10 Excellent Things In This Songwriter’s Life
Songwriting | Posted by Jannie on 10 August 2010 @ 3:58 PM 48 Comments
1. I have no headache!
2. I have cash for food, herbal teas and such!
3. After an e-mail / password mix-up, I can access my e-Bay account again!! Gonna sell almost all the books pictured above. And many more not pictured – 47 different sets in all – ranging from 3 to 24 books per set.
(I used to go a little wild with Scholastic Books in the olden daze — like, $50 a month for 4 years. But, hey — if Kelly gets college scholarships — I’ll thank me for her early education!)
(Photo from when she was 4, the day she got her first bunny — yes a real live one, who very sadly went missing from the backyard one day, NOT an excellent thing.)
4. I paid our electric bill!
5. I practiced a guitar hammer-on for “Sail a Child” on a C-chord, practicing very slowly, then setting my metronome faster and faster as my brain starts getting it.
6. Tweaked my 1st and 2nd verses for ”Sail A Child” to…
ONE…
Sail a child like a ship out on the sea
Anchor her with love, then set her free
Stand upon the windy shore
Where so many have stood before
Sail a child to sea
TWO…
Sail a child and your heart around the world
Your tiny shiny angel dancing girl
Hear the splashing of the spray
As she goes laughing on her way
Sail her ’round the world.
And the Bridge, possibly…
Trust that she’ll be safe out on the water
Trust the universe will lead her way
Know that love is watching over your daughter
Know that love will sail her home one day
7. For the new first part of verse 3 I’m thinking, either…
(A)
Sail a child from the harbor deep in you
A child whose made from stars of green and blue
or…
(B)
Sail a child on waves of green and blue
Sail her from the harbor deep in you
Does A or B grab you more for the start of the verse?
Hey — another brain-wave — a poll!
9. I did most of my dishes!
10. E-mailed my Wordpress Consultant Guru about the possibility of setting up my Give-Aways page as a blog within this blog, a la Wonderful Pioneer Woman. On-going Give-Aways here could be fun, yes?
11. Eleven! “One more louder.”
I encourage you to press these 2 link buttons….
Wonderful Blogging Davina has a really FUN 100-word guest post idea going on at her blog, accepting entries until the 15th.
Wonderful Blogging Sheila is now ON FIRE in the “Leading Moms In Business” for her amazing, gorgeous all-natural Aventine Hill bath and skin products, which I’ll be putting in a new order for with part of my eBay $$!
That’s it. (For now.)
Anything excellent in your realm today?

Dearest Tess, you input on the lyrics is very appreciated — thank you!! Yep, read all those books to her, some of them hundreds of times! So many wonderful wonderful.
Dearest Nessa, why thanks! I do think it is progressing quite well. Just 2 more lines to go after, then maybe tweak the bridge a bit. Well, her room is undergoing a remodel these days.
Dearest Daisy, I bought quite a few books for her before she was born and read Dr Seuss in utero. And she knew all her alphabet sounds before being potty trained. LOVES to read. And write!
Dearest Dr. J — “pictures came and broke your heart..” I know the song well. T.V. and computers, the great baby sitters that are messing up little minds. Hey, where can we hear those songs of yours??
Dearest Anonymous G from Conneticut, does that lactating have to do with what size your female character’s binkin top is?
Dearest Chris Edgar — “Erutption.” “Eruption.” Wasn’t that a disco tune? Oh yeah, I’m SO Guitar magazine material.
Okay, off to Google B.C. Rich Warlocks.

7. (B) Sail a child on waves of green and blue
Sail her with love from deep in you
8. We don’t have an 8.
9. Good then you can use #3 to buy more #2 and have something to put #2 into.
10. You emailed something about a giveaway to a giveaway in a blog about a giveaway? I’m lost.

First thanks for putting my button up and encouraging votes! You rock as always! Now…these books? WOW! Reminds me of when mine were little. We spent a ton on scholastic books as well. I remember their school was having a book drive for building their own library so we donated a ton to them. And then our actual county library was having a drive and we donated another ton, lol. And I think we still have a ton! lol. I should do the ebay thing as well.

