Sunday Thought: Laughter Is Good

Just Good Stuff | Posted by Jannie on 4 October 2009 @ 12:07 PM 55 Comments

this blogger’s daughter at age 3

Okay, if that Lance character can do a Sunday Thought For The Day I can copy such genius, right?

Here’s MY amazingly original thought for the day:  Laughter is good.

Yep, that’ll totally guarantee my place in the quote books!

Thank God (literally) for laughter ’cause I was a bit blue recently over a couple of things, one of which has actually ended up as a super-excellent Learning Experience in the recording studio.  And the other a reminder that by putting my song videos out in cyberspace I open myself up to all kinds of opinions and comments, but ones which can only hurt my feelings if I let them.

Wanna know how I kicked my blues?!   I Can Has Cheeseburger where I hadn’t been in a while, to laff and laff and laff at all those lolcats and Looks-Likes.  My blueness not only lifted, but my buttock-kickingness surged forth and I faced my fears and made all those calls I needed to for the school fund-raiser.  (I’ve taken on a lot again this fall.)  But I’m fine now.  Fine, I tell you! FINE!!! It’s all in the mindset.  Nothing but smooth sailing ahead, whoo-hoo.

That’s all I had to do — laff and laff and my cares melted away like magic.  That ever happen to you, laughter just melting your blues away?

I do believe laughter is programmed into our hearts and souls to heal us.  Katie West with her Levity Project is definitely onto something I want to stay part of.

And now, friends and neighbors…

More “I Can has Cheeseburger?” lolcats for you.  Hmmn, wonder why these next two appeal to me so?  :)

I like this one below too, surprisingly non-directly-beer-related.

(Cold beer can be awful good with a burger, tho.)    :)

btw, if you haven’t yet read Lance’s current Sunday Thought For The Day, I strongly suggest you go over and not only read it, but eat, drink, sleep and breathe it.  I know I will!

    Hi Jannie,

Laughter is definitely good…it is awesome! And your post always brings a smile to my face and helps me laugh.

A life without laughter would not be fun at all.

And the pictures were adorable. Thank you for being you! :)

It makes sense, you know? I think we find it hard to do things because we get so wound up worrying that we won’t do them well, that other people will find our efforts ridiculous. Laughing unwinds us. So what if we don’t get it perfect on the first try? Who told us we had to take things so seriously?

Jannie, I love your perspective on life, you know that. But what I love more is how you know what works for you, nourishes or uplifts you. You provide a great model for us to follow. And laughter is great! When I need a lift, I always come here for a little boost. :-)

And I totally get what it is like to receive those “Boo’s” over your released work. When I read a handful of bashing reviews on amazon about my book when it came out, I wanted to hide out forever. They cut me to the core, but we do have to learn to rise above the criticism of others and prevail–do what we know we do best and share it with the world with no apologies. Lead with what we love…. Hugs all around.

Laugh and refuse to take anything personally. We can’t please everyone you know. And who wants to anyway. Isn’t that called codependent?

I love to laugh and laugh loud so here’s to laughing with you Funster. Kelly is so cute at any age.

    Pure genius…YOU!

“Laughter is good” – so simple, and so true! And you know how easy it can be to forget that. Like those times, which you mentioned, when we’re feeling a little bit blue – to get wrapped up in that. Or. Or we can lighten our load a little bit – and laughter is such a great way to do that! Like those cats! I’m particularly fond of that cow cat…although I’m not so sure the cat is! And kid’s laughter – so genuine – like laughing Kelly!

    Jannie…you make me smile…always…

(and I’m honored by your mention here…thank YOU!!)

I must agree that laughter is good. Laughter is something that I feel is just as important as any medication or anything else we have in our daily lives and routines. I’m glad that you took the time to tell us this because unfortunately we can sometimes forget and that is bad!!

Nadia: As I felt myself beginning to laugh waves of great feelings emanated from my belly up. I think we probably would not even exist without laughter. Or music.

Lynn: Well, you probably realize that my life is not 100% sunshine and roses 24/7 but I try to make it that way as much as I can. :)

Cinderkeys: Amen on getting focussed on getting it right the first time. With making the fund-raiser calls I had to once I put a smile in my heart it was really not only easy — but quite enjoyable to do what I had to do. Delegate, that’s the key!

Thanks Jan: The more my life progresses I do try to keep in mind the blues are just a way of getting me to an even better plaace. And remind me not to have an disappointments befall me, no matter how small when I’m P.M.S.ing, okay?? :)

Tess: This is true– who would want total approbation? That would be pretty boring. Here’s laffing with you too! Loudly!!

