A Peanuts Christmas Song For You
Videos | Posted by Jannie on 22 December 2009 @ 11:44 AM 80 Comments
Recently two friends and I totally wowed ‘em at a local nursing home.
I hope this tune will pass as my Christmas card to you, I’ve been pretty slack with mailing out real ones so far this year, sorry. Thanks to those of you who sent me cards to my home, I’ll be dropping you a line.
Speaking of mail… I’ve let My Fabulous P.O. Box lapse, yes a shocker — my “super-semi-somebody” P.O. Box now set adrift in the big big world. Please forgive me if you recently sent me something there, I hope it is returned to you and please e-mail me at janniefunster @ gmail dot com so I can give you a probably non-fictitious snail-mail address for me.
Thanks!
Christmas Time Is Here! Whoo-hoo!!!!!
What’s your favorite Christmas song(s) or carol(s)?

I knew you had sung at the nursing home and you even clued me in to the song it had been… but it was even more amazing than I expected. That was just plain beautiful!
Thank you so much for sharing this here and for taking your time and energy to share your beautiful voice… spreading cheer at the nursing home with your friends. You are just plain awesome!!

My eyes must be deceiving me because it appears as if I was the first commenter on this post. However, that would be impossible. I don’t think I have ever had the honor of being first commenter on your busy blog. Have I? I must be seeing things. Maybe it’s sleep deprivation. Maybe I’ve been staring at the computer screen too long. Maybe everyone is out shopping and that enabled me to beat them to the honored position of first commenter here. Hmm. There must be some explanation. Am I seeing things? Please advise.

Jannie,
Well…that is super sweet of you, singing at the nursing home. In fact, I think I’ll call you Jolly Young St. Jannie (…now that has a nice ring to it!).
Song…why it’s the one listed right here – Jolly Young St. Jannie:
Jolly young Saint Jannie,
Lean your ear this way!
Don’t you tell a single soul
What I’m going to say:
Christmas Eve is coming soon;
Now, you dear sweet friend
Whisper…even if it’s pretend;
Tell me if you can.
When the clock is striking twelve,
When I’m fast asleep
Down the chimney, sleek and red,
With your pack you’ll come
All the stockings you will find
Hanging in a row
Mine will be the shortest one,
You’ll be sure to know
Bobby wants a pair of skates,
Suzy wants a sled
Nellie wants a picture book,
Yellow, blue, and red
Now I think I’ll leave to you
What to give the rest
Choose for me, dear sweet Jannie;
You will know the best.
Merry Christmas Jannie and family!

I’ve never heard you before in torch song mode Jannie, and I’d recommend exploring it more — my requests are for “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “First You Have Me High Then You Have Me Low.” And then throw in a “Fly Me To The Moon” and more upbeat swingy stuff and you’ll take Vegas by storm!

Let’s see….
For a traditional Christmasy thing, I perfer Patrick Stewart’s reading of “A Christmas Carol”.
For a traditional Chrisstmas song, I like “Hark, The Herald Angels” from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
For a traditional non-Chirstmas song, nothing beats “Father Christmas” by the Kinks.

I am the “Christmas Angel” and have cantored the Christmas Day mass at my church for more than 15 years! We sing Silent Night and Night of Silence. They are meant to be sung together and they are lovely.
I also love O Holy Night.
As far a secular songs go…I love the Grinch, but my all time favorite is the Christmas Song sung by Nat King Cole. Gets me every time.
Wonderful blessings to you Miss Jannie and to your family too!
Enjoy the day!

Funster ( aka frestipple) My favourite Christmas song ? Being the agnostic beastie that I am it are actually the Magnificat(in D) by Bach. As an agnostic that cd is to me the epitome of what Christmas music should be and instead of jingle b***** et al that is what should be played in malls etc.If you want a song per se, J.Lennon’s ’so this is christmas’
so this is Christmas
Jannie what have you done?
the old year almost over
a new one to come
so this is Christmas
look at what jannie has done
entertained the sick folk
bringing joy and some fun
so this is Christmas
and what has jannie done
given out good cheer
to folk far and near
so this is Christmas
here’s what jannie has done
wish’t all and sundry
hope and goodwill
peace and love to everyone

Hi Jannie – that was lovely and I bet the residents enjoyed your performances .. they do love being included in things. To have a talent as you and your friends have – it’s lovely to be able to share with others.
I love music and listening to all sorts – Mum and I will be listening to the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which comes live from King’s College, Cambridge. This is the most evocative perfect acoustical sound – a ‘performance’ so powerful, beautiful, essentially unchanging and profound – that it’s exquisite to listen to ..
Blue Bunny – where were you – I missed you .. perhaps you were sitting on someone’s lap listening quietly to your Jannie perform.
Wonderful poems – have a lovely Christmas with Kelly, Blue Bunny, family and friends ..