And in the bridge, if you substitute “watches” for “is watching” it’ll fix the meter.
On 11 August 2010 at 10:30 am Jannie said,
Dearest Vered — aye, there’s the rub. A… OR B… Decisions, decisions.
Dearest Tony — I have not even peeked at the voting results yet. I think I’ll hold off until I put up my next post. And have changed up the bridge again.
Oy. Homemade stew — yes!!! For a nice chilly Australia day.
Dearest Talon — still have those pots and pans to do, but they’re soaking at least!
Dearest Lance, you are one of 2 Lance’s I know personally. I bought a dishwasher and stove from a Lance couple days ago, was out walking and saw them at the curb. turns out I knew him frm Kelly’s preschool. Poor Jimmy — he already does so much I couldn’t let him touch a dirty dish!
But I do like it when he puts them in the sink, not on the counter.
Dearest Ellis, Maybe I WILL write such a song. Money IS good, to a certain point. Money for books, Honey!! Ahhh, an electrical guy! I bet I can get a metrnome app on iPhone — or have 100 such to choose from. I LIKE your 7!! WHOOPS — I MISSED 8 — hilarious!!! OMG. I could edit out 11, and revise backwards. 10. Stay tuned — give-aways! 11 (which could be revised to 10… Wife gone — a good thing overall, since she only takes the $$$?
Snaggle, Dearest, of course. Yep! Bought some steak, cake and a shake! I’m mostly always broke these days. Totally. What else can I sell on eBay? Hmnnn. What’s on my shelves.
Dearest Sheila — and she’s kept all her books in SUCH excellent condition. She has ALL Arthurs, Froggy, Cliffords, Magic School Buses, Dora, etc, etc. Optimistic I’ll get some good cash overall. Donating is good. But I’m goin’ for some money, Honey!!!
See you soon on your blog, been so busy of late.
Dearest Dot — that bridge has been giving me fits and starts. I’ve already re-worked it again, slipping into a different dimension for greater immediacy. I LOVE your meter suggestion — thanks!!

I can hardly wait to hear this song…voted for B then changed my mind for A, then actually voted for B???not sure why, but I think I liked the flow better.
I am still offering to come and do your dishes….I just finished mine because I have a Thursday post to write and I was thinking about my words and what I wanted to say…It could be a 1,000 word post but figured out how to get it down to a better number…
I have to write Monday post by tomorrow morning, because IT Girl is coming for the weekend and a hike with her Dad….Library Girl has at least 17 boxes of books in our attic and her closet because she wants to have her own library some day….she has a Kindle too and reads on the computer, but for young children the book is tactile too…
I envy your figuring out eBay….I just gave my mum’s community plate silver to a senior organization for their sale to help another senior with housing and health care costs….I could not figure out how to do it…and the postage was too expensive for UK where the folks knew of it and wanted it…I lost so much money, and worried so…I felt better about giving it away and getting the $2,000 appraisal for our taxes.
You are very busy these days…

Kelly is soooooooo cute! Sorry the bunny got away.
Good thing you now have Blue Bunny is residence!
What a cheerful looking, book-filled room! (I can’t wait to see the post-renovation room). Speaking of books, I see Blue Bunny is reading Dr. Seuss these days? What good taste he has in books.
Congratulations on “cracking the code” on your e-Bay account. I know you were on a mission with that lately.
I cannot WAIT to hear “Sail A Child”! It already sounds amazing without any music. I can’t imagine how great it’ll sound when you’re done with it!
I love this part:
Trust that she’ll be safe out on the water
Trust the universe will lead her way
Know that love is watching over your daughter. (or watches?)
Know that love will sail her home one day.
Brilliant! How have I never heard water and daughter rhymed before? That’s just perfect!
I really like this line especially:
Anchor her with love, then set her free
That is awesome!
For verse 3, I will vote B in just a moment.
I think it is so awesome the way you support your friends!
Your positive energy is just awesome! This is a vivacious post even by Jannie standards!! You go, Jannie!
Jeanne
P.S. I see that you moved our endometriosis petition button to a new home. Thank you so much for posting it!!!

Yes, one excellent thing in my realm today was your kind comment on my blog post! Also, like most others, apparently, I voted for choice B. It seemed to flow better for me, and I also had the visions, not only of a child sailing out on actual blue and green waves, but also of the colors representing the conflicting emotions of the mother. When you release someone you love, you feel down and “blue.” Also, seeing a child who is ready to leave you actually go, a young person just starting out in this world, could make one feel kind of “green” with envy, wishing it was you just starting out instead of being the one closer to ending their journey on the high seas of life. Oh well, just random thoughts from my head…

