Tree House Interior, by iPhone

tree_house_this_morning

These photos are straight out of my iPhone and not fancy. The 3GS’ quality is “iffy” when light does not fall directly on the subject. Please excuse.

But wait ’til I get my Amazing Camera this summer! Oh, it’s gonna be sooooo Grrreat!!

Anyway…

This morning Kelly went up to her clubhouse to brush her hair and arrange Kirsten for breakfast.

I came back from dropping her at school to find Kirsten still at table.

tree_house_interior_b

She sat there all day like that.  Such amazing staying power!  Just sitting and sitting.

Kirsten_Doll

Kellllllly, where arrrrre you?? I’m waaaaaaiting.

tree_house_interior_d

The photo directly above is one of those “iffy” ones due to the 3GS’ lighting challenges.

But enough of that…

:)

Yesterday Kelly and her pals had a little American Girl Doll party in the clubhouse.

The dolls got so sleepy…

tree_house_yesterday2

Mid-afternoon I arrived with a tray of apple juice and popcorn to find Kelly wedged between the bed and the frame.

Stuck_behind_bed

Luckily her friends managed to pull her free.

tree_house_yesterday

I still have to set the bunk bed up correctly. We got it off Craigslist, and one bolt was missing.

But I WILL get it together.  And take photos when I get my Amazing Camera!

See all the great stuff to look forward to in Funsterland??  :)

Whoo-hoo!!!

Yep, Jim had the clubhouse hard-wired.  That’s an A/C / heating unit in the back wall.

And Kelly amazed me the other day by asking for the little cuckoo clock I got in Germany to hang on her wall.  I said “Sure!  Why not?!”

Who am I to stand in the way of an 8-year-old’s decorating dreams??

She arranged everything in there herself.

She even brought her broom up and keeps the floor swept!!

tree_house_interior_g

And finally, a Kodak action shot of Kelly supervising her dad on construction in April, 2008…

PRICELESS

Good-used American Girl Doll Kirsten off eBay, landed — $97.50.

Total building materials — $2000.00.

Jim’s labor for 12 months working part-time on tree-house –  Priceless!

Any questions?

Do you or have you ever had a cuckoo clock? Any cuckoo clock stories to tell?

The tree house is the marvel of the age, indeed. I would have absolutely killed for such a space of my own when I was little.

Nice pad, Kelly! Your Dad did an amazing job!

My Mom had a cuckoo clock she picked up in Germany. I don’t know what happened to it, but us kids used to love it when we were little – just waiting for the hour to come up so the bird would pop out. I’ll have to ask her what happened to it.

    Jannie,

Man. Oh man. That is just beautiful!!! That blue is so pretty! You know I just showed these pics to Hubby for “interior inspiration” on our end (tree house wise), right?

Kirsten looked, at first glance, like she was observing Hanukkah several months late… but then I realized there were not enough candle holders for it to be a menorah. ;)

Wow! What’s Kelly trying to do with that bed frame? Break her other arm? Hmm. Good thing her friends rescued her. She is fearless, isn’t she? ;)

    Love the daisy background. Lovely!

No cuckoo clock here. My grandmother used to have one. We do have a grandfather clock, though.

    Jeanne

P.S. Thank you for helping me think ahead about a/c. I just had the a/c discussion with Hubby. His comment was, “well that would mean I have to insulate it and I wasn’t planning on doing that until later”. To which I replied, “gee, honey… wouldn’t it be easier to insulate it during the building process than to have to go back later and do it”? So, thank you for planting seeds in my brain. I sure love that blue!!

Treehouse, clubhouse, heck, it is Kelly’s little bit of heaven. In the Bahamas a space like that would rent for $250 per night. Maybe next year Kelly can make a few bucks renting out the top bunk to local kids for sleepovers. BB could entertain by reading a chapter from WATERSHIP DOWN, and they could play Mama Jannie’s CD, I NEED A MAN, for the fun of it, singing along. All that seems to be missing are the toy appliances, toy stove, counter, real microwave, toy fridge. Then she could have some real tea parties up there. Hasn’t Kelly got any male friends who have been priviledged to see the inside of the clubhouse yet? Stinky little boys seem to be missing. Do they show up just for the birthday parties? Do you throw those in the backyard, since the improvements on the inside of the house don’t leave room for entertaining?

