Sail A Child — Song Lyrics
Nova Scotia, Songwriting | Posted by Jannie on 16 July 2010 @ 2:11 PM 51 Comments

Verse 1.
Sail a child like a ship out on the sea
Anchor her with love, then set her free
Stand upon the windy shore
Where so many have stood before
Sail a child to sea.
Verse 2.
Sail a child with all that’s good and true
From the deepest, sweetest, giving part of you
Listen when she speaks to you
Catch her dreams and sail them true
Sail a child, and true
Bridge.
Know that she’ll be safe out on the water
Know the love you show will lead her way
Know that you have raised a beautiful daughter
Know that she’ll be sailing home one day
Verse 3.
Sail a child and your heart around the world
Your tiny, shiny angel dancing girl
Hear the splashing of the spray
As she goes laughing far away
Sail her ’round the world
Sail a child like a ship out on the sea…
(end of lyrics.)
Ahh, feels good to finish those up and be happy with them.
“Let’s Drink Up The Stars” has not fully come together yet, but will some day, just have to let it find it’s own way up and out.
But…
My melody for “Sail A Child” is complete!
My camera tripod is set up!!
And I’ll post a video of me singing it when I feel it’s ready. I can’t promise an exact date, but know I’ll be working on it, and aiming for it to not suck.
Have a super-blessed day.
Love,
Jannie

Sweet Lynn, I appreciate your wonderful vote of confidence. Thanks! I feel I have come a long long way in my singing, I just need my head to remember I have left that “old” singing voice behind.
You have a wonderful one too!
Ahhhh, Erin! Thanks. I did get a little deeper on this than a wedgie on my wedding and thinking a mororcycle cop is hot.
Enjoy your day too! And all your days.
Yep, Davina — like the day I got my 3rd verse ideas for “I Need A Man.” Finito. Accompli. Thanks. Yes, indeed. How did I ever get inspired for such a topic??
Hi Caity! Thanks so much!! Ahhh, I’m blushing all to heck here.
Love YOUR beautiful singing voice. Oh, and I’ll be contacting you by e-mail about something soon, concerning your singing.

Hi Jannie .. great lyrics ..and a wonderful tribute to the little one. Finishing songs, finishing the tunes .. it’s such an ongoing process .. I guess the brain ticks away all day everyday – as you say waiting for the right bubbles to pop right up.
I’m pleased to see BB has his paddles and so is there as back up crew – he’ll make sure all are safe and carried safely back to harbour, after a wonderful trip sailing across the ocean waves.
But he needs his breaks too .. to keep an eye on his birdies .. though Mr Robin is nesting firm .. just got Green Grass on the radio .. seems appropriate for the bull rushes with BB.
You’re certainly sailing your family safely round the islands of the world .. enjoy your weekend .. happy days .. can you sail in Austin? Byee xoxo Hilary

Hey Lovely Alice Audrey! I remember when I was a teen we had an old old lady living in our dining room — I kid thee not. How sweet was Mom to have taken in one of her mom’s pals!?
Hey Lovely Hilary! I love when songs bubble up, ones I’m happy with. The ones I labor over never seem as free and easy. Yes, my brain is always ticking on a song in one way or another, much to the chagrin of my family having to hear so much singing.
But Kelly sings a lot too. Yep, BB mans the, or I guess I should say… bunnies the dingy to and fro the big sloop.
He found the robin and became great friends!! Is that the song that goes “And the green grass grows all around, all around, and the green grass grows all around…?” Yes, BB up there in the marsh. See, when I added him to my header, and liked the proprtion and placement of him, as I started developing my eye more, he did look kind of funny just hvering there in space, so I got the bright idea to put a little something in front of him. Any suggestions for other thing to have before him? Flower patches, I guess. Oh yes, lots of sailing on Lake Travis! A big lake.
Dear Lovely Snaggle. I want you to know I almost sent you Kelly’s laptop, as she was back to using the desktop one all the time, but in the end she decided to keep the Acer for when she travels. So, darn. But if I make oodles of cash on selling those books (still not yet taken the photos for eBay — but its’ getting very close) and after I get a somwehat decent DSLR cam, I’m getting you a laptop. End of story on that. I changed up the order of the words a bit on this since you read and commented and now am EXTRAhappy with it. Yeah, I thought about that sailor girl in passing when I wrote this!! Soothing and sweet? How did you KNOW???
Tony, do you strum a few chords on guitar? That’s a great way to start writing a song — jsut see what melody comes to you. I would not be surprised that songwriting became a natural part of your already creative repertoire. Are you prone to sing little ditties you make up? I had to learn to sing, so it can be developed, for sure! And Tony — childlike wonder, ain’t it the best, keeps us who we are.
Hey Mister Keith, fellow songster. Yay! Inspiration is so catching. Thanks a bunch. I look forward to sharing it. Might even brush my hair and put on a clean shirt for the singing and videotaping.
Ahhh, Jingle, thanks. You are so sweet, and sharing is a great blessing for me. Oh, and you mean my images of Blue Bunny? Yes, he does get up to some very interesting and entertaining things, does he not??

sometimes, when i have so many friends on list, I prefer giving to those who are more likely to take them, but it is unfair to those who truly deserve them…

