“Yes – Kids Sure Do Say The Darndest Things” Part 2

Just Good Stuff | Posted by Jannie on 22 January 2010 @ 6:46 AM 64 Comments

These little gems are all from her current age, 8.

For_Boys_Only

1.
Me: Don’t you want to read the “Girl’s Body Book,” Honey?
She: Nah, I already know all my girl stuff. But if I read this, someday when I get a boyfriend I’ll probably know more about him than he knows about himself.

2.  Why do they call it a HAM-burger if it’s made from beef?

3. Sorry about your headache, Mom. Here — can I massage your templates?

4.
Me: Hey, you wanna carve your pumpkin when your show’s over?!
She: Um, let me see when I’m available (consults guide on tv remote control.)  I have an opening at 2:00.

5.  I’m not impressed with you always bossing me around, Mom — it’s not like you’re God, or something.

(Well, actually child, yes I do believe I AM God.)
God_and Not_god

6.
She: Mom, what if I don’t know if Santa’s real or not when I grow up and my kids might not have any presents on Christmas morning?
Me: Well, you could always buy some presents to put under your tree and if Santa hasn’t come, your kids will still have nice surprises.
She: Good idea! ‘Cause I want my kids to be happy and well taken care of, like I am.

7.  Mom, have you seen my Genius Book of World Records??

8.  Actually, I kind of like that you’re not normal, Mom.  Just don’t be like this around my friends, okay?

9.
She: What’s your favorite word, Mom?
Me: My favorite word? Hmnn. Um, gravitas – I like the way gravitas rolls off the tongue. What’s your favorite word?
She: My favorite word is Jannie.

10. If I can’t afford private school when I’m a mom I guess I’ll just send my kids to public school — it’s probably better than nothing.

11.  Actually Mom, it’s a good thing I broke my arm! I saved you and Dad a lot of money because you didn’t have to pay for Kung Fu and gymnastics for me for two whole months!  (She reasons as I contemplate the stack of broken arm bills totaling about $2000.  (We were “between” health insurances at the time of the elbow incident.)

Still_Smiling

So, there you have it, lovely peeps.

And fyi, my first installment of cute things she said has been Stumbled almost 10,000 times to date!!! I know — amazing. Who knew the cute little things kids say would capture the heart and spirit so!

Love to all!

Jannie

Art Linkletter had the right idea on the radio and later on his TV show; KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS.
    1. Actually she has stumbled onto a truism that most men resent. Women do understand things about how to manipulate, humiliate, control, and handle men; even if we are from Mars.
    2. Good question, demonstrating her keen sense of logic. But then what kind of witch is a “Sandwhich”, and how many arms are in a “Coat of Arms”?
    3. Her heart is definitely in the right place, even if her tongue isn’t. Of course, if you wanted to show her your templates, that’s your business. She is wise for her age.
    4. Kids and the media. Kids and technology. The world of the Jetsons is soon upon us. Does she have her own computer in her room? When will she insist on her own cell phone. Does she know how to text or twitter yet?
    5. Moms have always had more authority than God, just ask Jewish mothers. It must be odd for Moms when the child becomes an adult, and they just give you that look and say, “I don’t live at home anymore. I don’t have to listen to what you have to say.”
    6. Yes, yes, perfect handling of a sticky wicket. And isn’t it wonderful that she really does understand how lucky and well taken care of she actually is.
    7. I wonder if old Alec Genius realizes his book title has been changed for the ages? And the booze, too, will have to change its labels.
    8. Now it begins. Next it will be don’t kiss her in front of her friends. Then it will be a tattoo or a piercing, or dying her hair green and purple, or a tongue ring.
    9. Gravitas is a superior word. So is Jannie. Brings a tear to these old eyes.
    10. Is Kelly in private school?
    11. Oh goodness, just let her live with her illusions. Understanding the value of money is too big a part of growing up too fast.
    12. I’m sorry, what is “stumbling”?

