What Canada Day Means To Me (an incredibly deep poem)

Beer.

Moose muffins.

A parade.

More beer.

More moose muffins.

Maple cones – you know

the little ones like this.

I love to chew them frozen.

(I mentioned I have fillings

in all my remaining teeth, right?)

Hotdogs.

Dessert beer.

Nice people flitting about

like bonfire sparks.

Morning coffee by the sea.

A sunset like this…

Canadian_Sunset

 (That’s a still off a video I took at

Mom & Dad’s cottage last year.)

Happy Canada Day, Canada!

Happy 143rd Birthday,

my home and native land!

I miss a lot of the people you

have tucked under your wing.

Canada_Day_small

(end of incredibly deep poem.)

Hey, did you see a little blue somebody up in the picture with the 3 girls on the tree house deck??

Are you excited about Canada Day?

Ever had those little maple cones?

Ever had morning coffee by the sea?

Edit: A moose muffin is delicacy my family invented, that’s starting to catch on for miles around my parents’ home.  They’re made with moose meat, honey, cheese, beer and turnips — baked in muffin tins.

Hi Jannie .. Happy Canada Day – 143rd anniversary .. really only 143 years old – that surprised me! Your descriptions sound wonderful .. maple cones .. never heard of those before .. but can imagine the taste – I love that sort of cone. The beer, the moose muffins? burger moose too I guess .. quiet settings by the sea shore – is that .. Mahone Bay?

Are you all having a party .. or just the girls .. and is BB joining in .. or is he having his own wild do during the dark hours just before dawn?

Enjoy all .. love from us here – would love to be with you .. Hils

Dear Snaggle – who-hoo!! I bet they’re having a grande olde time up there indeed in the land of moose muffins. I was in Montreal when I was 15, 17, and 22, just passing through. What were you doing there at age 7?

Dear Lynn — I added in an edit as to what a moose muffin is… A moose muffin is delicacy my family invented, that’s starting to catch on for miles around my parents’ home. They’re made with moose meat, honey, cheese, beer and turnips. And I’m glad I told you to look for BB. He’s starting to like getting in pictures!

Dear Hilary — yes, it’s hard to believe Canada is officially so young, it has been around much longer of course, but was finally established as a self governing country on July 1st, 1867. And the constitution was repatriated only in 1982. I LOVE those little maple cones — they are a form of maple sugar at the top of the cone, and a kind of a hard stick syrup at the bottom. A great delight for me when I’m home. And Mr. Big candy bars — the perfect treat. Nope, no real party here, just a photo op for this post. :) But on the 4th we will celebrate. And that photo is from the Bathurst, NB area of Canada my folks hail from. Have a sunshiney day! Raining here again — and forecast for the next 5 days!!

Aye Dear Betsy, me fine Michigan Mitten neighbor, we do have a long lovely friendship we Canucks and Yanks. Well except for little glitches along the way earlier on, like the war of 1812 and such. But by and large, I can’t imagine better neighbors existing.

Happy Dominion Day….Although I am the only family member not from Canada, we always put more effort into celebrating July 1 than July 4th. My mum worked hard to convince us that being Canadian was superior and of course it is also the date of her sister and best friends birthday.

Yes we had maple cones and we also had bummer teeth….:)

Who could miss Blue Bunny in the picture up top – although those beautiful fresh faced gals make it very easy to miss small.

Your sunset picture is awesome…and you need a new camera?

    Happy Day – You rock!

What a wonderful way to share Canada Day with us! I just missed the first blue bunny, and than you asked if we had spotted it, and I scrolled back up and saw him! That’s a very beautiful sunset. Where was that taken exactly?
Canada Day was celebrated today in Trafalgar Square in Central London. (UK) I have two friends who went along to check it out!
Enjoy it, and have a super day! :)

Dear Talon, I am so naughty with my 3 beer Canada Day, it must be a Maritimer thing? :) And Canada gave us Talon, how super wonderful heart-tinglingly great is THAT!!!?

Dear Vered, when in the wilds of Canada and stores are not to reached for months of blizzards, one gets inventive with one’s meals. :)

Dear Feeling Better Patricia — I’m so glad about that! Yes, Dominion Day — I had forgotten that term for this splendid day. lol on yur mom fancying Canadians being superior, that made me smile. And funny — part of my family always celebrates July 4th in Canada, Anut Inez used to smuggle fireworks over from Maine to N.B. back when they were still illegal for a commoner to possess. :) The teeth thing was a nature / nutrure thing for us, and unfortunately nurture won out with all those sweets and no flossing. :) Okay, so you did see Bb, becasue my husband did not notice him last night. And he even had his glasses on! Well, it’s a bit of work to get a still off a video. And once I do get MAC (My Amazing Camera) you’ll see hw awesome my pix will be! I am now in the process of taking pix for the eBay auctions. Ahh, YOU rock, in more ways than you’ll ever know.

Dear Davina — they still make those little maple cones! I had them last summer when I was up. And Mr. Big bars, which are just about my most favorite in the whole world, I’ll have to bring a dozen back here with me next time. Yes — nice and full of protein those moose muffins! :) Oh – yes BB’s head in the way of the sunset. :)

Hey Dear Ana — always a joy to have a gift of your comment! Sunset was taken from the south side of the Bay Of Chaleur, the New Brunswick side, as opposed to the Quebec side. And hey — when is Portugal Day? I intend to celebrate different countries’ Festive Days here over the years. Since I only just started this, I’ll have to wait until next year for Cinco De Mayo. I’ve totally been in Trafalgar Square!!!!! in 1999. So many pigeons. :) Oh, and glad I mentioned for you to look for BB on the treehuse deck. He is a small guy! :)

Happy Canada Day, Jannie!! Wow, those maple cones look yummy… when I was a little kid in Buffalo (which is practically IN Canada ;) ), we used to head across the border and my parents would treat us to maple sugar candy… mmmmmmmmm… soft and sugary and melt-in-your-mouth sweet… but I never had a maple cone! How could I have been so deprived?? :)

I love the little hidden blue bunnies — it’s like looking for Waldo… :)

Hey, thanks, Dustus. Coming from such a fine photographer as yourself, I appreciate your compliment. Ahh, Canada Day mostly wound-down now. A good one to you too!

Hey Luisa, Canada was a great big beautiful friendly, loving fun place to spend my first 26 years. I miss it. Oh, the recipe — it could use some boiled beets.

Hey Daisy, Well the moose muffins are more of a very local delicacy, but the maple cones are very popular and tasty! Yep, I have quite a few mysteries about me, eh?? :0

Thank you, Jingle. I am glad it spoke to you.

Hey, Linda, thanks. And your kitty is such a cutie!!

Hey Lisa, how are you, girl? Great to see you, as usual. Oh boy, I used to overdose on maple sugar candy every spring. Dad would bring home a 2lb block of it. And I’d eat so much I’d not want anymmore for another full year. Yes, BB is popping into a lot of pix lately. :)

    Good nite, y’all!

Hey Dear Jeanne! Yep, had a good Canada day, but July 4th was even better! At a local park community members pool their fireworks, and it makes for quite a show. You did anything special yesterday? Is your child a July 4th celebrater? Kelly says the 4th is right up there with Christmas, her birthday and Halloween for fun.

Hey J.D. Yeah, I’ve stepped in meadow muffins. But luckily with shoes on. :)

Hey, Jingle — poetry rally sounds like a great idea indeed. I have a couple poems in drafts, should look into them and see if any might be good enough to post. And great yu are spelling out the expectations, so there is no confusion. And visiting 18 New poets would be a breeze for me. Let me check into it and see. Thanks!!
