Whoops… And The Future Of Blogging

Rooftop Yodeling | Posted by Jannie on 24 July 2009 @ 7:09 AM 46 Comments

Totally forgot to tell you that I guest-posted over at Patricia’s Wisdom a couple days ago.  She’s off to Scotland on vacation, don’t you know, Patricia is.  Over there flinging her kilt to the wind.

And to tide you over in the image department, here’s a photo of me with an apparent wine glow when Kelly was 3.  I really miss that pink hoodie — Kelly’s second bunny, a.k.a. Loveable Fluff Of Terror, munched it full of holes.  You ever have a rabbit in the house as a pet?  What a hoot that was.

And a Deep Question…  Where do you see your future in blogging and / or the future of blogging in general?

    Hey Pinkie,

You know…like my little finger, the one just past the ring finger – the pinkie…always there (just like you!).

Deep question Friday: I don’t see blogging going away anytime soon. Bloggers will come and bloggers will go. I hope to be around for a while. Maybe this is a springboard for something else. Maybe it’s a complement to what the future might hold. For now, it’s my way to connect more deeply with myself… And at the same time, connect with some very amazing people (like you, Ms. Pinkie!)

I will keep blogging while there are good things happening! :) Blogging has changed the world, it seems. Sites like Blogger make it so easy with the templates they provide. It seems to have exploded – I don’t see that slowing down any.

Nice pic, Ms. Fun Pink Kangaroo Mama!

I saw you over there, and wondered at first why Patricia was saying she was so young. :-) It’s funny, you’ve hit on a deep question that I’ve been thinking about lately. I’ve achieved my original goal in blogging, which was to write and see whether it reached people, and if so, how many. So now there’s somewhat less attraction in it for me. The future of blogging? I think the big, professional blogs will gain more and more power, as will newspapers written as blogs, or gossip rages like Drudge, but there will still be small blogs written for niche interests or niche audiences.

I see my future in blogging being published with more Video format. I’ve got a whole little setup in my office now with a camera always pointing at me (luckily not always on).

I’ve been thinking of doing a funny/informative video tutorial right after I wake up in the morning (hair messed up, first cup of coffee, etc.). Not sure how well it would go over, though.

I don’t know about my personal blogging future. I love it when I have the time and I fret and have angst about it when I don’t. [I've been feeling for the past month!] My blog is a creative outlet, not a money maker, so it’s difficult.

Not sure about the entire future of blogging… What do you think?

Hey, Lancinator…. I see I beat you to the punch over there at Barbara’s today!!! I strongly recommend having your child wake you from wonderful slumber with growing pains around 4:30 a.m. and after you massage her aching ankles and she is fast asleep again, you’ll be wide awake to beat me to the punch at Barbara’s. Oh, and you know what, once Mardi Funster and I went to an open mike and I had a on brand-new 2-piece hot pink running suit and I signed myself in as Pinkie LaRue. And sang “I Need A Man.” Can you imagine ME doing something nutty like that?? Never! Must’ve been one of my rare wild moments in life. :) Yep, I think blogging’s here to stay too and it’s interesting as it’s really only been popular for what 5? 7? years? A mere infancy. Tres cool to be on the olde bloggin’ train to see where it’s going.

Hey My Lynn: Well, I guess you’ll be blogging forever because I know there will always be Good Things Happening and your loving eyes and heart to capture them. Yeah, a real blogging explosion for sure. I think I read a few months back that there are like 200,000 new blogs a month, or something. Most abandoned eventually. But the opportunities for expression and sharing are limitless. I wish I could just hop in an RV with Jim and Kelly and travel across the land visiting all my buds, that’s how deep my affections for you all run. Thanks on the pic, it had red-eye but I think I got it out kind of acceptably?

Hey Dot: And I’d so glad you’ve reached me, and others with your blog. It’s cool, eh? Now that there’s less attraction in it, does that mean you might eventually give it up? I sure hope not. Something in me can’t see you doing that tho, as you seem a natural writer, like so many of us here, with thoughts and feelings we need to put down on “paper.” And it’s interesting what you say about “gossi” sites, I’ve been toying with a post idea about those, but I’m just not sure yet exactly what I’ve got to say or ask about those. But I’ll get it sorted out! I’m thinking of starting a bra flinging niche. Think that’ll catch on?

Wade: Hey, who’s the fanciful nut here?? Ah, but there’s always plenty of room for as many nuts as the traffic will allow. And sorry I’ve not yet read your no-doubt latest wry and deep posts – my currently summercamp-less child is taking up a lot of my blogging time. :) But next week – next week she’ll be in Mad Science Camp. YES!!!!!

Okay, kids, gonna take a little break and I’ll expand, and expound in THIS Very Comment (’cause I can do Wordpress magic like that,) later. And “later” could mean sometime in the next 24 to 24.78 hours. Okay?

Yes, the marsupial look is very pink and very becoming. It amazes us the sheer volume of Kelly photos and Funster photos that show up on this site; and we love all them!