    Jannie,
I think I’ve made it to your blog all three times this week! Yeah…I don’t know how I got off track but when you said your new days I made a mental note. You see I can miss other blogs and not comment on every post. But your’s makes me laugh so I can’t miss a day. Oh I loved the God and Not God photos and the last one with the cast. Being in between insurance reminds me of how expensive our 4 were to raise. My God we didn’t know how we were going to make it some days. Yet when you just take time to laugh, cry and keep on keepin on it all works out just fine.

Here’s a laugh for you. I used to be jealous of my friends who got divorces because they got a break every other weekend! Sounds wicked but facts are facts and I’m bold enough to share mine! xo

    ..

    Hello Very Wonderful People!!

Lynn!! I know, that comment about Jannie being her favorite word humbled, amazed and absolutely floored me. I don’t think I’ll ever get over what a sweet thought that is, about the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. Some of her older friends are saying there is no Santa, so it was wonderful to hear her say when confronted by one of them, “I just KNOW Santa is real. He loves me so much”

Glenn!! Another Triple A+++ comment, thanks. So true — females often do understand you creatures better than you do. :) Thinking when she’s 13 I’ll show her the Family Templates. :) Nope, no own computer for her yet, I think on her next birthday. She actually pined and whined for her own cell last year, (every freaking day for a few weeks.) We say when she starts middle school she may possibly get one. No twitter but she does text, oy. Fun on the rest of your comment. And yes, I have the amazingly distinct honor of shuffling that kid 5 days a week by car to her private school, an average 40 minute commute in morning, but only about 25 mins in afternoon traffic. So that’s over 2 hours a day in car!! But it’s a super super great school for her inquiring artistic and academic mind.

Erin!! But you have made me blush with much abandon. Thank you. That line from her that my name is her favorite word, just floored me. She humbles me every day. I am so happy you got a chuckle here today, you dear sweet artistic lovely lady. You enjoy YOUR day too, okay?! — Grasshopper Jannie

Chris!! I am just grinning, smiling, happy, ear-to-ear that you popped in for all my last posts. You are TOO MUCH, you dear sweet lady! What a beautiful surprise to see your shining lovey face here 5 perfect times in a row. I am a big fan of your blog too. Gee, your youngest is tall, isn’t he, for 4? Ahh, thanks. I have never liked my nose, I wish it here more pointy on the end. vanity! :)

Talon!! Well, I suppose “normal” would be not making up and chanting crazy ditties about 24-7, not doing the highland fling in the shampoo aisle at Walgreen’s, and not putting on crazy accents to strangers. But she is crazy about me.

Tess! Tess! Tess! Tess! I seriously don’t know if it’s a blog-growing or stunting move to post MWF, on schedule, but I’m trying it out, as you can see, I was basically posting 2x weekly, but thought it might be nice for you all to look forward to 3x. So far, so good, and I’ve got about 4000 pictures I can choose from for Wednesdays for the rest of my life, I anticipate being around until about 2064. Plus, all the new pictures that will be taken in the next 54 years. And Tess, I have totally felt that way about my divorced friends too, they seem to have the best of both worlds getting a “break” from the kids. And me with just one kid, and a super-supportive hubby — I oughta be ashamed!

Well, that was special! He does have a rather interesting repertiore. Sings everywhere. Just a while ago this Britney Spears line came out of him…”I not a gerl, not yet a womin.”

Oh, and I’m totally with you on his singing with me on a next song recording! I think he will sing harmony too. He’s got a lovely voice. Anyhoo.. l’il Kelly is great yes, thank you. And so is your sweet Baby Girl.

As to your last thought… Actually, now that I think back on it, I think Kelly said cough, then I said sneeze. Or soemthing. I’ll have to ask her. That kid does not forget a thing!

Me, on the other hand, I’ve got to zip off this computer for a while.

Going to put on a clean shirt, after putting on my socks and shoes. And guess what!? I actually know where a matching pair of socks is!

Jingle! Tammy! Vered! And Anne! I’ll talk to you ladies, and to any new commenters all more in depth when I get back here from my wild adventures.

    Wild, wild indeed.

Kids do come up with the most wonderful comments – so pleased she loves your name ..it does run off the tongue. I expect she gets lots of hugs and kisses from that sparkling little word said with that brilliant shining smile?