Wonderful pictures – they came out well .. what a clever chap – that man of yours is .. Kelly too is obviously having so much girly fun .. and will do during the summer weeks to come.

I had a cuckoo clock – it was such fun watching the cuckoo come out .. I loved it. The thing I really wanted was a decent musical box .. still do – but now it’d be very decent – when the cash rolls in! Loved music boxes as a kid ..

Great times .. warm summer days, toys, friends etc .. happy times .. have fun with all .. hugs xxoo Hils

Jim has done yet another super job, and I wasn’t quite sure what kind of house that was until I saw the laid bare version construction of it. That room looks so homely, and so perfect for Kelly. I’m glad she is having fun with her friends there, and her dolls. Interestingly seeing that doll sat there on a table made me think of whether you got the shivers? (As she might come to life any second-well that is where my imagination went anyway :) )
I grew up with a cuckoo clock in our house in Portugal, and it is still in the same spot since I was small! My father has always had a soft spot for cuckoo clocks. I must admit I don’t miss the cuckoo sound at all. I quite like the craftsmanship of how the cuckoo clock is made. It is quite an ancient looking one, with wooden cones hanging on the sides.
Hope you are well and having a lovely week.

Hey — it’s raining. But was nice and sunny yesterday for the lake party. It was NOT an easy day with Kelly watching all her friends from the shore. In fact, that SUCKED. But I did manage to capture her in some smiling moments here and there.

    Anyway…

Karyn & Barks — hey! Isn’t it great!? Once we get the bed set up I might just spend my days in there! :)

Fireblossom — hey! Oy, well I know those doctor’s room waiting sessions. Ack! Yes, just loving that space up there, please come spend time there ANYTIME — you can start your childhood all over again! :) Oh, and Shay! I now have 17 typos gathered, so just 3 more for a 20 post!! :)

Talon — hey! I will pass that message on to Kelly, thanks! What happened to your cuckoo clock? A mystery. I know the one Mom & Dad had is back at at one of the little logging camps they built, maybe just a cuckoo-kooing away. :)

BK — hey! I guess the newer iPhone — the G4 has a much better camera on it. My Dream (Amazing)Camera :) will not be an expensive one, but will have good macro and zoom. I am selling some stuff on eBay to buy it — whoo-hoo!!!

Jeanne — hey! is that one awesome blue, or what?? And it was painted long before she ever got Kirsten — meant to be, I think! Yes, Kirsten’s candle set, that celebrates St. Lucia in her native country. From Sweden I think she is? But I’ll have to double check. Ack, Kelly and her “fearless” bouncing around in life. She is so active. And often so impulsive. But I keep reminding her not to take unecessary risks, like walking across the sofa with a leap to the chair in our house. I’m serious. yes, I LOVE the daisy background too!! And BB went out and got me a bouquet of daisies — so sweet!! I think I’ll keep these up for a while (unless I get bored with them, and move on to something else that catches my fancy.) :) A grand father clock sounds lovely! Does it chime on the hour? Is it a family heirloom? Yep insulated. I forgot about that part! Yep, insulation before drywall!

Snaggle — Hey! Yep, since it gets so all-fired (good choice of words,) here in summer when kids would most likely use the house, the A/C is great. And now that the trees have grown so much there is a LOT of shade, so it doesn’t take much energy to keep it comfy. I think yes, it has added quite a bit of value to our home, but who knows what the market will bear by the time we sell this place? Wow, so you have 4 older sibllings? I never got a play shack at all. ( My sister got one. Of course she is 13 years younger than I. The “baby” of the family. :) Yep, Kirsten is such a dear — always smiling, no matter what happens. :) Oh, and Snaggle — on my Paint Shop, it’s weird but when I Free Rotate an image, it loses sharpness. Are you familiar with that? Must be just a setting or something. Weird.

