One Blogging Buddy Down, 758 To Go

Friends | Posted by Jannie on 29 October 2009 @ 6:33 AM 55 Comments

Mystery_Enchanted_Rock_Blogger

Guess what happened to me Sunday?!?   I  met a blogging buddy!  Yes, my first ever “In Real Life” blogging buddy meeting.

Whoo-Hoo!!!

And a darn fine specimen of a blogging buddy she is, Miss Paige of the Paradise Mountain To Hell’s Valley blog.

Enchanted_Shy

Isn’t she beautiful?

Hey, anyone who’s seen Paige knows she’s beautiful outside and in, but due to her spy status she must remain incognito on the interwebs.

Blogging_family

And where did our families meet  Sunday?   At Texas’ own Enchanted Rock State Natural Area!   Second biggest rock on the planet, some say.  (Ayer’s being first, I guess.)

Second_Biggest_Rock_In_The_World

Enchanted Rock:  640 acres of solid granite to wander, 425 feet to the summit.

Enchanted_Kelly_dad

Was pretty windy up top, maybe 60 mph breezes.  Blew another of Kelly’s baby teeth plumb out.

Enchanted_Rock_Windy

Well, my blogging friend,  how ’bout YOU??  Have you met any blogging buddies IRL??  And if so, what was it like?

Where did you meet?

Are you closer friends for having met, as Paige and I are?

If you haven’t met any blogging buds, do you plan to?

And when in heck are you planning on meeting ME???   I’m eagerly waiting.   And so is Enchanted Rock.

Enchanted_Rock_Summit_Sign

Or if in Austin, how ’bout Oyster Landing now that the weather’s finally cooler.  The coffee’s on me!

Clicked on over to Paige’s blog; neat. What a treat to see your pics and her pics, have your perspective and hers, with Kelly right in the middle. Lane Savant, aka Doug Palmer, is an old, very old, high school buddy that I lost touch with for many years, and it was blogging that got us back in touch with each other. He helped me set up my blog site; and the rest is history. Blog buddies are kind of like supersized energized pen pals of yore. Most of mine are hundreds and thousands of miles from me. It kind of creates a unique and special bond when you hook up on line. Meeting in person is like a dream state. It is really cool that you made it happen. You seem to know a number of the bloggers who hang out in Funsterland, and that just invigorates your life. Good on you.

I think that meeting up with bloggy friends would be the BOMB! And I would gladly meet you Miss Jannie Funster. With a name like that you can be nothing short of a BLAST! But the most DYNOMITE meeting I have had was with Miss Heather Powers of http://www.Humblebeads.blogspot.com. Hers was the first blog I ever followed and the first blogger I ever emailed. There’s a real person behind all that talent! I was amazed that she was so friendly and took the time to email me back!!! I asked her if she was going to be at the Bead & Button show in Milwaukee to sell her wicked cool beads, but no… but wait! At the last minute she decided to come up from TX, hopped a plane but had no place to stay. Well… my sister provided the free lodgings, and I met her at the airport. We became instant friends. I can’t wait to see her again. And there is a whole community of beaders out there who I will certainly have a chance to meet someday at a show, or take a class they teach. It is just a matter of time. How great to share your passions with another person and make that connection. That is what it is all about!
    Enjoy the day!

Jannie — You’re posting too much! I can’t keep up!

Seriously, I miss a couple of posts and discover that Kelly broke her arm. Tell her to get lots of autographs…that’s probably the only fun thing about a broken arm. Although, high on those rocks, she does seem be having a good time:~)

I’ve never anyone in my blogging community…well, actually I’ve not physically met another blogger. I know this is hard to believe, but I guess it’s where I live and maybe my age. When I mention blogging, the people I meet all think I’m talking about clogging! There’s a big difference:~)

Anyway, I’m impressed and a bit envious. There are so many people I would love to meet:~)

Izzy sends her best to Blue Bunny…now she’s a lucky one. She gets to go a MUSE conference in December. It’s at Maya Bay in Thailand. She’s hoping Blue Bunny can attend. As encouragement, she asked that I send this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoMzucvWWWw

LYNN!! Hi, I poppped over to Glimpses of Grace and left a hello. In reality I have about over 100 blogs I visit. If only I could figure how to keep up with many many more, there are so many absolutely wonderful blogs out there. Oh well, I mustn’t be greedy. Yes, it will be fun when we do meet one day, and I know we shall in due time.

