Bag Children At The Park

Family, Friends | Posted by Jannie on 20 November 2009 @ 8:05 AM 48 Comments

Last Sunday we enjoyed a most pleasant time at a local lake-side park.

Jim_Commons_Ford_nov_09
A park rife with pecans the children were eager to fill their bags with.

But hanging out water-side with the minnows and turtles soon eclipsed the thrill of hunting for free pecans.

Lake_Austin_Nov_09
Chit-chatting and looking extra-cute became the the order of the day and…

Dockside_Beauties
the nut-collecting bags were put to alternate use.

I am still chuckling at the image of blue bunny with a fuzzy blue bag over his head; probably with eye holes.
Do you remember many decades ago when the “Unknown Comic”
used to perform on Carson with a bag on his head? His career lasted for a time. I have been “in the bag” a few times in the past, but can’t recall trapsing around with an actual bag on my kopf. Heading to Texas for Christmas this year, to visit my 83 year old mother-in-law over there on the coast, near Victoria, in Lolita–and she has several pecan trees on her place. As a tradition, we gather bags of them, and then sit for hours cracking them and picking them out. We go home with pounds of
    fresh pecans in our suitcases.

Hey am I number One, yet again? Who knows. Someone might beat me out of the bag by the time I post this.

Hi Jannie! I just realized you live in Austin! I’ve always wanted to visit your city! My daughters (possible) future in-laws live there, she’s been down there several times and loves it!

Anywayyyyyyy, I remember getting “free” pecans when I lived in the South years ago. And today would be a good day for me to put the bag on my head – bad hair day!

Jannie, it’s so beautiful there! Kelly and her friend are adorable. At first I thought you mentioned pelicans but I can now see you were talking about pecans. :P I probably SHOULD run around with a bag on my head, but don’t. My son Joe does it all the time, though. “Robot! Robot!”

GLENN!! You WERE number one, but I slipped in there to update on my bangs. yes, I sure do remember the unknown Comic. he was pretty funny, wonder if he can be found on Youtube. I wonder whatever happened to him. But we’ll most likely never know.

SUZEN!! Sometiems I drive with one of those bags on, with eye holes of course, great for keeping the damaging UVs off my delicate skin. And I hope if you ever plan a visit this way you’ll let me know and we can meet for a coffee or a beer, okay!?

LYNN!! We all ARE very cute, aren’t we? How highly observant of you. It’s a great time of year now to hang on in that park. I remember ting Kelly there 2 years ago when she was Laura Ingalls Wilder for a few weeks. I got to be Pa!

HEATHER!! And the park is huge, I forget how many acres, somewhere between 50 and 100, I think. I should look that up and come back here and update this if I’m far off. Pelicans, lol! you know I used to raise pelicans? (not.) :)

TALON!! And they walked out of the park like that! Silly. We are lucky to live just a couple miles from that little friend — Kelly and she have been buddies now for over half their lives. I have tons and tons of photos of them. More shall unfold in time.

Think I’m going to lie down in bed now with a pumpkin pie and a can of Reddiwhip. See you!

Needless to say, I loved all the pictures. I enjoyed the ones with the bags over the kids head. I liked the last one for the motion you captured when Kelly’s friend is starting to chase Kelly!

Wow. I can’t remember when I actually wore a bag over my head, but I’ve thought about it a lot! For example, the time when I had go to the grocery store and hadn’t washed my hair in a week. Not a pretty site. I think the customers might have preferred I wore a bag:~)

KATIE: Four a.m. Your kids are getting you up at? What’s up with that? And yes, my iPhone took all these photos!

CINDY: The girls would love that! Nothing like storing up nuts for the winter.

K: Thank you for your lovely comment, I appreciate it very much.

LANCE: We tried plastic bags for Kelly and her friends but that didn’t work out so well. Yikes.

VERED: Yes, she is looking more like me all the time, it’s spooky. She has her dad’s eyes, tho, his mother’s eyes.

CATH: Can I send you a bag of nuts?

SUSAN: That must’ve been such a hoot. Kids can be the greatest source of laffs.

G! Sorry it’s been too long since I’ve been to Cedarland, I’ll be over very soon. With a bag of pecans.

BARBARA: my memory is the thing I miss most when I’m looking for just about anything. Like my reading glasses.

CHING YA: it is a lovely open park with many trails. And it’s right next to one of Michael Dell’s home, I washoping we’d get asked in for tea.

TEAHOUSEBLOSSOM: It is a thrill to go out on a fall day to the pecan grove and return with a nice load of nuts.

MEGAN: I love my pecan pie with whipped cream, do you? ‘Cause a mere 500 calories are not quite enough in a desset.

SHEILA: A couple of big ” nuts” hee hee — you funny.

MAMA Z! don’t be shy now. Okay I’ll go first , I wore a bag with eye holes today to the coffeeshop.

LYNN: They are excellent books. And people say I look a bit like Pa , but I think I’m more like Daniel Day Lewis.

DAVINA: Thanks for the lovely comments on the photos. And I bet you look just as cute as ever with a head bag.

Oh the thrill of it all, I tell you frestoll at times when viewing bags of all descriptions I am filled with a desire and want that knows no bounds. Your little bag persons are delightful and sweet by their appearance, but I fear would be no match for one such as I in the bagging stakes.I remain, Yrs Faith xxxrobbi (ps Hopefully they, unlike me,will resist the temptations of the flesh, go on in life to become useful members of society such as Dr’s or tax collectors, but not lawyers of course.)

ROBBI: IT is with greatest pleasure I share that I am one to dumpster dive on regular occasion, with the children in tow for training. Why just yesterday we scored a couple busted up lawn chairs, 3 bags of packing peanuts, a rusty sewer grate and 10 moldy peaches. (But not much mold on ‘em at all, really.)
