Why Yesterday Was So Darn Great!
Just Good Stuff | Posted by Jannie on 14 May 2010 @ 1:02 PM 48 Comments
How do I begin to describe the wonders of a day where the price of donuts was slashed by a whole FORTY cents each!?
Where the cheddar had grown but a rose petal depth of mold, and only on one corner?
A day bursting with the thrill of snagging a parking spot RIGHT IN FRONT of the grocery store!!? Next to a handicapped spot! Even tho I later had to wander the parking lot for 15 minutes searching for the van (having forgotten — of course — where I parked) it’s that joyful moment of swooping into a primo spot that will forever linger on.
Yesterday… I pared my blog drafts down from 67 to 12! (I get a lot of ideas. Most totally inane upon review.)
Instead of potentially being overdrawn in my checking, I actually had $12.35! (Whew.)
I think I GOT the melody I was seeking! I totally think I did!! (Duh, Jannie of little faith.)
We were all healthy.
We laughed quite a few times.
The burger buns were so fresh they fairly floated apart like dandelion fluff.
Water bounced out of the taps when I turned them.
Lights appeared when I flicked switches.
And there was not so much a speck of pet anything on the carpet all day. (I won’t get too specific on the latter, not with all these lovely donuts in this post.)
That’s a heavenly heavenly day in my books.
Anything heavenly in yours?

Hey there Jannie!!
That $12.35 should net you about 20 donuts with some change to spare!
I KNOW!!!
Miracles!!
Perfect Days!!
Donuts galore!!
Donuts that don’t snore!
Donuts 5 times 4!
Knock yourself out…ya health nut!!!
Did someone say “nut”?
I’ll take a few almonds and peanuts!!
I’m home (well…back in the home state anyway!) – and that’s pretty heavenly!!

Oh we are having the second day of sunshine – no rain, no hail, no wind and the fellow is here installing the new dishwasher and my computer is working this morning and I went out to lunch and met 3 new friends on Wednesday and will meet a grown up friend of one of my children’s in a few minutes to talk about her wedding and her groom….at a coffee shop (I know I do not drink coffee and it is a local one not a chain) So I am feeling pretty much a bundle of gratitude today myself….like it might actually be spring…Yes!
I have to glean out the drafts folder all the time, because in hindsight I don’t really want to write about that stuff!
Thanks for the vicarious donuts – yum yum (That reminds me, I could do up my jeans this morning which means some of the protective coating must be melting away and that makes me uber happy)

Oh Gawd. I want a donut now! I used to work in a donut shop and could eat them fresh… whenever I wanted. Can you imagine? I didn’t gain any weight either, because we were run off our feet in that place. The sun is heavenly in my day today, and the promise of going hiking on Sunday with a group. This time I won’t get lost on THAT mountain. Have a great weekend, Jannie.

Well Lance, you are exactly correct — I’ll have 20.875 donuts from that money!! Might even be able to scrape up another nickel for the remaining .125 of a donut Well,I mean I would’ve but I spent it today on 6 coffees. just kidding! I bought beer!
And hey — had you just come form Barbara Swafford’s rhyming post??
Ryhme time! Hey, I’ve got NY NY fever now.
My dear Laura, I’m always luring you over here with donuts.
Did you get one? A donut is almost as good as a chocolate chip banana pancake, right??
My dear Lynn, I simply will HAVE to try some of that Nutella and let you no what I think of it!
Ahh, Erin!! How wonderful to see you breezing in again! And today is going well too. After I realized my video wasn’t uploading correctly to to YouTube and that wouldn’t be my post. And that it was raining, so my plans for an alternate post I needed an outdoor picture for would not happen either, telling all of you about my amazing yesterday seemed like just the ticket.
Patricia!! our dishwasher has been broken for 2 weeks. And funny – doing them by hand my kitchen is actually cleaner than before. I am actually getting the dishes done each and every day! Who knew? What brand dishwasher did you go with? I just LOVE local coffee shops, we have great choices here in Austin — I love Lift, and Austin Java. And wow — doing up your jeans is a very very good thing. Are they low risers? Oh, I dearly miss the day when pants came all the way up to that part of the anatomy known as The Waist.
Davina!! Was it a Tim Hortons?? i just LIVE there when I’m in Canada. I actually eat their whole wheat carrot donuts. Oh, and Tim Bits! Gotta love those Tim bits. The little glazed ones? I’m sure I could scarf 100 in a sitting.
Paige — hey, my special friend!! here, let me actually scroll up and read this post again to refresh me on just how amazing yesterday was… oh yeah — it was sweet!
Like YOU!
Jingle — hey, sweet lady — yes donuts are an acquired taste, the best ones in Austin in my opinion are Howdy donut. But… Randall’s did have these for .59 instead of the usual .99!! how could I resist??
One donut a month. I think I eat only 1 an hour.
Vered!! I think it’s good to capture ideas, you never know what will stick. They say writing needs 80% of it to be fertilizer?
Sweet Jewel! A donut lady after my own heart. My grandmother — Dad’s mom she made the most amazing ones. She died when i was 6, but i still remember her fluffy sugared donuts! She even let me “help” make them.

Wow, we’re moving up in the world: weekly commenting.
Well, except for the crappy service at the restaurant where I took my wife to lunch, today I spent a dull half day at work, followed by a fantastic half day with my wife. Took her to lunch then took a walk at the local park, complete with photos that should make it to my photo blog in a couple of months.
And the weather was purrfect: sunny, breezy and temps in the lo 70’s.