SHEILA!! There is nothing doo-doo about you in my books, unless it’s in relation to me singing you doo-wah-ditty-ditty-dum-ditty-doo-doo! Yes, I’ve seen you over there at the photographically illusive Paige’s too. It may even have been through I first found her. I’m not sure. Bloging iz gud!

GLENN!! I did not realize that you and Doug had been out of touch for some years. How did you hook back up with him, you just stumbled onto each others’ blogs? I bet I’ll get to meet tons of you in fell swoops one day at my Bord On A Wire book “singings.”

WORD WIRE!! Yo, I like your new gravatar — and boy, does it tie in exactly to this post! Enchanted Rock. Scenic Route. Awesome!

PAIGE!! Hey, I remember you, how ya doing? Your baby girl is so cute and pretty, it seemed a shame to cover her up, but you and I have the real photos. Big Bend… that does sound great! Maybe someday, eh? Or Cancun? I hear you can get hellishly great deals from Austin to Cancun. I’ve never been to Mexico. have you?

CAROL!! Thought of you on the weekend as I overate stressedly. But I’m better now, only had one slice of pie so far today. That sunny day was sandwiched between many rainy days, got so lucky for our excursion. Kelly wants to go back and camp. I’d be up for that.

ERIN!! I checked out the link to Heather’s blog you left, what a bead artiste she is! Your blog meeting story is amazing. I think about the time I “met” your blog you were about to head out for that show. How totally awesome the way it worked out for you. Yes, “the person behind the blogging,” that’s the real treat of meeting someone.

JAN!! WOMENBLOOM.COM based in Austin. How Austin Awesome is that?!?!? I just checked out the site and left a comment as Guest. Looks good over there, Jan, a great site to be part of. Okay, sounds like maybe you’ll be headed this way, just do it in the next year or 3 before we move back to Nova Scotia, okay?? :)

TALON!! It was a very special time, yes. Hiking allowed for lots of chit-chatting along the way. It was nice for the men to have each other to hand with a bit as we did our Girl Talking. :) I’m sure you and I shall meet one day, even if 20 years from now, but hopefully a lot lot sooner. :)

HEATHER!! She got the cast off yesterday, still has to wear her sling when out in public, but the worst is over finally. I know I’ll meet you someday. Can’t say where. Can’t say when, but it’s only just a matter of time. I’d love to get out your way, and up to the Great Redwood Forest, one place I dream of.

SARA!! Ah, the blog poster’s dilemma — post too infrequently and people get bored, post too much and just as you said, peeps can’t keep up. :) I seem to be posting about ever 3 days on average. Don’t be too envious, Paige lives in Texas too, so not too hard for us. Hey, have you ever blogged in clogs? Maya Bay, Thailand?!?!? holy cow, that looks like the place they filmed The beach at. Let Blue Bunny tell you him (her?) self… Deera sara: I wood loev sooo mush to go theres. do i needs a pasport?

VERED!! let me know if and when you plan on being in town! And I’ll do the same if I suddenly or not so suddenly decide to fly to the Bay Area.

NADIA!! You’re high on my list to meet too. Could we hang out at some big famous art gallery looking mysterious, dressed in our black knit ankle-length pencil dresses, matching berets, over-sized shades and Doc Maartens???? It would have to be on a day less that 70 degrees, tho. Black knot dresses can get a little toasty feeling.