Dearest William — can’t wait to follow your cast to Rome on your latest poems.
Dearest Erin — glad you pointed out I am not simple. I am a complicated woman!
Dearest Alice Audrey — ahhh, I bet you say such nice words to All the Jannies who pop into your blog!
Deearest Jingle. Sorry for computer woes. Kelly and I often go to the library where there are multiple computers! Makes it easy on family.
Dearest Brian, I have not watched Spinal Tap in years and years, but when I saw it I think I saw it 20 times!
Dearest Patricia — can you get maids who do dishes only, maybe ones for go from house to house?
I am very busy! Wrked on songs 3 hours today, going in studio next week. Oh, 1000 words, I can relate — this post is 450 words and I wish I’d made it 300. I get so words!
Dearest Barbara, I will have to check out your list — I bet it’s a good one!
Dearest JP, LOVE your gravatar. Thanks a bunch for popping by!
Dearest Jeanne, that the bunny went missing is still a sore point wiht Kelly whenever it’s brought up because I let him out. Oh Jeanne an guess what… today I am vascillating towards this for the bridge…
Oh, see her go on the water.
Know the love you show will lead her way.
Tell the stars to watch over your daughter.
Tell the stars to sail her home one day.
(I lieks the star part.)
I still have not looked at the voting, and will not until my new post goes up. And really, Dear Jeanne — you don’t think this post totally sucks. I am trying to cut out my wordiness. I know you friends are busy, and most likely appreciate a short post once in a while. And hey, that’s a lot of awesomes you threw out in that comment Jeanne — thanks!
Dearest SuziCate! Ahhhhh, how simply totally lovely for you to say about that little gal in the photo. Thanks.
But wait — There’s Dearest Jeanne again, giving me the poll results. And guess what? I actually forget the two choices now. Something about beer and bicycles, or something??
Just kidding — just kidding!! And Jeanne — I had a super ass-kicking day, yes. Wonderful. Visited with my pal, Kalyani. Worked on songs. Busted some butt.
Dearest Mandy — now YOU are helping make MY day. So cool you picked up on the blues and greens on deeper levels. I LIKE the way your wild mind works — fueled by coffee.

Dearest Liara, eBay never ceases to amaze me. I sold my classical-electric guitar to a guy in Germany named Helmut. Even have a bit of a song started for that man I man most likely never meet. But I may! That’s part of the beauty. Ahh, so glad you enjoy the photo!
Dearest JoyChristin, what’s up with those moments where we feel not enough? Doors being held open for clearer thoughts I think. Hey — even JoyGirlMegan gets a little blue like the rest of us too. Joy Girl Blue — good name for a song??
Oh guess what? I’m thinking an amalgamation… Sail a child from the harbor deep in you. Far away on waves of green and blue.. I think I like it!! And YOU are a celebration 24 / 7/ 365!!!
Galen, Dearest of course, if you are a schmuck then I guess I like schumucks now.

Dearest Dustus, yes we did read about 99%, at least once through, some several times, many dozens of times, and a few hundreds!
See above to Galen (G-Man)as to the new way I’ve been singing those 2 lines. P.S. There has been quite a few times of frowning and crying from Kelly — but I see it less and less now.

Oh wait — ROSIE!!! (My secnd Rosie.) YES!!!! MUCH excellen inmy life today so far. Took The Child to gymnastics camp, did ALL my dishes — yes even including the 2 pans that had featured caked-on rib sauce, etc. Sat with guitar and metronome 10 minutes. Tk pix f backyard and update of up over the new garage. Organized a whack of pix, put ones I’d scan in a special box. Thought about how photo posts can tell a story. Cleared off my desk again — It gets messy SO FAST!!! Transferred 2 auto titles for The Hubby — filling out the forms. Did a little more on my ebay book inventory. Kalyani is so smart! She said sell teh educational ones NOW, with schools starting back up. Cool plan!!Did I eat breakfast? Hmmm, I don’t believe I have! Must go to that now. We can’t have me falling into a hadacche — that would totally ruin this post.
:0 P.S. I think I commented on 5 blogs when I woke up. Wow!! A whole 5 blogs. So, I guess I’ve done a lot in the 6 hours I’ve been up so far!

Dearest Sara — hey, I guess I should check on the results of the voting, tho I think I have landed upon…
Sail a child from the harbor deep in you.
Far away on waves of green and blue.
Now, I have one idea for the next two lines. I’d like to invite another pair of lines to choose from, and see what grabs you guys best! Oh, and I sincerely hope you don’t mind me fliping your picture horizontally for your link button? I did it to balance out between you and Davina, visually. Hmn, I guess I should tell BB about Bun-Bun. But I think maybe he already senses it.
Dearest Keith. THANKS for the input on the lyrics! Jsut love you guys’ feedback.
Dearest Shining Jingle — Kelly IS cute there isnt’ she? I bet your 2 were cute little kids — and are still very cute. Children bring such joy. Yes — Sail a Child was my original poem with Kelly in the bluebonnets!!
Dearest Wonderful MoonDustWriter — Thank you so much for your ideas!! Yu conbtinue to be AWESOME beyond campare! The melody changes up a bit in the bridge, and the chords get held longer there. But let me sing it on vide for you guys when I get those last lines, and see if what I have in mind passes general muster!! And ahhhhhh, you are so so sweet — thank you. Love dittoes back at ya!
Dearest Hilary, who art like a garden. Yep — a great day! Are you getting sick of these list posts yet? Awake and alive is GOOD!! Sending rain thoughts your way!!