I hope God hasn’t got a green arm .. that would be distressing! Love the pics .. is that another iphone mirror image? Good one.

    ..

    Oh my goodness! Comments galore!!

Jingle!! I LOVE tulips so much. And hyacinths. I see the forced ones out in the stores now. I do appreciate my freedom, yes. And I deserve it!!! Ahhh, such sweet words you weave. Red cheeked here too.

Tammy!! Yes, she makes me chuckle daily. And I remembered that when she was four she called the Christmas tree garland “garlic!” Don’t study too much, okay!? Oh, and I wasn’t sure if I was stepping over a line with the God photo, but after all, this is a FUNSTER blog, so took the chance.

Vered!! I bet you hear a ton of cute things from your 2 too. I heard you say your younger one cracks you up a lot.

Anne!! You have a 17-year-old? seriously? Wow, you look like such a young one yourself. But seriously, when I looked at my Google Analytics and saw all those Stumbles my jaw hit the floor.

Cookie!! She cracked me up to no end about the boys’ book and wanting to have a leg-up on her future prospective squeeze, yes! The things her nimble mind comes up with!

Natalia!! Photo Friday?? Really? I bet you’ve offered us something very tasty and satisfying for the eyes and heart.

Patricia!! She does have a little spray of freckles yes across her nose and cheeks. You can’t notice mine so much because of my sun sense and Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45. (You are probably allergic to it.) You are a true Mom hero, those little breaks cannot be underestimated. Or overdone. :)

Lance!! Consider those bills Kung Fu’ed. Great tax write-off! She laughs at me Kung Fu move attempts, I only lasted 4 classes because I was not committed enough to the schedule. She is almost a solid green stripe now, (it goes white, yellow, blue, green, brown, black,) and me most likely forever a solid white belt. Alas… Yet, I have a triple diamond black belt in blogging!!

Betsy!! Ahhhh, verklemptidude to the max here. She said that maybe a month ago, and last night I asked her again “What’s your favorite word?” Still Jannie! Must be the real heart deal.

Momisodes!! Ahh, thanks, I took that pic in the car on an overcast afternoon last fall. We were parked and ready to go into Walgreens and she comes up to the front seat and peers at her loveliness in the rearview mirror, and my camera was in my purse – and there you have it, I started snapping shots. Yeah, that boys’ body book — who knew!!

Lisa!! Lisa??? LISA!!!!! My one-and-only Lisa! Hi!! Cedar bothers me a bit in the morning and again at night, but luckily not as badly as when I was much younger. And our neighborhood has about 10,000 of those pesky trees in a half-mile radius. Actually Kelly chastised me for calling them those “damn” Mountain Cedars because “they are creatures of nature too, Mom” Oy.

    Be back soon!!

Jeanne!! Well, I’ll drink the Guiness while she reads the Genius book. I do have the advantage of the voice recorder feature on my iPhone, an appareil I do have glue to my hip 24-7, so when she comes out with one of these I can catch it immediately — after all I do have my blogging fans to entertain. :) So let’s chock it up to (chalk? it up to,) technology!! I know!! I know!!! You’re getting closer to here — just 5 days now. What WILL I WEAR to meet you!?!??! My blue chiffon has a hole in it, boo hoo. :)

LL COOL-CAT JOE!! Hello again. How nice of you to pop on over. You have a daughter too! How super-awesomely-wonderful. Being a mom is the BEST thing ever. Well, being a Dad must be tied for that honor, of course! :) You live in the UK, right??

Hilary!! Thanks, I do love my name too — Jannie, an adaptation of my given Christian name with does start with Jan, but ends very uncommonly . No – not even close with Janis, Janice or Janet! In fact, I bet you’ve never even heard it before. Nope, that image of God and not-God is from my camera which has chosen not to cooperate in taking pictures lately. But I am so getting a new better camera. WHOO-HOO!!!!!! (Car dealer hubby has sold my car out from under me again, :) and I am giving him a penalty, so can buy my new kick-buttocks camera!!) I think GOD has got everything green, making this gorgeous planet!! And how could you mention the Canadian frozen fields I love and miss with all my heart!?!?!?!? :) Yes, she’s been in Kung Fu 2.5 years now and started back to gymnastics this past fall, after 2 years hiatus. HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU TOO, DEAR HILARY!

