Behind The Hanging Quilt Jumble: Mystery Revealed

Jan_5_10 021

Friends, I had to put all the stuff from Kelly’s bedroom redecoration somewhere to sort it.

So why not the front room?

But I’m proud to announce the jumble of yore now looks like this…

June_7_2010

Well, the kids aren’t still standing there. (Not that I know of. I think they’re up in the tree house. Or running around with paper bags on their heads. Or spraying the cat with the hose.  Poor Kitty.)

On those shelves are 36 sets of kids’ books (anywhere from 3 to 24 books per set) I’m putting on eBay! That’s how I’ll pay for My Amazing New Camera!!  Whoo-hoo!!

What view of our house is that exactly? Great question!

Those two white posts off yonder are in the in-progress breezeway addition, at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the “final living room.”

Long before the addition, there was a window where that archway is…

this_window

After the addition was “dryed-in” we took the window out.

And of course, here’s how our entry looks now.

But back to the interior…

June_7b_2010

Where those not-so-pretty (yet functional) shelves are, our old fireplace once stood.  There’s a skylight where the flue was.

The door in the distance that leads into the new garage will one day will be trimmed out, as will the archway.

Spindles and railings will grace the two posts.

And we’ll have REAL flooring in the entry instead of that plywood!!!

Oh yeah, and we’ll also finish and enjoy the room at the top of the stairs.

That quilt I hung 5 years ago to help keep the wallboard dust from the main part of the house? Gone – as of a couple months ago!

It’s actually a very nice quilt my godmother made for me. I have it draped over my toes as I recline here on the sofa with my laptop.

And I’m sipping hibiscus tea.

In my kitty ears, of course.

Below… I’ve PaintShopped in the type of cabinet I envision for that space.

June_7c_2010

To repeat — I have PaintShopped that cabinet in.  It is not really there!!  :)

Perhaps I’ll have one like it some day. Good-used off Craigslist maybe.

But if I never do, what do I really care?  A lovely armoire is just a thing, and things come and go.

But blogging buddies last forever.

Now… how ’bout a slightly different angle of how things currently look inside our front door…

june_6b_2010

Don’t forget to look here again, to see those 2 windows and the door from the outside!

The untrimmed window is where the old front door was.

Jim did ALL the work, including the floor tiles, himself.

Got it all?  I bet you do!  You are very smart.

Whoo-hoo!!

Moving back to Oz involves making new discoveries. Before leaving, we gave away what we were not using including our tv. The photos you include here trigger nostalgia of going through what was in storage. Now moved into a smaller place with lots of light. Know what you mean about ‘do-it-yourself’ home renovations. Somehow you appreciate things on another level as you are part of the process. Baby due end of August. Every moment is full of reasons to savor life.

My apology for MIA for so long! I know! :) But I’m not going to talk about me here, as I’m dropping by to visit my dear pal Jannie. I must say the cabinet is well paint-shopped to fit in. I used to do that but mostly on clearing up the pimples and blackheads on my close-up portrait. :P

Great job on decluttering. It looks SO much better! Feel accomplished isn’t it?

It’s so great to be here again!

Hey Alice Audrey! I like your comment about Painting all our flaws away as easily. Pounds we can lose, but wrinkles, nips and tucks — that takes money, but can be done, I see celebrity women my age — mid 40s, and they look 30. But I doubt they’re having near as much fun as me. :)

Hey Sheila-Ba-Deila! I am soooooooooo glad you are enjoying these kinds of posts! Won’t it be grand when I post finished shots (taken with An Amazing Camera, I hope.) I will be sure to tell Jim he’s got a big fan of his work in you!!

Hey Brian! I was just thinking Craigslist might be a great place to pick one up, and put in an edit to that. The cabinet is not real high on my priority list at this moment, more of a future dream really. But dreaming can’t hurt.

Dearest Liara, congratulations on your baby coming soon. I sensed through stardust vibrations and fairies a few months ago that you are with child. Yep! I KNEW it!! What wonderful, wonderful news. And moving into a smaller light-filled home sounds like a dream. Are you making Oz your primary residence?

Hey sweet Lynn! Jim does not mind jumping into any building project, tiles or what not. He hates — I know that’s a strong word, but he hates hanging doors. Craigslist popped into my mind for the cabinet, and I edited that point in above. And really — do I want a cabinet that I’ll only have to to either sell before we head to Canada, or cart all the way up there with us?? :)

Hey Debbie — I figure I’ll get maybe $500 for Scholastic books I paid abut $1500 for over the course of 4 years. How to make a small fortune? Start with a bigger one. :) I LOVE eBay, have sold quite a lot of stuff over the years. And Debbie — it’s so great to see you again!!

