan in and of itself that I had not even considered before typing it just now. Man, I think I can do this! xo
Weryd1: I think I actually could benefit from the psych part! And the wine, of course, in light but frequent doses. xo
Hey, Jan: I’ve got to check out your book! I like the “wonderful” part of promotion you menition, looking very forward to that aspect once I get rolling. And it won’t take much to get rolling. Cheerleaders? Oh yeah, you guys are THE BEST, as I mentioned. I’m massively verklempt at any given moment over all this blogging love. Oh, and the Brandi post was such a hoot!! xo
Jon: Gonna bust that old comfort zone all to heck again. Funny to think back on all thte things I’ve done thus far on my journey, things that terrified me at the time, such as presenting my songs at critique sessions, performance and singing lessons, the recording process, keeping at learning the guitar, getting together with other musicians. Even feeling “worthy” enough to distribute invites for the CD show. Man, how can I not keep going at this point?! THANK YOU for your inspiration. xo
Lynn: xoxooxoxoxoxxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Aimee: Thank you! I’m really grooving on performing this song live, now that I have the guitar down. And of course I love singing the long U “ooo” sound, which predominates in this chorus. Guitarwise, it’s mostly AMajor 7 and DMajor 7 in the verse, and of course I FREAKING LOVE the Major 7ths sound. Do you play them much on your guitar? xo
Patricia: YOU, of course, are directly responsible for where I am today and I forever thank you. xoxo
Robbi: Such a lovely comment, my favorite of yours ever, I do believe. Good energy flowing back and forth. Music is king. Well, after God, of course He’s the Main Thing, and by all reports shall remain so forever and a day. Yes, at our last gig, we did make $12.00 in tips which we all agreed shouldst go to Ryan for his foot rigging, which he boughts good-used at the Saslvation Army. xo
Thanks Sweet Snag. Yes in deed self-pimping is just a matter of the mind. A new consciouness. I’ll get it done, perhaps even with joy and a song in my heart. Well yes OF COURSE with joy and a song in my heart! Why did the Lone ranger just ride thru? I have no idea. Should I Google that??
xo
Hey Sheila: My mind is now open and raised – so that’s 90% of the “battle.” Attitude is all. How’s it going?? It’s going freaking great. Thanks! xo
Off to do the dishes now. Be well, sweet everybodies.

Renee: Wherever you are you’re always in my heart. “Held back by our own fears” is right. I remmeber Jerry Seinfeld saying he was so nervous all those first years. Jannie,
Where to start? I’m going to make a list. It’s in no particular order… just as it pops into my head.
1) There are DEFINITELY radio stations out there that will play your songs. Now, girl, get your ass-kicking skills in gear and go find them! They are there. So go kick ass! (HINT: You might wanna skip the bra-flinging for any in-person trips to radio stations as they likely won’t get the bra-flinging humor. Thus, your moment of Funsterment could backfire in a situation like that. Don’t worry. You can always do bra-flinging from the stage of your first world tour. By then, you’ll be able to pull it off with ease. For now, you may want to keep your penchant for flinging a bit more quiet. All in good time, my friend!!
2) Many famous people used to or still do get nervous. For example, I’ve seen Carly Simon interviewed about her severe anxiety (maybe stage fright would even be the right term). You’d never know it to watch her sing, huh?
3) I don’t think you need to get life coaching. I do think you are well-equipped to give it. So, feel the love of your cheerleaders but remember that you have what you need inside of YOU for moving forward. (Pssst… yes, you’ve got “it”. You’ve got the goods! Now you need to market yourself. That’s all).
4) You can stumble all you want like nobody’s business. No, you are not selfish for not using twitter much. I will say this, though… I have seen music promoted on twitter and I still think it would be an excellent way for you to market your work. (For heaven’s sakes, Tori’s marketed on twitter). Twitter is an amazing place to make connections. Plus it’s exploding in growth right now. So, if I were in your shoes, I’d be trying to make an effort to use twitter. I’ve seen where people take song snippets and send them out via twitter as a teaser. So, just remember that stepping out of your “comfort zone” may mean using twitter more than you normally would simply because it potentially could connect you with people who can help you obtain your objectives.
5) Finally, taking 9 hours offline was a damn gutsy move. I can’t believe you stepped away from the computer that long! JUST KIDDING! Good for you for implementing Funsterment and stepping away from the computer. You’re such a smart one!

Your audience is waiting in rapt attention. C’mon! Captive audience! What kind of a performer are you? Strike while the iron’s hot, girl. Kick some ass.
You said you wanted CD publicity. Well, DO use your God-given talents… however “unique” they might be!
As far as giving me your WOOD, please see my blog’s response to your wood commentaries.
Glad to hear that ass-kicking is in full effect. Don’t stop now!
#3… oh yeah, you’ve got the goods, baby!
CCCKK. Gasp. CCCKK. Oh sorry! That was me choking. I thought you asked me to me your “twitter coach”. Only there’s no such thing (despite the throngs out there on twitter who will tell you otherwise as they swear they can get you 16,000 new followers a day).
Seriously, I will be happy to “talk twitter” with you anytime. Just shoot me an email and tell me when you’d like to talk.
I suppose my 3rd place prize worldwide for a tweet contest this past May counts for something. Remember, I got it right about when you won some sort of carrot contest? We were comparing how world famous we are now that we’ve won prestigious online prizes? Haha.
Seriously, I can’t promise you I can deliver the “concrete plan” you’re looking for but I can help you with ideas and I can definitely help you get more comfortable with using twitter effectively. Depending on how much memory your computer has, TweetDeck might become as helpful to you as it has to me. It’s a different world on TweetDeck than it was on web twitter!
I can name 3 specific things if you want but it would be better if we can talk offline a bit because it’ll help me tailor things to what you need.
Here are 3 ideas though:
1) Assuming your computer can handle TweetDeck (which is a bit of a memory hog), download it for free off the Internet. If your computer cooperates, it’ll save your life.
2) Tweet about your CD like crazy! Mark your tweets “Please retweet” or “Pls RT” if that won’t fit. Make sure your online friends (especially readers of this very blog!) know that you very much want your tweets to be retweeted!!! The more RTs you get, the more exposure you get. Any tweet that refers ppl to your twitter acct, your CD ordering info, or your blog is helpful! Follow ppl you like on FollowFriday so they are more likely to follow you back, thus bringing you tons of new followers/more exposure (details in email).
3) Network with other musicians!! Trust me, once you start following like-minded people, you’ll have cool people coming out of the woodwork to follow you back! When you find ppl more experienced about marketing music, PICK THEIR BRAINS (!) and when you find people just learning the marketing part, like you, share what you find in your research w/them. They’ll then be likely to share their findings with you. A win-win situation.
OK. Best 3 that I can do. Beyond that, we’ll have to connect offline.
Wow! 9 hours. Must have been beyond brutal. Strong meds I take it? That had to be rough indeed. Glad you’re still with us… What if blog withdrawal had killed you?
Love ya too! The anticipation is eating me alive. I mean… truly… how do you expect me to handle the suspense? I’m beside myself…