Ha! I did it, off to see what’s been happening out on the web.

I tried to get Barbara to do a blogging conference in Oregon – no luck!
I am going to San Francisco again in November don’t know if I will meet anyone there?

Will keep trying…oh and I offered to wash Jannie’s dishes in Austin – I just must follow through…

    An excellent question.

I haven’t met any of my blogging buddies yet. Planning to in the near future.

Have done the next best thing, which is met some of my chat room friends.

Met my friend PaisleyPosey last year while on vaca in Indiana, and this past September, and met my friend Jolly1 who hails from upstate New York.

I do have a friend I chat with, who I’ve only heard her real voice only once, on an episode of Dateline a couple of years ago.

So nice! I’m glad you were able to meet a blog buddy in the flesh. I’ve met two blogging friends in person. I met one gal for lunch in Salt Lake City and it was WONDERFUL. I met another gal for a cup of coffee — also WONDERFUL. I wish I could do it more often. I believe meeting in person anchors or creates more of a bond. I can understand why many people enjoy going to the blogging conferences — even if it’s only to meet several of their internet friends in person.

K!! I highly recommend meeting blog buds if you get the chance!

LIARA!! Life-changing,yes! What an incredible journey we share.

PATRICIA!! Vered is out in San Francisco. (Dress very warmly, as you may know.) And guess what?? I did my dishes twice in the past week!

G! Chat room buds seem akin to blogging buds. An episode of Dateline, eh! Was she one with a blacked-out face?

Chris!! I think your words “creates more of a bond,” is it exactly! That’s how I feel about Paige, and no doubt will feel about the rest of you lovelies.

JAY!! Hi and welcome! Yes, the “analog” buddy I met is indeed real as rain, fascinating, I know! You seem like a hoot.

THOMMA LYN!! WHEN we meet we shall sing in sing perfect thirds, play songs together, swill wicked coffee and munch tomato sandwiches, a teh very least. (P.S. I’m pretty much boring IRL too.)

SUSAN HELENE!! Thaty rock will knock your socks off and leave you in a wondrous whirl for years. I don’t think I could ever meet enough blog buddies either!

BK!! I think one cannot underestimate the wonder and happy-joy of meeting with a blogging bud, even if just for 5 minutes.

BOLDEST OF TESSES I KNOW!! Austin… November. April. Best months evah. Your suite at the Four Seasons will be waiting. We’ll stay in the adjoining one.

JEANNE!! SERIOUSLY??? This coming February, whoo-hoo! You can expect a day-time average high of about 65 at that time of year, sorry. The day Jim and I married, Feb.22 1992, it was about 75 degrees.

Gotta run, Jim needs this computer.

Now believe me when I tell you that this story’s really true.

Glenn and I became bloggers because of the Seattle Symphony.
I was a volunteer at the SSO at the time they dishonestly and illegally fired their concertmaster.
The concertmaster started his blog to shine a light on their dishonesty.
They paid him off to remove the offending posts.
So when the SSO pulled an even stupider (although nowhere as significant) stunt with me I started my blog and re posted what I could remember of his.
Then I looked up Glenn’s address and mailed him the invite to my blog.
Aforementioned concert master and his equally abused by the musical mafia here in this little podunk town’s wife have become friends and will be the ones you hear on the 2 violin concerto that I will be posting soon.
    I hope.

That is awesome that you were able to meet a blogging buddy “in real life”, as they say.

I have a blogging buddy who is also a fellow blogger but she and I knew each other “in real life” first (Alicia aka Yaya). So that doesn’t count for what you’re talking about.

So, no, I have not yet met any other blogging buddies in person just yet. I have several people that I’m quite certain I will someday meet, though. (Yes, that includes you). :)

That place you went to looks awesome! Congratulations on your first “in real life” encounter with a fellow blogger. Isn’t the Internet amazing?