Ahhhh, Emmanuel — hi! So awesome to see you here again. I did put up a poem yesterday! :) I do love my life, my family and sharing the things we get up to around here. And YES!!!! Lots of fun. And when things don’t feel so fun, I laugh and that always makes it better.

CHING YA!! It is so fun to see you here again. I was thinking about you just today and hoping all is well in your life, my dear sweet friend. Yes, once I clean up house areas, I post the “after” shot. I’m almost a teeny bit ashamed of the mess it was, but since it is no more — my heart is clear and I can admit. :)

One thing you could say about living with the Jimster is that you never get bored or complacent about how things are or look; turmoil and change seem to be the permanent marching orders there in Funsterville. I wonder about Ebay sometimes. I used to buy stuff on it, but never have tried to sell anything on it, or Craig’s List. More fun stuff to do soon perhaps. Agree with others that your sharing through the cavalcade of images is fun, fun, fun, for all we
fabulous Funsters. Personally, I am so habitual about things I resist change, on any and all levels. Jim keeps you on your toes for sure.

Hey Sweet Talonnie-Balonnie. Hey, that doesn’t look or seem right! No baloney with you!! :) Yep, it’s coming along. He DOES do awesome work, doesn’t he?? He’s got the soul of a woodworker from bygne days and the feet of a disco dancer. Ah, cardborad on floor — we went through that stage too! :)

Sweet Daisy, if my relatives and friends who have not been here in some years see this house today they’d swear they are NOT in the same home, at all. Unless they were here after the kitchen and dining rooms were done — those have remained the same after remodeling them.

Hey Sweet Mrs 4444 (you seem pretty sweet, anyway, and I’m sure as I get to know you more, that will prove true.) How did I find you? Great question! Through Jingle’s Poetry Rally? Or Ma Vie Folle Sheila’s give-away? Beyond that I’m totally stumped. Just glad you’re here! And 4444 that’s cool! What does it stand for? I was born April 4th, so that’s 0404!! :)

Hey Sweet Snaggle — great question — is there a wall or a door that Jim has NOT torn down, altered or switched-out. Ummn, let me think. Oh — there is ONE window in what was the old master bedroom. That is original!! Oh, and the window in the dining room. But it may be replaced yet, as it is all cloudy from a broken seal. Oh yes, I’ll tell BB to be careful with those thorns. I think I got them all off for him, tho.

Hey Sweet HIlary! Yes, the downlight does brighten and lighten up the room. I jus thave to be careful to not display anythgi nthere that would fade, like a photos or a picture. As it is, I have each stack of the books to sell withe teh top book turned upsidedown — probalby won’t fade much in the next couple weeks, but one can’t be too careful or conscientious!! :) Yes, indeed — oracticall a NEW house, as I itemized to Snaggletooth in the above comment. Actually — I had to laugh. The phone book people left two the other day — one by our door and the other by our garage — I guess they think it’s two separate residences here!! :) And yes, I think I’ll do well on the books. I have with most everything I’ve sold to date on eBay!!

Hey Sensational Glenn!! TURMOIL!! You hit it on the head with that term, yes indeedie-doo! Imagine my thrill to find blogging — what a great way to escape all the sawdust and ruckus of my life! :) I am more of a person to like status quo too, but jim has opened my eyes to amazing adventures!! I LOVE selling on eBay! When I thought I wanted to start a little Montessori morning preschool here for up to 6 kids, and had bought a lot of the materials, I MADE money selling them on eBay!!

Hey Sensational Tony! Yove know A-types, right? Jim is AAAA type! He’s jsut got those genes that do not like to sit still. Both his brothers are like that too. The olde German-Scotch gotta-be-busy-buys-busy gene. :) But he does it all in good health and with regular blood pressure. And I do my best to remind him to relax. :)

Hey Chris — I think it’s the mystical cabinet of the Chinese Knights Templar filled with gold and all the best ancient noodle dish recipes — kind of like Elaine with her Soup Nazi armoire in Seinfeld. :)

Hey Tess — glad too you popped in. No real secret to eBay, but I do have tips. Sell excellent condition stuff in sets, presented with awesome pictures and honest description if there are any flaws, no matter how tiny. Keep your S&H low. And be prepared for lots and lots of wrapping. (and rapping if you like that kind of music.)I love brown grocery bags to wrap books.

Ahhh, Kimmi, how sweet of you to pop in with well wishes. Things are going pretty good here. And hopefully with you too!
