He’s to the left.
I’m to the right,
our backs bent into
the rope of our beliefs.

We are both closest
to the center line,
so close we could
hold hands. Dare we?

Dare we drop our grip?
Abandon our teams
and The Struggle,
to sit side by side
in some little cafe where
love is always waiting?

A Friday Flash Fiction 55 for the G-Man, who art in Michigan and who wilt comment if you tell him your 55 is up.

Since you’re in Texas, you must be watching the Bill White ads ripping Governer Perry for spending Ike money to renovate the mansion…without bothering to mention that it burned down!…and the fact that we had to send Ike money back because we didn’t find a way to spend it all.

Hi Jerry, poly-tics, never heard that one before. Good one. :)

Hi Eric, that is so true most of the time, people get set in their ideas.

Hey, G-Man, I guess I missed the mark this week with politics, and not Halloween. Boo!

Hey Brian, when I think of all the folks I blog with, it really does not matter what our ideals, as long as we are good to each other.

Hey, Daisy, I hope you have a good weekend too, with lots of love and laughs.

Hey, Monkey Man, I was thinking of one friend in particular with this. We may not agree on issues, butI hope we will always be able to sit and just be friends.

FireBlossom, I’d vote for your dog too. And my cat. I think they’d do a abetter job than most humans.

Hey, Teresa — once your post is up, copy and paste the URL for your post. Mine for this post is… http://www.janniefunster.com/2010/10/28/politics-in-55-words Okay, next… put this in front and that should work. I hope, if it comes out right in this comment. If it messes up after I post this, I’ll email you the same info.

Hey, Jen, I’ve not heard of Ike money. I watch very little tv, except for America’s Funniest Home Videos, I could watch them all day, and night. Haven’t noticed any ads on those. I think what’s hard is good people who do want to serve and make things better get villified right alongside the ones who are really up to no good.

Hey, Secret Agent Woman, I so apologize for not getting over to your blog lately. All my blog reading has fell behind. I have all the best intentions, then time slips away. For different reasons we all believe what we do, but if we can’t all love one another we’re missing out on some great spice in life.

Ah, my sweet MoonDustWriter, yes, I think this could apply to so much in life, to differences that crop up. I just read the poem again and it seemed different than when I wrote it yesterday. Funny, felt political yesterday. And general today. Love IS always better than the battle, GREAT words, I can feel the Ghandi in your!

Hey, Alice Audrey, you are very very astute with your comment. If we really believe that our tugging is helping the greater good, then dropping the rope may well be dropping the ball. Good things we work towards we should never give up on. Like your amazing writing you’ve been gifted with.

Yvonne – hi! You were in moderation there, so I am editing in this reply to you! Hi. You must be a G-Man fan. He does have a lot of us. Yes, I guess it all comes down to civil discourse starting with each of us, right. And I really really think people are getting nicer to each other, not the other way around. Do you think?

Dearest Jeanne, well I think of myself more in the light jazzy – folk genre, but I suppose I could slip into some rock, you wonderful ass kicker you. :)

Hey, Ellis, and I think the war’s been going on for thousands and thousands of years. Democracy, the best system so far (well other than the Garden Of Eden, but that kinda got derailed,) is only as good as the intentions of those runnning it.

Dear Sweet Mia, it was a joy making your sidebar button, I think it turned out real sweet. The only regret is that it moves down one spot a day as new buttons arrive up top. But you know you are ALWAYS prominent in my heart. You do know that, right?! Hey, a cup of joe with you anytime would make my day, no matter what our differences might be, tho I have a feeling we are much more like each other, than not.

Well, hey wonderful Steveroni, then what a wonderful farewell your sidebar button makes, it will move down a spot a day until 20 new buttons have taken its place. Maybe I’ll change it to Farewell Steveroni, yes, good idea. We all blog for different reasons, as many reasons as there are bloggers. It was a joy to meet you. I honor your journey and decision. And please know — there will always be a seat open at Jannie’s Cafe for Steve!! Peace to you too. And love.

Belinda, luckily I am on the same “side” :) as my hubs (I wrote this thinking of a friend.)But I do know couples who are at odds, must make for some interesting kitchen table conversation. Yes, indeed, divisiveness is the nature of the political beast. As Ellis points out, the was goes on.

Ah, thanks Hootin’ Anni. Maybe one day we will see that come true.