Hi Jingle, awards fairy. That is so nice of you, thanks. I hesitate a bit to accept awards because there are so many to post and if I ever left anyone out I would feel like I’d let a friend down. So for now I am preferring to not accpt and post awards to be fair to all. I appreciate you very much, tho.
Hey Keith, I sang the bridge so much yeseterday trying to bring the melody key down a notch I’ve ended up with a sore throat. But this too shall pass. And I shall sail and sing with flying colors.
Well,hi Dee — how are you? Thank you for popping in. I guess you are a merry roving poet like so any of us? Thank you for the award. At the moment I am not posting awards because as I mention to Jingle, I get so many I find it hard to keep up and be fair with all. But thank you.
Hey, thanks, Vered. I appreciate it. I tried adding more light to the sailing pic, as the day was very cloudy, but it would only take so much wihtout looking weird. But it’s okay, I guess.
Hi, Patricia. Well, silly me I am actually looking at one line to improve. But this song is almost there. Thanks! I think it’s shaping up nicely.
Barks!! woof, woof, thanks!!
Hi Barbara, thanks so much. It is important to find ut what out kids want to do and help make that happen for them. Kelly wants to be an actress, so I’ll be taking her headshot for her. And don’t worry, you won’t have to wait to long too hear this!

Hey again, Alice Audrey. No, I did not know that’s one of your mom’s pet phrases. And did you know some of MY mom’s pet phrases are “every blueberry you pick is one I don’t have to,” “you have to eat a bushel of dirt before you die,” and “why do you always leave your shoes in the MIDDLE of the floor.”
At least, those were some of her very common phrases I remember growing up.
Hey Sheila! And I promise you will hear it soon. Just have to blonde up my roots for the show!
Hey Ellis… I may sing it a capella. Worked a little on guitar today, but am going to concentrate first on the voice. So I better get those lyrics memorized before I sing it for you all!
Hey, Cath! Thanks. This one came together very fast, spent maybe 3 hours total on it. Well, fast for me. I do have songs that took like 2 years! Seriously. Not working on it ALL the time, of course. But generally, the better ones come faster — ike Sugar Lady, I Need A Man, and Motorcycle Cop.
Ahhh, Sweet Megan JoyGirl — how great for my heart to see you here again. Thanks for all. Yes — I am so happy with my new lay-out!!! Went mad-crazy with my photo size, and finally got me a photshop-esque program so Blue Bunny can live out his wildest fashion fantasies. Whoo-hoo!!

Hi, Doraz! Well, I have come into the songwriting and performing “thing” rather late, but better to share late, than never. So I do what I can. Thanks so much. I am still getting used to the fact I can kinda sing now, because it’s been a long process for me.
Ahhh, Thomma Lyn, thanks. I bet your little nephew just loves any song or music you play for him. And I bet you can whip up a tune for him and have it shine!! (I have heard your wonderful songs, piano, and voice, as you know! I have your CD!!!) Yes, I think your linky-love button is sweet indeed! Like you.
Hey, Mama Zen! Thanks. A bit deeper than a wedgie song.
Tho, I’ve known some pretty DEEP wedgies.
Ahh, thanks Dustus. It is a beautiful unique experience, and I do try to practice what I sing — of listening to and helping her dreams fly high!
Hey Monkey Man! Heading to Target later to buy my hair root blonding dye. So that’s one step closer to pressenting the melody for you all! BC, as in British Columbia? Gorgeous place!
Ahhh, SuZen your comment made me smile with my heart. I never frget about you either, my good dear friend!! And never will!!! I am wondering since I am saving and posting most of my pix as PNGs and not JPGs if that is slowing down the process too? How nice for you to get a “house vacation” from your “lake vacation.” Still, I think I’d like to be at a lake house.
Hey, LL Cool Joe! Yep, me and my big-ass, or make that big-arse photos.
Hey, all I’ve done is divide my 960 pixels wide blog into my body area of 790 px wide, a sidebar of 150 wide, and 6 or so pixels of spacing between. Piece of cake for someone who does code!! You CAN do it — where there’s a will, there’s a way. And your photos ARE gorgeous. I’d LOVE to see em big and wild and free!
Ahhhh, J.D. How sweet and timeless of you to say! Thanks!! Oh yeah, and my Bones tune — what a creepy little ditty, eh??
You know the Bones lyrics actually started to be a song for Kelly, but I switched my idea!! It all comes together.

And thanks for such kind words on my lyrics. I know mothers can relate especially.
Cath — it is a strange and varied phenomenon indeed, this songwriting stuff. Sometimes you keep plugging away at something you like but is taking its time to complete. And many times you just have to say bye to a song, and on with a new one. Or one line in one song will be the missing line for another. (Which happened in this tune — the tiny-shiny line.) And shoot, I won’t get out for my hair root dye until tomorrow, so that means you all will have to wait at least one day longer past whenever I’m ready to hear this.
And at the risk of sounding redundant… I’m loving your new gravatar!! Me? Afraid you’re probably stuck with My Big Eye for a while — all part of my Fabulous Branding, you see.

How funny, Alice Audrey, just 2 minutes before I read your comment I was sitting with my guitar “working” a bit on this song.
Have changed the second verse to…
Sail a child with all that’s good and true
Sail her from the harbor deep in you. (I like that!! Do you?)
Catch her dreams and help them fly (see them fly?)
(Or catch her dreams and fly them high,)
‘way into the __________ sky.
Sail a child, and true.
I am so freaking obsessive about my lyrics.
So off goes I to my list of 1200 favorite adjectives now. (Well, after I answer your other recent comment.)
And I could even insert a noun or a verb there if it fits right! (Nuts, eh?)
And I blonded my my roots. But need to “shore up” my bra and decide what to wear for the video.