Now Lance his his pinkie on the pulse of the answer RE the future of Blogging, with a big “B”. Actually I had some friends who used to call me Big B, but that’s another story. Did I ever tell you that when I was a professional actor, I used to use the name, SLASH PHUQUE? Yup, that was me, Slasherman. Anyway, as you can tell from my site, I love the idea of collaborative efforts, whereby you find a group of bloggers, in my case it is poets, writers, and malcontents, whose work, whose perspective, and philosophy appeals to me. I got hooked on the collaboration mode with Rick Mobbs over on his site, MY ENEMY GROWS OLDER. He is a terrific poet and artist. He would post a painting, and a bunch of us would write a poem or short story that was inspired by the artwork. He cataloged it all in a storybook. And now, of course, you have one of the most successful of collaborative efforts RIGHT HERE IN FUNSTERLAND!!!!
Poets Bobby Byrd, Cortney Bledsoe, and Jerome Rothenberg, and many others subscribe to the notion that art, poetry, is to share; and that the blogosphere is the perfect medium for such progress and promulgation.
You have visited my site, and you realize that I get serious about sharing. It is just that very few sites give us Kelly growing up, Jannie’s bra flinging, Jim’s singing career, and copious amounts of cheer and humor to sprinkle on our often dismal days. Keep after it, Miss Jannie. We Funsters demand it!

Maybe I just need a holiday.

I think blogging and other forms of social networking will be around for a long time. People love to express themselves. Through blogging, they also get to personalize a little corner of the web. I’m sure it will change form every few years, but that just gives us ammo, so in 10 years we can reminisce about “the good ol’days” and “remember when…”

As for my blog…well I just changed it up a bit. I exported Words to a new format, and I’m excited about blogging at my new address. I hope to personalize it a bit more and delve into some deeper water.
    How about you?

P.S I’m a big fan of the wine glow. Ever tried blogging while glowing? :)

    Pink Jannie’s back, yo!

Tess: Yes, I know Lance is constantly stirring up trouble for me at many sites. :) You crack me up, Girl. And I see you in blogging for a very long haul. I hope so anyway. And you know I’ll be commenting!

John: I think little video blurbs really keep things hopping. I’d like to have a set-up at the ready too, to hopefully capture something worthy. Your idea of the first moment of the morning, touseled-hair would probalby work gang-busters – people love silliness and love seeing that we’re all basically the same and it’s always great to see the mask come off.

Hey Weyrd1: The things we do for our kids. I’m cat allergic but finding Kit-Kat not too bad, he’s relatively short-haired. I’ll no-doubt post more on the 2 rabbits some day. It was quite the “adventure.”

Hey Caity, we kept the hutch under my big desk and let them roam quite a bit, as Texas is generally either too hot or too cold to keep bunnies outdoors. They were sweet, especially the first one but sadly, he went missing.

Thanks, Chris: The picture was taken at our friends’ house shortly after hot-tubbing in winter. Kelly couldn’t get warm afterwards. As to the future of blogging, your writing is very creative, sensitive and always humorous. I love your blog. I know a bit of blogging anxiety myself, I feel it when I don’t have the time I wish I did to get around to my buddies’ blogs.

Paige: Thanks. What was the last thing I made blue? What was the last thing I made blue? My tongue yesterday when i had a blue-raspberry snowcone! How ’bout you? Glad you’ll be “staying a little while longer” in the blogoshere. You’re a shining star of a nut-bobbin. I just coined nut-bobbin. Does it feel like you?

Talon: Thanks. My blogging ebbs and flows. Just this a.m. when I was still awake from Kelly getting me up, I was thinking what I could post about. I’ve got 77 drafts, but nothing seemed quite done. Then I remembered about the post at Patricia’s and pulled up this photo and there I was – saved! It’s a balancing act.

Kathy: And interesting, I wonder what WILL be next, as you know there is always somethign coming down the pike. Now that I’m learning more about blogging and Stumbling Upon some great great blogging info blogs, I’m keeping my eyes and ears out for new trends. Oh, and Kathy, you can fling your kilt even in the privacy of your own backyard! Or living room. Anywhere, really. Shopping malls and the halls of government buildings can be especially fun for that too. :)

Jim Gaudet: I like the idea of transparency, can only be a helpful thing. And connection, of course. And engagement – like marriage proposals, that kind of engagements? ;) Being silly of course about that, but I’ll certainly be sticking around to see what happens. And hope you will be too!

Hey Lane: You and Wade were both on the ball with this one! But I expect nothing less. You nut.

Glenn: I love how my background matches the pinkish hue of your face too! You notice too? You must be a “winter” are you? Do you look absolutely stunnign in black, white, royal blue, royal purple and palest grey? I’m a “summer!” I had my colors done when I was about 20. Anyhoo, no bunny stew here. And loving the idea of sharing and collaboration. Share! Life is short. Love, and give and spread the joy – you get that. That’s cool.

Lynn: I think my eyes came out better than Kelly’s but flash photos can be a pain sometimes. I plan on clearing out the car doors and chickens’ cages from one semi-okay living area, one place not currently being remodeled, and set up a lovely photo area. I love natural lights for pix, of course.