Dear Jeanne… My goodness, “just plain awesome?” that’ll keep me going, complementwise for a good 4 months, thanks so much. And yep — your eyes have seen with 100% accuracy that you are indeed FIRST commenter here on this post which shall live on in all eternit, forever and ever as long as the blogging twain shall meet. I always wanted to say twain on my blog in a context other than Mark Twain — thanks for the inspiration!!!
Dear Lance… You’ve got me all curious about your short sock and why you’d be wearing a short one, or at least hanging up a short one? Have you been a good boy? I think you HAVE been, and should have the longest sock available on the planet, one to fill to the brim with all-natural peanut butter, coffee, bicycle inner tubes , blueberry wine and donettes. But the wine and pb can for sure be in containers, I messed up many a Christmas sock until I figured out that part. From Jolly Youn Saint Jannie. LOVED your lyrics and comment, Lance! You jolly young elf, yourself.
Dear Lane… Little Darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter. Little Darling, it seems like years since it’s been here. And festivus — for the rest of us?
Happy Solstice , Dude. May ye find solace.
Chris, Dear Chris… The Charlie Brown Christmas still gets me everytime I watch it. Such sweet singing. And the story of course. I’m so glad I was able to share my version of one of your favorite Christmas tunes! Merry Christmas!!
Dear Betsy… Thanks so much for sharing your song list. I don’t believe I know ” still , still, still “. I am very familiar with your last 3 you mention — beautiful ones. I sang Ave Maria at a friends wedding a few years ago and loved learning it — what a gorgeous melody. An Good King Wencelas — one of my favs too. Tell Pete I’ll be singing it jauntily with him in mind after my coffee later.
Dear Mama Zen… I bet you sing it beautifully too, more robust than I, for sure with your rocker voice. Thank you. I hope you and your family will have a wonderful wondrlerful Christmas.
Dear Paige… I so heartily apologize for not letting you know I’d let my p.o. Box go. I shouldve put up an announcement. The thing is, I got it mostly for cd mailorders, but I’ve only ever had 2 mail orders ( most have purchased with credit card.) I hope the card comes back to you and you can re-send it to my home. Merry Christmas.
Dear Chris… I am a big big fan of torch songs– my favorites would have to be Cole Porter’s slower ones. And Autumn Leaves. It’s A Blue World. Did you know I play a mean, mean Fly Me To The Moon on bongoes?? Totally! Merry Christmas, Chris!
Dear G … I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard The Kinks “Father Christmas”. But I very well could have and not know that I know , ya know? I too like the Peanuts “Heark…”. I like how they all have their faces uplifted and eyes closed while singing.
Friends, I best catch a little more shut-eye!
I’ll see you all later.

Takes me back to the days when I would take my Brownie (yep, I was a Daisy and a Brownie leader, awww….) girls to visit the elderly and they’d sing. Not a dry eye in the house. (oops, i think that was your last post…:-)
Such a joy to meet you this year and get to know you better. I loved your ways, your wide-as-the-world heart, and all the joy you bring with you wherever you go. I look forward to experiencing more laughter and love with you in 2010! Merry Christmas you and your family. xo

Awww that was so sweet, to sing some tunes to uplift the spirits of those in the nursing home.
My favorite Christmas carol? I am not sure that you have ever heard it before……”Geraldine got molested by a reindeer.” That would be the financial aid director at the college. Blast! That scrooge from hell just ruined my Christmas.
Anyway, my favorite Christmas carol is Feliz Navidad.

