Yes, Kids Do Say The Darndest Things — 3

(These are all from her current age eight.)

1.
She: Actually, I don’t mind you spilled a little paint on my floor, Mom. It gives my room that real artisty feel.

2. [Overheard to one her friends] She: My dad is so smart and awesome to own his own business, because he can never get fired!

3.
Me: [when she wasn't quite grasping why we have mayors and governors, as well as a president] I’ll explain it again when you’re a little older.
[ten seconds elapse.]
She: I’m older now — explain it!

4.
Me: [trying to get her to count her blessings] Be happy! Today is the first day of the rest of your life!
She: What!?!? Today is the last day of my life?
Me: No! I said today if the first day of the rest of your life.
She: Ohhh. I thought you said it was the LAST day of my life, and I’m going to die today.
[Thoughtful Pause]
Me: Well… we never know when we’re going to die, do we? We could go any minute.
She: But I probably won’t die today because I eat right, exercise and get lots of sleep!

5.
She: [After feasting on prime rib] Oh, I could NOT eat another single bite. But I do have room for dessert! [Okay, who can relate to that?] :)

6.
Me: What should we do about your budding computer addiction?
She: Let me have more computer time?

7.
She: Why do they make underwear all fancy when it only gets covered up anyway?!?

8.
She: My hands are freaking cold, Mom
Me: I told you I don’t like you saying that word.
She: What?? I’m EIGHT years old.  All my friends say “freaking.”
Me: Well, I don’t think it’s appropriate. You should be saying something like… my hands are really cold.
She: Okay — my hands are REALLY freaking cold.

9.
Me: Mr. Natural – I wonder if that’s a good place to eat?  I’ve passed by it a thousand times but I’ve never darkened the door.
She: Why would you do that? The door looks perfectly fine to me.

10.
She: How did I ever survive all these years without this awesome laptop!?!?! [one she got a few weeks ago]

Hey, if you’re new here, you might get a kick out of my kid’s previous Art Linkletter Loments, edition one and edition two.

    Hi Jannie,

I am with her on the dessert. How can a person not have something sweet at the end of a meal? ;)

And it is interesting to see that the addiction to computers can begin so young. Wow!

Hope all is awesome, my friend! :)

Nadia!! Have you a sweet tooth?? There are many of us like that around here. Yes, these online games places for kids really know how to reel the kids in and keep ‘em reeled. I have to be very vigilant in making sure she sticks to her daily computer limit. Luckily she is no longer very interested in tv!

Lynn!! What is that about being stuffed at dinner but still having room for sweets? :) I guess our tummies have a whole cordoned-off area reserved to dessert?

Daisy!! Okay, 3 for 3 on the room for dessert thing. Well, 4 for 4 if you include me!

Suzicate!! Of the lovely new gravatar!! She cracks me up at least once a day over something!!

Patricia!! Well, Girl you’ll be the one with the clipboard and notebook in hand for all the things you grand-kids say!!

Vered!! I was surprised she didn’t get that whole concept, a little too young yet. Or maybe I’m just a bad explainer! My money’s on the latter.

William! I did so brilliantly, yes, I might just have to give myself an award for this post. :)

Talon!! They are something else, that’s for sure, these little humans!

Mad Cat Lady!! Cute!! How much your junior is Junior? My sis is 13 years younger than I.

Davina!! I know I write like a grown-up on this blog, but really I watch my words pretty-well around her. Or at least i try to! But her peers are corrupting her, oh no…….. :)

Caity!! And seeing your sunshiney face here brightens up MY day!! Always great to see you.

Jingle!! Me too – I love plain undies, top and bottom!! :) Poems Thursday -woo-ho!! I still have to write one — hopefully one that does not suck! :)

I think the underwear comment needs clarification.
Yes the frilliness and bright colors do get covered up
but that’s the whole deal. When they are uncovered
it is like peeling for treasure. But gosh, Kelly is
not quite ready for this news, enit?
Lap top addiction at 8, dang, but the time she is 18
who knows what her boredom levels will be like?
Kids are way too smart, way too knowledgeable in
some ways; or maybe most of us were just naive and
ill-informed as children. Technology has shrunk the
planet and shorted childhood; damned shame.
But then there is the other side; smarter kids will
create a better world, smarter kids will make less
boneheaded mistakes trying to learn stuff out
behind the barn; that’s for freaking sure.