Lance: Next time I’m blue I think I’m totally going to try starting with 5 minutes of laughing out loud. I just now did a loud streal of laffs and it and Kelly called out “What?!??” And gee, I do feel better Gotta try that for 15 minutes, Levity-style. And Lance, the honor is all mine!

Caity: I love YOUR blog too. You write the book on authenticity over there and are often a role model for me. Yes, I guess they do not say “The Best Medicine” for nothing, you got that right!

Lisa: How funny – I was totally thinking of you today and wondering what’s up in your realm. But you beat me to the blog punch again! Hey, going hiking at the 360 / Mopac Greenbelt in a while!

Sheila: Do you find yourself breaking into uncontrollable laffs during yoga??

GREAT swing photo. I love how the simple things make kids smile. Like running. Why do kids smile when they run? Why don’t I smile with I run??

And those cat pics never get old. Always good for a laugh.

When my cousin and I were growing up (ok fine, we still do it….) we played the “laughing game” where we would start fake laughing hysterically and before you know it it turns into true laughter. ;)

PS Thank you so much for wishing my little cousin a happy birthday!

Jannie, I adore the photo of your little sweetie girl in the swing! She has one of the most beautiful, joyous smiles I have ever seen. No wonder, with you for her mom!

And I’m sorry you ran into some “ouch.” I’m glad to hear you got your buttock-kickingness (love that phrase) back. You’re right, when we, as artists, put our work out there, we’ll inevitably, at some point, run into opinions that make us say YEE-OUCH! And you’re right that laughter is the best medicine, right along with love and friendship and keeping up our moxie and our confidence — aw heck, you said it best, my friend: our “buttock-kickingness.”

(((((((((((huge hugs)))))))))), you mega-talented fantabulous inspiring joy-filled lady, you! And I love the kitty pics, all of ‘em — I think my favorite one is the little white kitty who thinks she’s hiding by covering her eyes.

I, for one, demand to see blue bunny in a cow suit. That would make my day. It was like those great school annual makeovers for Jannie, Kelly, Jim, and yes, even blue bunny. Can you be more specific about what sort of cretin decided to provide you with negative feedback for any part your boffo CD? Sour pusses are out there, just
pay no attention to them, like a angry barking of a junk yard dog; ignore them and they just stop. Laughter, yes, it is and always will be the best medicine. Kelly seems
surrounded with a loving presence and a smile that would
melt the lens on a Gerber camera; that is of course when she isn’t flipping lip. The cat photos are terrific! My favorite is the white kitty with the lite beer at the fridge. I felt kind of light hearted coming into the office today, and could not figure out why. Then I read your blog and realized that you always take the Blue out of Mondays. Thank you, bless you, and keep after it; the blue meanies are lurking in Funsterland. Where are the Beatles when you need them?

Laughter is amazing. I’ve seen arguments completely defuse just because one person starts laughing at how ridiculous it is for them both to take themselves so seriously. I’ve gotten out of light depressions by laughing — I have a bunch of videos of comedians to watch. Paula Poundstone is my favorite.

Ah, back! I sent Blue Bunny out for karrits. And mor beers.

Hi Yaya: Your little cousin is soooo cute! How fun to start blogging so young. Gee, if I’d had a blog since I was 1 that would be 30 years! Imagine the tales I’d have told by now.

Thomma Lyn: How sweet it is to be blogged by you! I am especially happy about moving forward with my fund-raising duties. The last 2 years I’ve been in charge of the haunted house but this year I passed the torch forward on that and am chairing the food. yummy-yummy. It will be nice to be out of the dark too for once. Thanks for your more than lovely and loving extra-super supportive words, Thomma Lynn. Yeah, and isn’t that little white kitteh the sweetest?!

Megan JoyGirl: Yes, a real Hallmark phrase. That and fun is good are right up there. But which one, which lolcat had you laughing for so long and still makes you laugh when you think of it?? I MUST know!

Liara: I believe that loves is the answer, the only answer there is and will ever be, the one guiding light that shines in and from all things.

Vered: Nah, not to seriously do I take me, you are probably right. I wonder why I am like this, something in born or developed? Hmmn, a mystery. Must be the chocolate talking.

Jeanne: Yes, the GUT! Exactly! That’s where it comes from, laughter. I do have this snipppet of a song that goes, “My cat only loves me when he’s hungry — He never comes around unless his tummy’s empty…” Whaddya think? Should I expound on it?