Dear Erin… Do you have any video of you cantoring? I’d love to see it, as would the rest of us too, I’m sure. I do not think I am familiar with Night Of Silence. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, jack Frost nipping at your nose, yes what a beautiful song that is! Merry Chirstmas!!!
Dear Robbi… I so love that Bach too, in fact I may put it on as I do some painting and stencilling at i post this, if I can find it. Hmmn, where is my Bach?? So sweet of you to change up the lyrics to that wonderful song. A jolly good one to you too, my friend!! Merry Christmas, if I may. Joyous times, anyway!!
Dear Talon… as per my above to you and the River song, I know it very very well. It was in fact, the first, no I like — the second Joni Mitchell album I ever had. The first was For The Roses. You’ll be happy to know my inner critic went to bed quite soused and silenced last night, and I aim to keep her that way.
Merry Christmas, my lovely friend.
Dear Thomma Lyn… As much of a delight as you are in my life? I should be so lucky. Merry Christmas to you too my dear sweet pal!! And here’s to another great year of blogging.
Dear Jeanne Again… THANK YOU so much, glad you all enjoyed it — a much-loved wonderful song. Did you all drink soem beer while watching? Well, except for you-know-who — too young.
Dear Patricia… reminded to have Jim hook up his stereo equipment again and get your cassette dubbed off to CD. It was a delight to sing for the dear old peeps, we played about 12 songs or so. The flautist has a PhD in it, col eh! She’s Kelly’s piano teacher. ” Lo How a Rose Ere Blooming,” I don’t think I know that song. Or do I? I must check and see. Merry Christmas!!
Dear Hilary… The performance you speak of sounds so very very lovely. Maybe I will get to hear it too — I imagine it’s available on the internet? They do keep that nursing home hopping around this time of year, many children’s groups come in. And I go to sing “Just As I Am,” with one dear lady who made a request. Oh, Blue Bunny was operating the speaker system, just off camera. he’s movie-shy you know!!
Dear Davina… Thank you. Although it’s been said many times, many ways.. Merry Christmas to YOU!!! And I hear Santa’s on his way — yes, he’s loaded LOTS of toys and goodies in his sleigh. And plenty for a good good girl like YOU!! Merry Christmas.
Dear Snaggle… Yes, I had it for 6 months and did not renew, so few mail orders it ended up actually cost prohibitive. Wow, seriously?? Free P.O. Boxes?? See, another reason for me to move to your town. And Sang, will you be mixing and mingling to a jingle bell beat?? I sure hope so. Merry Christmas!!
Dear Mad Cat Lady… Well, hi and a hearty welcome back, my funny one. So great so “see” you again. Thanks so much for popping in and commenting. I’ll see you son on your blog. Merry Christmas!!
Friends, sorry!! The stove beeper just went, signifying it’s now Kelly’s computer time.

Dearest Jan… A week ago we watched A Charlie Brown Christmas in a big rented back-yard tent at some folks’ house we met while trick-or-treating. About 30 kids showed up for A Charlie Brown Christmas in the tent. Was Kelly’s first time seeing it. I remember it at her age. Seems sweeter to me now, as the world has gotten wilder, well seemingly wilder. Yet the world has gotten so much sweeter. Interesting on the Daisy leader — we didn’t have daisies in Canada, the troop before brownies up there is Beavers, in our neck of the woods anyway. Of course, I was in Canadian Girls In Training Bras. Love you too and may 2010 find us bogging even deeper. Merry Christmas!
Dear Dot… Well did you listen? With sound?? Were you blown away? Are you calling a Hollywood agent to get our trio signed — we play most any nursing home, but give precedence to ones that give out free sugar donuts and beer. Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie. Above thy dark and dreamless streets the quiet stars go by. Yet in the dark streets shineth the everlasting light — the hopes and fears of all the years are met in you tonight. Hey — not bad on remebering that. Told you I have 12 years perfect attendance at Sunday School, right?? Merry Festivus and all that.
Dearest Tammy, Tammy, Tammy… I hope we uplifted their spirits, or at least lulled them from one nap into the next. So… tell me, who is Geraldine? Did she catch the reindeer perp? Did she run vigilante through the streets and get her own revenge? Wait, you are mad at Geraldine — I get it. Fie on the financial aid being a temporary set-back. And Tammy… I wanna wish you a merry Christmas. I wanna wish you a merry Christmas. I wanna wish you a merry Christmas, from the bottom of my heart. The very tippy-top bottom on my verklempt heart. Ya hear, Woman???!!!
Dearest Dear Jeanne… What in the heck do you mean by that?? Oh wait. Yeah — I get it now, you were passing by a mirror and upon seeing your reflection, all you could say was “Just Plain Awesome.” I can see that happening to you a lot. Do you have many mirrors in your house? Do you have any rutabaga plants? Or lemon soap-on-a-ropes? Just wondering. Speaking of soap-on-a-rope… I was just thinking today how taking a shower is lonelier than a bath, don’t you think? I mean to stand up all bored in a shower when you can slip into the inviting loving arms of a nice friendly tub, just is so darned lonely and sad.
Dear Jena Isle… So you return here for more. Brave! You probably thought of me as 88? Well, I’m just 78, I’ve kept myself out of the sun every day of my life, have never eaten pastry, never touched a beer and I yodel from my rooftop daily. Tho, it is in dispute if the latter really does any good in the anti-ageing department. The whoo-hoo crowd says a good whoo-hoo or 20 daily beats any amount of rooftop yodeling. What do you think??
Dearest Cordie… I added a few extra sparkles and liberal amounts of bayberry aroma especially on YOUR part of the song-card. You’re not allergic, are you? To sparkles or bayberry? I hunted down the finest organic kind of each. Next year I’m thinking of going with a melange of orange, cinnamon and my infamous “sleigh-ride” aromas. Infamous because under moonlit snowy nights many babies are conceived on my sleigh-ride concoction.
over and out.