Ahhhh, I made it back from songland and floor sweeping and bulletin-board arranging land. Been having so much fun today!!

I’ve only got about 30 mins to chat with you all until I take my bath — so here goes… :)

Mad Cat Lady!! That’s close indeed. Mom had 4 of us in 6 years — wow. The closest were me and Pat, he was born 15 months after I — but you got me beat, Girl!! Prbably got most everybody on that. :) Hey, you writin’ any of your great poems lately??

Karyn!! And she said it so angelically. And hopefully. :)

Jeanne!! Isn’t she cute with that little Acer?! Mine’s identical to it, ‘cept I got a midnight blue one to match the “I’m Blogging This” tee of my dreams. ;) :) :) Ahh, thanks on number 4. ;) Yes, all those are funny, glad yo ucould share the humor too. ALL these years without a laptop!! ;) Jeanne, the day after and before my b-day was great, but day of had a silly ol headache. But no headache now, baby! – whooo-hoooo!!! Even washed my hair yesterday!!!! oh, yeah!! :)

Cinderkeys!! Now…. was that Rita Coolidge? Calvin Coolidge?? Or another Coolidge?? :)

Jan!! Why thanks for your votes of support. Thanks so much! This blog is actually pretty-much my journal. Do I better keep my security up-to-date, right!?

Barbara!! :) :) She’s something! And are you another one to join the growing many here wiht the having room for dessert part? :)

Dorothy!! I was sitting here wondering .. “that show?… that show?…” then the lightbulb hit — the title I’ve been giving these! geez, Jannie. :) Yes, Art Linkletter, I remember watching him too, and on radio. We’d alwasy wait paitently until it came on. I was maybe 12 or 13 at the time – fun stuff!!

Roy!! Good one! I’ll tell my hubby you said that. Just as long as Daddy keeps buying them cars lower than he’s selling them for and trying to keep his overhead down, he probably won’t get fired! ;) Oh and Roy — is your arm hot up there over the sun?? :)

Sire!! She has one!!! She did 2 posts a few months ago, but has been on hiatus since. Her first post was called “Grand Opening” I kid thee freaking not! She is a major trip.

Robin!! Well, the great thing about heading to grand-ma land some day in the distance you can maybe write down their things if you want. I can’t wait to be a grand-ma! I’ll baby sit up to 2 hours a day on weekdays and have my weekends free!! :) Oh, I asm so gald you like that Motorcycle Cop song! And can you believe I forgot to write in the credits that teh cop;s voice is my hubby!!! Yep. But it’s kind cool as I only pressed 200 of those last spring, and will be switching up things for a re-master and re-release someday (probably, possibly?) :) so you have a real colletor’s item there, Girl!! ;) Hope the rest of the tunes did not disappoint on your date!! I know some are better than others! :) And you will notice probably a very big cool evolution wit hthe next CD — whoo-hooo!!!!

Dot!! Yep, kids don’t beat around the bush too much. They know what they want and tend to go for it whenever they can! :)

Well, guys I better post this little ‘ol comment and git going. But I’ll be back!! I hope!!!!! :)

Calvin Coolidge. Sorta. The Coolidge effect gets its name from this tale.

Calvin and Grace Coolidge visit a farm, and the owner takes them on a tour. While in the chicken coop, they witness a rooster and a hen getting it on.

“Does that rooster mate just once a day, or …?” asks Grace Coolidge.

“Oh no, he’ll have a go several times a day,” says the farmer.

“Tell that to Mr. Coolidge,” she says.

“So,” says President Coolidge, “Is it with just one hen?”

“Oh no, many hens,” says the farmer.

    “Tell that to Mrs. Coolidge.”

(I have no idea why this particular pair was used for the joke, but … there you have it. :) )

Farnoosh!! Hi!! And welcome, a lovely treat to meet you. I do believe that we are never quite ready for anything having to do with kids, :) our only choice is to ride the swells as life’s ocean leads us, and steer our ships from love. And it all ends up smoothing sailing. (most of the time. ) :)

Sheila!! Whatya gonna do with them and “bad werds”?? Well, I suppose if they could hold onto that term and not move up to the big F word, freaking might not be such a big deal after all! :)

Megan!! That is the funniest comment I’ve read in awhile!! I already know about you and your little black undies over at Lance’s blog, you!! :) :) You CRACKed me up!! I love you!!!!!