Sheila — Hey! TG no more broken bones. Knocks on wood… (And did you know that wood-knockinbg is supposed to be on untreated wood??) Who won the CD give-away? I must check and see. I tell ya — Kelly with broken arm has totally thrown off my blog-enjoying routine. Plus, end-of-year school stuff. I didn’t realize how spoiled I was to be able to get around to all you sweeties’ blogs so often. But maybe when school’s out I’ll have more time again!! I HOPE!! :)

Lynn — Hey! “Reflex” blue, what a cool term. I never heard it for blue before. Is that your own poetic term, or have I beenout of the loop on “reflex” blue all my life?? :) I did some of the painting!! You smart guesser you! :) She did some too, Im pretty sure ai have a photo of her somewhere covered in reflex blue color. And hey – see how easily that word is now part of my vocab?? :) Oh — just thought of this… “reflux” blue — that would be the shade that makes you hurl? :) Still, all blues are pretty awesome, can’t imagine a shade of it that would make me barf. :)

And now, a little commmenting “break” for Jannie…. :)

    I shall return!

Glenn — hey! I think I oughta move that clubhouse to the Bahamas! :) No plumbing, tho. Okay, Watership down — I HAVE to read that. Or see the movie — easier! I have no idea what it’s about. Well, toy appliances, Kelly’s past that stage now. Actually when the tree-house was being built there was a little boy next door same age as Kelly, but the family moved away. He used to come over all the time and play. Sweet little guy. Let’s see… Kelly’s birthday parties… the last few she’s had Girls Only. Mostly has them at party venues, only have had a couple here at the house.

Chris — hey ! I think after I post this I may well escape to up there, just to sit on the bed and drink it all in, such a sweet space indeed. And drink a cup of tea too. I think teh bed will be nice when all set up. The mattress goes on top and futon on bottom, so it’s kind of a day-bed thing too!

Paige — hey! The first part of your comment made me laugh, as I’d forgoten about eh cuckoo question posed. I thought you meant your Great Uncle Clemmer had had a tree house he’d gotten in the black forest. ;) Geez, Jannie. :) Fun blue. You have it too. “Reflex” blue Lynn says — you ever hear of reflex blue before?

Tess — hey! Yesterday was a challenge, Kelly was soooooooo sad about not being able to go in the water. :( :( I’m just a regular person in Real Life — just ask Paige. So I may disappoint. :) Are you seriously coming over here??? ;) Well, it won’t be “seriously” with you — it’ll be more jocular, I imagine!! :)

Suzicate — hey!! Me? Fabulous? L’il ol’ me? Moi??? Why thanks, I shall drink in that compliment. In fact — maybe write “FABULOUS!” with Sharpie on an 8 1/2 x 11 paper, and tape it to my back for all to see. :) yes, Jim and Kelly both so exceedingly ROCK my world!!! I am so lucky!!

Daisy — hey!! I am the luckiest one of all, I do believe. Yes, indeed!! What did I ever do to deserve such love and “reflex” blue paint in my life?

Barbara– hey! I had no such club house either. I went the blanket route, as you did. And also played in the barn hay loft, made snow tunnel homes and lean-tos out of fallen tree limbs. :)

Hilary — hey! Your niece’s spaace sounds divine! I recall my British friend calling her daughter’s playhosue a “wendy” house, cute our different terms from the UK to the US of A. Ahhhh, a music box lover. What would be your perfect music box??

Ana — hey!! Nope, Kirsten has not given me shivers (yet) :) She has a sweet smile — nothing “Chucky-like” about her. :) They do like their dolls, yes! I’ll enjoy it while I can, until she moves on to whatever next stage there will be for her. Hopefully not boys! Oy. :) Wow, a cuckoo clock since childhood in the same spot. And your father is well? Do you get home very much? I know what you mean about the craftsmanship on some of those clocks — amazing. I saw such elaborate ones in Germany, was very impressed. Of course, I’m very impressed with all you visual artists in general. Oh, and thre you are again, with a twinned comment — how doubly wonderful!! :)

    And there we are!! :)

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Thomma Lyn — I’ve heard about a coffee table book about Awesome Tree Houses. Would love to check it out. thanks, I will pass that on to Jim. Actually , if I may officially split hairs (but never heirs,) it is a stilt house, as you may know. But it’s up in a tree, so I guess the name kinda sticks.