I absolutely hope to meet quite a few blogging buddies in the next six months. I love the connections many of us share, and think we’d all have the best time together. Plus, I could cash in on those hugs they all promise when they leave comments on my site. (wink)
Very cool for you! And that looked like one heck of a rock!

Hi Janine, I also look forward to the day I would see you in person and slap pictures of you and I all over my blog. You are number 3 on my list. I hope to see you in the near future.

YAYA!! Yes, I was very very lucky to meet Paige and her wonderful family. And at such am amazing location on such a gorgeous day. Your meet and greet idea sounds awesome!! Can I be there in spirit?? Of course I can!!

MEGAN JOYFUL!! Boy, when we all cash in on those blogging hugs we will all have enough love to last a lifetime. Well, we all have that amount of love anyway, of course. And agreed — “one heck of a rock” for sure — I think they oughta have that on their entrance sign.

GH BLOGGER!! So not you have me very very curious as to who are numbers one and two on your list?? :)

Jannie: Oh, there was life before the Internet. But it was a dark time, and we do not speak of it.

In the time I do speak of, e-mail existed, but your parents were afraid of it. People hung out on bulletin boards and chat rooms. There were no graphics! Or, there were, but it wasn’t worth it to me to wait ten minutes for the Mosaic homepage to load at 2400 baud.

Is it me, or did our grandparents’ “good-ol’-days” ramblings make for better stories? :)

Well, that’s completely awesome Jannie (and Miss Paige)! I have to say that meeting in person takes these online connections to a new level. I’ve done this a couple of times (and it’s been so, so great!) – and – woohoo – this coming weekend I’m off to meet a few all at once (how do I even contain the excitement, I’m not sure!!).

I have met four or five in person and we’ve gotten together multiple times. Some I am still close to, some friendships have sputtered out. There are some blog peeps that I talk to on the phone, and one that I met who is closer to me than almost anyone.

CINDERKEYS!! I guess you too probably remember the joy and wonderment of the transistor radio, then the Sony cassette Walkman? At the time I assumed we’d reached the pinnacle of technology. My mom and dad still don’t have a computer, seriously! Jim and myself were late Internet bloomers, resisting it until 2002.

LANCE!! I knew you met at least one peep, as I saw that video of you bopping around in a park in Madison. You heading to Chicago, right? Nov. 7th! Dress warmly for the top of that double-decker bus, wear your winter tiara!

LANCE!! Yes, you are on that list of 758. In fact I have you in a whole category of your own, The Lance Category and you’re numero uno in that!!

V-GRRL-COMPOST!! I have talked to a blog peep on the phone, as recently as yesterday and for about an hour. And I got a new cell phone yesterday after losing mine this summer, whoo-hoo.

I’ve often wondered what it would be like to meet a blogging buddy IRL. I always question if we would have the same whit about us, the same connection if me and whomever met in real life. Only one way to find out I guess…

Ha ha ha… I noticed that “water bottle” too and wasn’t going to say anything. Dot opened the door… thanks Dot! I haven’t met any fellow bloggers but there are a few possibilities in the future… as well as me meeting the Grand Canyon. And that was sweet of Patricia to offer to help me through my surgery. I was thankful for her offer.

    Hello!

MIA: When you plays the olde meet-the-blog-buddy-IRL game and place your bet there is no telling how it will end up, but chances are great it will be better than your wildest possible blogging dreams.

DAVINA!! Grand Canyon?? Details, please, details! That is one place I would heartily like to know. Patricia is an angel in saint’s clothing, I do believe. Dot makes me laugh, she’s got a great wit, as you are well aware of.

CHING YA!! you are on my list too. And of course, I’ll make sure you have a super-special backstage pass for all my big concerts, which reminds me, I now have the ideas for 11 of my next 12 songs! The latest one I finally nailed down yesterday will be called, “Will You Remember To Leave The Light On?” It will bring a tear or two to some eyes, I imagine.

    And away I go!

    xo