Sire!! Hello. How’re things in Australia today?? All warm and summery?? Thank you for popping by here. Are you enjoying the Google Groups Power 50? I see I still have to put up my profile for that and as soon as my home Internet comes back up, I will. Whoo- hoo.

Tammy!! Nab, zero net addiction here. Yesterday I was merely popping in here while the husband was napping and the child serving tea on her new doll table. And today is just another blogging work day in Jannieland. What’re you up to today? Darn I have to go pee again, how inconvenient to my blogging time.

Tess!! Whiskers on kittens, raindrops on roses and all of those things?? It must be a challenge to insulate your heightened sensibilities from Christmas music until 12 days before the Holiday, with stores playing it starting November 1st. But if anyone can do it — my Tess can!!

what the hell did you just say? Like, I don’t speak Spanish, or French, or German, or alien, or whatever you wrote up there. Sister I can barely master the English language. Being from the South we don’t exactly speak English we speak Southern and you may need an interpreter every now and then.

TAMMY!! I think what I said was “Prosperous Year and Birth, then… in something like German I attempted to ask you if you speak Spanish. Then in kind of Spanish I said I’m from Barcelona. Then in French I said I speak French, but only a bit and only on Saturdays. Then I said another bunch of crazy stuff. I think? See ya lather.
JEANNE!! I’m at the library — our home Internet has been down since Christmas Eve. Sooooo glad to be off that iPhone keypad. Ahhh, how lovely you-know-who was watching A Charlie Brown Christmas,I still love it after all these years. Maybe she and Kelly can watch it together sometime, while you and I eat our salads with no white parts in our lettuce??
BBB!! Your carrots are working great! Were you having problems with your gravatar on other sites?? Do you have it linked to your very own e-mail address? When I tried to link BB’s to his own g-mail,but used my blog for his link, all I got was my big eye. Can you hellllp please with that?? THANKS!! BB also likes “Cabbage Night, Holy Night.”
JEANNE!! My “other” other JEANNE — there are now 3 of you JEANNE’s commenting here — how much good luck is that?!?!? Thank goodness, your gravatars will keep you all straight in my mind. And Jeanne — we all have talents, but not all the SAME talent perhaps. Thanks, great to see you again — I’ve been wondering about you. See you soon on your blog.
LYNN!! I just love that cyper hug, thanks. I don’t get many and boy when I do, it makes my life a whole whole lot shinier. I can assure you the “wonderfulness’ is far from mine alone in this post, I was just the tag-along. So wonderful to see your eye here again. {{{{{{HUG}}}}}}} right back at YOU!!!
SHELIA!! Whew, I did kind of slide those high notes through mostly, didn’t I?? That’s pretty much at the top of my range in my “chest voice” — so glad I pulled them off. And yes, that sweet little tree with the one red bulb, how they transformed it with some of Snoopy’s 1st Prize winning decorations!
FATIBONY!! What an interesting name. And you look so cute in your gravatar. THANK YOU so much for popping by and leaving a comment. And guess what?? You got in on the nick of time on this post, I just put up my after Christmas one. A happy New Year in advance to you too, and I look forward to checking out your blog!!
NATALIA!! Ahhh, thanks. I’m not a professional singer, as such, but I do enjoy sharing. We also sang Silent Night, yes such a beautiful, beautiful carol indeed. I was hoping to get a bit of a medley up with maybe 20 seconds of each of our dozen or so songs, but time and my Internet connection said that was not to be this year.
WHOO-HOO!!!!

Rose!! I can’t wait to learn more songs with Kathleen and Connie to perform them for the old folks. One lady asked for “Just As I Am,” and tho I know the melody but not the words, I’d like to get to know the song. She did sing it to me after the Christmas songs and it was lovely. We snag it at my maternal grandmother’s funeral.

When you do something from the heart, you know it feels right. It can only send out loving energy. People choose whether and ifso, how to receive it. The loving intention is to inspire and encourage. Thank you for sharing glimpses of your true self through this blog, your music and interactions. Self-honesty puts you on a life-transforming path. You not only make choices that shift your focus and enable you to feel more loving. You also naturally inspire others with your lightness of being. May you continue to be encouraged, enriched and expanded.