Hey Mike, your comment makes me think that blogging will probably get more and more competitive for traffic as more bloggers enter the sphere. Or maybe not. Maybe with more bloggers traffic will get spread around proportionately. I dunno. I’m pretty-much a newbie here on the block, but I’m keeping my eyes open. For me this is a way to really get creative and have fun.

Hey, Davina: It is easy to get distracted by blogging. My goodness, a 2-minute stop can see me 45 minutes later still not even getting to where I thought I was going. Yes, there is no way a human could ever keep up with blogs, as ther are just so so many wonderful ones. As my blog grows, I wonder how I will keep up with everything but will have to cross that bridge when I come to it, having faith that love will lead my way. Oh, and Davina, if you take a holiday, let me know when you’re back and I’ll be there, okay?

Hi Aimee: Ooo, yes, I can relate to my own little docorated corner of the web, a nice little spot personalize – neat way to put things. Oh, I did take a peek at your updated blog a little while ago, then Kelly called me away, but I’ll be back, of course. I think it’s great when we know it’s time for a change for us, or perhaps the next step in our path of expression. It can be so freeing for an update in look or in our attitude, as new layers of ourselves are revealed. Oh, and wine glow, I often read and comment on your guys’ blogs with a nice little glow, yes. ;)

    And there you go!

Let me post this and then read it to see all my typos.

Hi, Jannie! What a gorgeous picture of you and Kelly. And laughing at “Lovable Fluff of Terror.” I’ve never had a bunny as a pet, but I have an online friend who does: Bunnygirl, whose blog can be reached in the Writers and Friends part of my blog (Diary of a Slow Triathlete).

I had a roommate in college who also had a bunny, and she wasn’t such a great bunny mom. She didn’t look after what her bunny was up to, and she (the bunny, not my roommate) chewed my electrical cords. Only my cords and not my roommates. Interesting! ;)

Blogging? I think people will keep blogging, though more and more people are Tweeting and Facebooking, etc. Blogging offers a more leisurely way to connect and share our thoughts than 140 character snippets or the intense networkiness (like that word?) of Facebook. I’ve been blogging for three years now; hard to believe! I don’t blog as regularly as I used to when I started, but I’m hanging in there with it.

And hehe, I like the pink hoodie!

Hey, Snag. It’s funny, Kelly went through a late-todder period, 4 up to 5 years old where she was not too keen on hugs but she’s all about them again. First thing every morning she comes and snuggles with me. Hope it’ll always be that way. Sorry ’bout Hans. I tried having 3 rooms where bunny could wander freely a lot of the day, but everything (yes, even the stuff that was tied down, like wallpaper,) got munched. I so wished I’d switched to my Wordpress blog a lot earler than I did. Oh well, just glad I did.

Heather: Yes, I can get a little red sometimes on red wine. Weird. I have really started to research a lot more on how to improve my blogging, ProBlogger’s archivdes are simply stunning. There is soooooooo much to learn, but one step at a time is how I’ll do it. (Again, I’m so, so , so glad to see you back again. I missed you a lot. And you know I’m not just saying that!)

Hey again, Paul: Yeah, I now what you mean about the media blogs. A ton of propaganda out there. I think the ones that’ll last will offer value and / or entertain and / or form friendships.

Thomma Lyn: Thanks, I kinda liek that pic too. :) Bunnies really shouldn’t be caged as much as most people assume they need to be. What did our second bunny NOT munch? It was a nightmare. And she would jump up and pee on the bed. PEE ON THE BED!!!! MY BED!!!! Luckily, we gave her to a good home of a bunny lover. Not that I did I NOT love the bunny,I cried a river when the lady came to take her. But most people do not know how to properly care for rabbits. Anyway, I’m going to blog like a fiend and give Twitter a fiendish whirl too.

Jessica, I agree, very astute, i never would’ve have thought of that, but i agree

Vered: that’s a bit depressing, i likes me some blogging.

Chris, that’s very kind but the road to blogging stardom is a long uphill one, i think. but… one i would like to meander

I wish I knew what my future in blogging is. I don’t seem to have the time to run out and get a horde of readers. I wish. But, it has given me a ton of practice in writing and I hope to be published one day….one day.

    Jannie,
I just truly wanted you to know – I could not afford to purchase a kilt or the fabric…just got a great MacKwen long scarf…but
    and this was thrilling
Went to a show in Edinburgh with highland dancing and Robert Burns tribute and the 3 tenors sang a very funny, old song about what men wear under their kilts…and they flipped their kilts at the end of the song very discreetly – except where I was sitting I had a stunning view for the whole song, and for all the serious numbers too….since my Father wore his kilt on special occasions it was not a surprise!
The Canadian and Australian gals at my table were so embarrassed!
Kilt flipping…not so neat! but funny

Patricia! SOOOOOO great to see you back again. Glad you’re back safe and sound!

They say it’s all in the tilt of the kilt. :)

    Heading to the airport now.