Chris: Blue Bunny (You know — my “bloing manijir”?) he learned to spell over at I Can Has! I, on the other hand learned from the Jellicle Cats on more than one midnight when the moon had lost her mem’ry.

Hi Grace! Aren’t you excited you get the default Blue Bunny gravatar here? Thanks for popping by, it’ great to meet you. Did I find you or did you find me — I do so much blog hopping I forget where I’ve been sometimes. Do you like to laff and laff and laff??

Glenn: I will e-mail you on the specifics of the comment woes. Hey, the lolcat pic you cite seems to be the favrit amongst my funster visitors! And were you already familiar with the I Can Has Cheszeburger site before I brought it to your attention?

Dot: Paula Poundstone is one of my favorites too! To her one of the 4-food groups is “Hostess,” I remember her saying that. And following her dream of working at IHOP!

Steppinout: I admit I was a dog person forever and never considered a cat until my daughter got a kitten a couple years ago. LOVE that cat!!! And you will too, I guarantee. Get one wee to bond early.

Talon: I am joyous with happiment from your visits here. You lift me up so high that I can see the mountain tops. You bring rain to my deserts and sunshine to my valleys. You are the cream in my coffee and the lemon in my zest. The hat on my head in the summer.

K: I hope you laugh laugh and laugh daily? Something tells me that with your sense of humor on your blog you are never much of a stranger to the outward expression of joy.

Heather: Which one? Which one in particular you mention? Kitty holding beer ransom? Do you ever look at the Look-Alikes over there? They can really crack me up! People have such imaginations.

Wordwire: That’s such a great idea!! Feeling a little blue? Just pop that puppy in and let the good times roll. Would it be of celebrities laughing on the CD or people you personally know?

When one has found something that brings them joy, in your case music amongst many other things, and you choose to share it, there will be those sour puss “dream crushers” who are smart ass, negative ion types, who just can’t stand it unless they can share their tiny rain cloud always hovering over their head. It is like the Joni Mitchell song, “Strong and Wrong”. Fuggitaboutit. The “real” Funsters will be here outnumbering the nay-sayers 50 to one. I, for one, cannot wait until Friday when Ms. Jannie Banannie and blue bunny unveil the next Big Thing here in Funsterville.

    Hi Jannie,

Laughter and smiles melt aways stress. The beauty of laughther is that we can decide to laugh whenever we want to. The biggest barrier for me has been to decide what is “serious” and what is not. And of course, nothing is really all that serious. And even in supposedly grave situtions, laughter always wins. I’ve had a few of these recently and when I let go and laughed everything instantly became OK, and I eventually took the positive out of the negative.

My sister turned me on to “I Has.” Luv the pic of the Cow-Cat.

Waking Ned Divine!!!! Did you know that is one of my absolute favorite movies EVER?!??! My hubby and I are due for another viewing.

Jordache: Anyone tell you you are a dead ringer for Miss Christina who used to pop in here?? :) Well, this post may not have been a gut-buster in itself but in general my mind seems to veer towards strange and sometimes humorous things.

Deere Snag: Yes, my jannies kitteh tried to milk me to make some ice kreems for his birthday partie, but i runned reele fast away.

Alors, Robbi, votre francais est un peu plus admirable qu vous avez avoue, non? Quel homme de milles talents. Quel voyageur de, de, de… merde – c’est quoi – le mot pour Time Zone? Disons, “le Time Zone.” I will not be posting again until Monday )(probably) alors vous allez pas manquer le grand fete!

Momisodes (as I now slip back into my English mode…) thanks. Lovin’ those lolcats. Too bad they can’t post at least 10 new ones a day.

JO: MY JO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhh, how I miss you. and am so glad to see you here, my extreme dear.I wish you would start a blog, Woman! You may not have been able to get in touch with me anyway from NY — I’ve lost my call phone and Jim forwards our house phone to his during the day. Talk to you soon!! xoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxo

Jeanne: I might take you up on your considerable Ass-Kicking skills. And since you trained in the New York school of buttock busting, I know there is no finer ass kicking to be found. So, let’s go!! :)

    Thanks.

I laughed today, Jannie…it felt good. In fact, it felt really good! In fact (#2), it’s so good, I’m rolling around on the ground right now. Can you believe I can still type while doing that. I know…I’m good that way…

Like good ol’ Ferris Bueller once said – “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

How can one be happy without a good laugh here and there throughout the day?