I also got a new MW and MW/Convection oven along with the Kitchenaid dishwasher…everything in the kitchen just went out of commission in November…the same time as the knee went stiff? Maybe too much standing?
I am very tired of cooking…I wish my partner cooked some of the time, but we could not afford to eat out so I needed some help in the kitchen to not need so much standing time.
It is still sunny and a got a small walk in today…and it was lovely to meet a new person and visit for awhile. sweet as donuts

Hey G, I know pretty outrageous how e’ve been getting over to eachothers blogs, eh? Ahh, you day with your wife, I mean half day, sounds like a wonderful was to enjoy spring. Well, except for the crappy restaurant service, that is.
Hi Patricia. Kitchenaid, I’ll check that out. I see that our broken-down dishwasher is a Maytag. It’s given 15 years of heavy-duty service. I like the style because it can handle things like tall trays and such. Cooking can get to be a chore, yes. I hope Partner will give you a day off from it sometime — you deserve a break, as I know you do put a lot of time and effort into your meals.
Thanks Daisy — you deserve wonderful days too. I hope you’ve been having them lately? But with your sunny attitude of gratitude, something tells me you make ALL your days sing!
Hey Brian — I bet you and your family will miss each other A LOT. Enjoy your alone time, if you can. And don’t work TOO hard.
Hey, Jingle — hope you are well today! I think I’ll go for open-minded!
Ahhh, I enjoyed reading a lot of new poets, it was my pleasure.
Mia!! Totally!! It was like a dream. And I feel today coming on the same way.
Hey Talon, what kind of trees did you by? Your property will just shine with those additions, even more than it already shines. And happy first date anniversary! Jim’s and mine will be 20 years on July 30th.
Snaggle, sorry to hear about your awful night. And I hope you’ll get a good day before June, Snaggle. It just doesn’t seem right. Are the down-stairs-ers leaving permanently? Funny — Kelly eats a lot of her food single-handedly and on the tips of her fingers, a little quirk she has. More than a couple pieces of pizza have landed on the floor, despite my reminders to her.
Hey, Natalia — splashing in the pool sounds GREAT! That’s one of the first things we’ll do when Kelly gets her cast off. She’s got a little above-ground pool out back we’ll fill up and enjoy! Looking forward to that day!
Hey Tess!! Well, YOU wrote the book on fun and joy, so I’m just taking YOUR cue on looking for the positive things and sharing them with you. Yes, I am familiar with your love of those cream-filled donuts! I had one of those too yesterday. Um, um!! Pastry is my favorite invertion EVER!! And Tess, I’d hear you sing whenever wherever and never put in plugs — I’d put you on loud speaker!!

It indeed sounds like a wonderful day. And thank you for making my day with your precious comment on my blog. Today has been lovely here, too — a hike, in the rain no less, and I was so grateful for the rain because the garden has been getting a wee bit dry, and I’ve been concerned about the shrinkage of the tadpole’s pond. But things are looking up for both the garden and the tadpoles, and it will rain again tomorrow, hooray! And tomorrow, I will stay in and write and write and play the piano, and think about how happy I am that you found your melody. A lovely feeling, that! Dear Jannie, you are a melody — a beautiful and inspired one.

Welcome back Tammy!! Well, all that positive stuff just jumped out at me! What a happy lucky day. I’ll mail ya a whole dozen of those donuts if you want!
Welcome back, Kotter!
Oh wait, no Kotter here…
Welcome back, Lane! That sounds sweet — piano and violin. I should to ahead and bite the bullet — let my friends and fam know I’m switching my FB to Jannie Funster, and get on with the whole thing. And see what happens next.
Welcome back, Chris Edgar! Luckily it was a 29lb block of cheddar — so the mold was but a speck of dust really.
Welcome back, Mama Zen! Well, I lied — there was cat hair, a lot of cat hair, but nothing of a moist and / or mooshy nature. TG!
Welcome back, Thomma Lyn! Have I mentoned lately I LIVE for your tunnel vision??
Oh yes, I did mention that on your site yesterday.
yes, I did think your garden looked a little dry. SO happy for the rain for you. And a rain hike — cool! You were all garbed up to not get too wet, I assume? I need some rubber boots, just reminded me.
Yes, I think I’ve got a melody that can work, it’s over 16 measures so I am toyin gwith a little variety with it, but I think I’ve got it coming along very very well — WHOO–HOO!!!!!!!
Welcome back, J. D. ! Yes, just like the Disney 3-D – Up! And like Jimmy Webb’s “Up, Up Away,” made famous by The 5th Dimension, ’twas a good day indeed. And yesterday was a good one — and today too! Ahh, how great you got out for a spin on the bike! Was it your first this spring?
Welcome back, Sire! I am SO SORRY to seduce your tummy and taste buds with those sugary confections. A diet, eh? And carrots? I remember 2 years ago when I lasted for a whole 10 days of the initial 14 day kick-off of The South Beach Diet, carrots were NOT allowed, becasue they had the wrong kind of starch in
em. Go figure!! And I remmeber in college I’d be on coffee / carrot diets — madness. I’d love to lose 8lbs! How ’bout you? The best way I’ve found is to cut back a little on everything.
Welcome back , Hilary! I am so glad to hear you are coasting along with no major worries, enjoying some bliss. I was a little blue a few days ago but bounced back quite well — and am going to try to really focus on the positive and stay Un-blue! That Valuable Life Lesson in action, as I realize a dip is really preparation for growth!
I enjoyed your bat / moth post very much!
Welcome back, Ana! Yes, Kelly is taking her broken arm in stride, is quite used to the cast now, and her having been in one just a few months prior. Things are beautiful here. The front of our house is shaping up almost to finished now, in construction. Oh, and when I get back to London, or you get over here — we’ll hit all the best dessert and sweets spots!!!