Dot!! You got that right, Sistah!!

Stacey!! Ahhhh, fat and giggly, how sweet and funny. She pokes my tummy flub sometimes too. :)

G!! Thanks for the comment and smile at your gravatar which always makes me chuckle a bit.

    Debbie!! :) :) :) :) :) She makes my life, that’s for sure. xoxox

Pouty Lips!! Isn’t that the sweetest thing, EVER. That her favorite word is Jannie, even made Betsy (Passing Thru,) cry!

Heather!! Yes fortunately these posts do not hint at the time I called her a spoiled brat or when she was 2 and I slapped her butt twice. Ahh, but we are all human, are we not?? I’ve missed you — always a joy to see your shiny-ness here.

Megan!! Well, considering you YOU are super awesome fantastically authentic and funny person — this post was meant for you. Actually, you can kind of “rent a kid for a day” with the Big Sisters organization!

    Tammy!! Thanks, I needed that.

Nadia!! What I quoted you on very much resonated with me, obviously, quite a stunner of a statement. And the fact on Kelly is she is more of God to me than she will ever know. All kids are God. All people, of course. You too!!

Sheila!! Hamburg, Germany, eh. A hamburger, what a completely divine invention, in my opinion. Which reminds me lately she has said “I feel kind of bad about eating animals, but in another way I don[t’ feel bad because they are dead anyway.”

Davina!! Smartass is right! :) But so so loveable. After I post this I’m gonna go hug her awake. late night until 11:00 for her at a gymnastics “kids night in.”

Audra !! Hello again, welcome back! Yes, that Stumble stat has been a major surprise to me. Wish I had 1000 of her sweet little sayings. You are so welcome, I will endeavor to keep recording these.

Cinderkeys!! Hey woman, what’s up!? I stopped believing too early, age 7, it is wonderful to see her innocence, and hopefully for some years to come.

Snaggletooth!! Smile — you’re on Candid camera, I never used to miss an episode. She just loves that World Record Book – fascinated by it really. They have a copy in her school library she was hooked on, and she insisted on getting her own. Pores over that thing night and day.

Kids remind us of our own forgotten innocence. Adults often choose to be indirect, indecisive and dishonest about their true feelings. Children give us a gentle nudge to remind us of all the humour and light-heartedness available to us. We are all free to overflow with love and self-acceptance. Every thought is a choice.

What can I say? No words can describe what an incredible kid you have there, Jannie. She said the funniest things yet among them, some very, very heartwarming ones too. She obviously loves her family (especially you) deeply! :-) A lot of ‘awwww..’ moments for me upon scrolling down the list. Love #6! Not to mention, loving the picture too! She got all these loving qualities from you, Jannie. Let’s make this another hit on Stumbleupon, shall we? :) You got my vote on that!

I’m trying to figure out what I like better, your Bord on a Wire or your daughters remarks. They’re both fabulous, so hopefully we’ll see more parts to this series again real soon.

She’s a real hoot. Wonder where she got that from????

Ching Ya! You are tooooo sweet, as usual! Stop it, you’ve got sugar and honey spilled all over my blog now, and that will attract ants. :) Thank you so much for all, young lovely lady!!

J.D.!! What a wonderful grandmother!! So that was a hamwich?? A ham which you ate? Did she grind up the ham? I agree on beef would be better. I loves me some beef. But prefers my ribs of pork.

    Rose!! Thanks for the tweet.

Barbara!! Kelly gets that all from my husband, whose quite the hoot himself. A wonderful guy in so many ways. I am definitely keeping my ear to the grindstone with the things she says. And I do believe another bord on a wire post will be coming soon!!

Jingle!! Thank you dear.I will check out what you said.

Fatibony!! Yo, blogging friend!! What was number 11 again, let me scroll up and see… Oh yeah — that was so sweet, her saving us all that money with her broken arm. Ahh, she makes me laugh so much. :)