Hey, Lynn!! You know — when you walk into that little room, what 6′8″ by 11′ maybe, your first reflex is to blink at the bright blue — so I guess it fits. That’s cool, Printing Girl. Do you know many more colors? Such as make-me-twitch yellow and ass-kicker red?? :)

This is a story ’bout a man named Jed
Poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed.

Whoops, my mind got away on me again, for a second.

Good afternoon, Lance! Really — no cuckoo clock? You could pop out of a huge one — envision a Lance in tiara popping out every hour to cuckoo for us! :) (Bet that’s not a thought that springs to your mind every day.) :) I bet YOUR tree house is very very lovely!! Yep, I have not yet put the finishing touches on the table and chairs — I am letting my stenciling juices stew a little while longer. :) Yes Happy JUNE!!! The 5th now — how times does fly!!

Good afternoon, Patricia. I am so impressed and delighted to hear about the recycled playscape for your planters. That is awesome!! Yes, I was quite impressed with Kelly taking initiative and getting her place all set up. She never ceases to amaze me. blueberries!! Umn, do you get many?

Good afternoon, Teahouse Blossom! Always great to see you, thanks for gracing me with your visit. You know you are welcome to come and hang out in that tree house ANY time you want. I mean it!!

Good afternoon, King — the one and only King! What’s up?? I guess it’s not such a bad little shack after all. :) Do you dig that “reflex” blue interior?? $1500 a month, eh? Sounds good!! Would it need to have plumbing??

Good afternoon, Tony. Ahhhh, Kirsten is very very sweet! She would never.. Kirsten! What?! What are you doing with that butcher knife. Kirsten! Kirsten!! KIRRRRRRRRRRRR…

Good afternoon, Mama Zen! Kirsten is head of her own Banyon Tree AG Meditataion & Enlightenment Center. I love it ’cause I get to collect all the retreat fees! :)

Good afternoon, Lynn. I feel so so bad that you’ve written the word “ass,” as I’ve never seen you do so before, and I have corrupted your innocent mind. :) Oh, and you now what I read abou tpaintin ga room yellow — it is highly conducive to FIGHTS breaking out in said space! Probably true, as my first hubby and I had a yellow kitchen.

Good evening oinky — yes, the first part of the comment I indeed write in teh after noon, and I now have just a few minutes to talk to you guys again, as Jim has taken the girls for a walk, adn te dinner cooks. Ahhh, I wish they all three girls were mine, We’ll be just “borrowing” the taller two for most of the summer! They are neighbors. :)

Good evening Jingle!! Thank you. I look forward to seeing you soon on your blog and dancing with your poems!!

Good evening Snaggle!! THANKS!!! I bet under one of those suggestions, I’ll find the answer. Oh, school got out yesterday, but I feel I’ve been goign non-stop since. We’ve decided against teh double sleep-over. THe girls will play here until 9;30 or so, then go home. Looking forward to a full night’s sleep. I know you can relate to sleep deprivation issues.

Good evening gratitude Claire!! SO awesome to have you grace the pages of this blog. Thanks for your visit and comment. Your mother in law had a cuckoo clock? Was it a pleasant experience? See you soon!

Good evening, Ana! Yes, Kirsten is always very pleasant to me, wonderful companionship. Never complains. Always cheerful. Wonderful cook! :) I see, you live with your parents. Your dad sounds like a handy guy. Does he dance the flamenco? Or your mom dance the tanantella? I am a fan of both but not blessed with extreme dancing talent.

Good evening Hilary! So…. is that how you make your posts? Take 3 unrealated ideas, and find ways to link them up?? Like this… Now how ’bout this for a post trio… Nostradamus, eye glasses, and pumpkin pie. Holy cow!! That’s one fancy music box. I will be Googling, of course. Pin music boxes.

I’ve always been a fan of forts and tree houses and that is just way too cool. I was watching King of the Hill the other day and Bobby turned the dog house into a club house and it was pretty good, but nothing like what you’ve got here. Hats off to Jim.