Shakira!! I chose the Blogger Buddy one, and I just published it in my Sail A Poem And A Child Out To Sea post, whoo-hoo!!! Thank you SO much!! :)

Jingle!! I did it, yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Capturing Phi!! Hi, Phi!!! Welcome. I LOVE your sheep. A seven-year-old, oh how they grow so fast. Hey, may I suggest a small digital recorder to capture those precious moments? Faster than pen and paper, and easier while driving!! :)

Robin!! Oh you poor thing — subjecting yourself time and again to my tunes. Aren’t you sick of those yet!?!?! Kelly, how could I not include that song of hers on there? I was doing a little home demo recording one day, had the microphone all set up. She asked to sing and voila — she made that and a few other tunes up on the spot! But wait — what about the wedgie song??? You like thar one??? :) :) :)

    Jannie!! Whoo-hoo!!!

Brian!! You have some of those kid-creatures hanging around your house too, right? Two of them, I think? yeah, that song — I’m at the point now where I have to whittle 60 lines into the best 24 — but I’ll do it — I’ve done it before!! :)

    Topsy!! Whoo-hoo!!

Ching Ya! Kelly is very musical too, yes! Always writing songs, singing and such. One of her songs is on my CD ( my first Cd, as there will for sure be a second — and maybe my third will be funded by some giant music corporation!!?? We’ll see. :) Kelly has taken guitar for almost 2 years now, and piano for a year and a half. She is not always up for practicing piano, but it’s important to stick with it, for the love if it.

Snaggle!! I will have to check my deleteds, as sometimes hubby is click-happy to get rid of mails he may not understand. Glad you got it!!! (And OMG, you will not believe the typo I just made in that last sentence. But you can imagine, I’m sure!)

Tess!! She started begging for a phone seiously about 2 years ago!!! In FIRST grade!! We tell her maybe when she’s 12 or 13, middle school-ish. Texting is fun tho, I can see how the addiction would develop! And at least it’s communication, right??:) And writing!! :)

Kids perspective on life is just awesome :)

Viola!! Hi, and a big TEXAS welcome to ya!! Now, Vi, you will have to come back and leave a link to your blog so I can get to your poetry quick and easily!! Did you have an air matress under your sleeping bag when you camped?? For me that makes all the difference! Just make sure you don’t have a leak in it — not so much fun. :)

Hi Jannie, I don’t have a blog. My poems, stories, and awards are posted on William’s public blog. I call him Billy, because we have been friends for nine years. You can read more poems and stories by me on this page, some of them all you do is click on the picture with my name. Viola Tabor. You can also read poems by other people on Billy’s public blog. I don’t do my own blog because of my eyes, I am limit to what I can do and how long I can stay on the computer. I don’t get to read and do everything that I wish I could. I do find your blog a joy to come to, and your posts a joy to read. Viola: http://billmanson.blogspot.com/

Oh, yes Jannie, I forgot to say thank you on the air matress tip. I never thought about that. I had one that I slept on when guest came, because I gave them mine and my husbnd’s bed. LOL but we enjoyed sleeping on it in the living room. Then the tornado came and blew it away to only God knows where. I will just have to go buy another one so my grandkids and I can go camping. They would love that.

Viola!! Ah, yes — William! I am quite enjoying his blog and getting to know him, he weaves such great rhyme and stories. What a wonderful poetry crew!! I will look forward to clicking your page there. I see he even has me linked up — what a guy!!

I can’t imagine the terror and ensuing heartbreak of a tornado. What a shame, Vi. Was that a recent event? Grand-kids!! How lovely. I bet they keep you hopping!! :) Thanks for popping in again!

It’s funny how dessert can always fit.

It always bothered my Mom that I had more room for dessert than my meal, but I’d just say I got bored and needed a new taste and dessert is just the thing to do it. It’s funny thinking back … I didn’t get full … I got bored.