Tony — that makes me smile and reminds me all the more reason for government to get out of the way of business. But what we gonna do? I won’t be running for office, will you? :)

And there is my Hilary! Yes, joining together and working together, even listening to each other would do a lot of good. I think this post is great inspiration too for that 3rd verse of Do You Dream I’m working on. Do you dream of everyone hanging out and having fun, singing songs in peace and harmony… Yes, BB has 3 “kostume” ideas, I guess he’ll be up on a Halloween header Sunday! :) Peace and love to you.

Hey, Lynn, attack ads, I remember those. Don’t watch much tv these days. I think a lot of politicians just like to be famous and feel important. But getting along, like we all do on this blog, right-left, tall-short, skinny-plump, younger-older is a mighty fine thing indeed.

Hey, Talon, always good to let the struggle go, eh? Yes, that doggie is so so cute and cool. Very Norman Rockwell-esque I think!

Hey, Dr. J! I LOVE that!!! So so true. I guess the honest ones can go off to make a caring difference in the world in other ways. Like you do!

Polly — I’m on! In fact, I’m drinking a coffee now and I’ll pop in to your blog later to chat between 12:30 to 2:30 from the library!

I am now going to work on songs for a whole hour, non-stop, so off I go!!

Hi Dear Vodka Logic. When we see a chance at love, eh? Which is a chance every moment! When in doubt, love, eh?

Hey Vered, I’m not exactly sure if you mean we see people fighting all the time, or getting along despite our differences? The politicians are running a show yes, but as the wise people like Liara Covert would say, “The only show that matters is our own show.” Actually I just coined that. I think! :) Hmmn, a line in a song maybe? :) I think you are running a lovely show from what I know of you. Me? Need a lot of improvement. Especially in housework!

    Glenn Buttkus said,

First of all let me announce
that I am pleased and proud
to be depicted on one of your
    sterling sidebars. My smile
nearly broke my jaw when I
    finally realized, with your help,
that that sidebar was my personal
    dominion.

Oh Desk49, you get to the marrow
of things so expertly /the war goes on/
–yes, ad infinitum, blind to history,
blind to honesty, blind to love,
    hungry for profit, deceit, demagoguery,
and bullying. We cannot trust our
leaders, and yet who will take their
places if we line them up and plink
them down like ducks in a shooting
    gallery; more bozos, more politicians.
    Revolutions teach us that human
nature leads us astray, that nowhere
in this world does pure equality exit,
just the haves, the have nots, and the
    rest of us!

Your poetry sings with Funster wit
and wisdom, Jannie, and I adore
your closing lines /to sit side by side/
in some small cafe where/love is
always waiting/. That angel can be
    surreptitious, nearly invisible–except
    when we gather in Funsterland,
and let it reign and rain.
    Like the Beatles used to say;
Remember that the love you take
should be equal to the love you make.

    Jannie said,

Dear Henway. More true words spoken here today, thank you. Yes, a tug-of-war goes on when we resist love and all that it speaks. And it all starts in us.

Dear Dulce, in looking for something to inspire me for a line or two of lyric the other day, I read a quote on peace, something to the effect that peace is far better than war, and hardly as arduous. (At least I think that’s the way the quote went.) Your comment also reminds me that gloating and name-calling are not nice, all part of not getting along.

Dear Patti, yes — we let fear get in our way of common respect and communication, the way the Universe is designed to flow. And some day I’ll meet with you somewhere for coffee and / or beer, depending on how long our visit goes on! So many great friends to look forward to meeting. Tho Snaggle will not have beer or coffee, she likes herb teas. But might tipple a mixed drink! :)

Hey, Jinksy, and we could dance in rosey-posey circles! :) While singing. Fun!

Hey, Mona, coffee shared in a nice little cafe with a friend is always welcome, as long as they smell nice, or at least non-offensive. I know that may sound weird to say, but if someone had really relay bad b.o. and I had to sit too close, that would most likely dampen my Ultimate Cafe Experience. Forgive me anyone, if I offend to say so!

And look at the time — wandered away again.

Ended up only 25 minutes here at the library. Now must pick up some vampire make-up at Walgreens and pick up the Kellster to go to a party with her. Whoo-hoo!!

I thought telling you directly in a comment over at your place would suffice, yet I underestimated your busyiness these days. :) Very interesting visuals there on the politicians lined up and shot down like a carnival game.

Friko — how AWESOME it is you should pop in here. Glenn — my most high and lovely Glenn. Another of the very first friends I lured here. He is a treasure. He does inhale the finest of poems the minute they are thought up on this planet!! He’s one awesome dude. He’s retired now, and staying busy and connected. Ah, yes, cash does beckon. I get lured by it myself. But I know all will be provided always. And lessons repeating until I learn them.

Ahhh, Patricia, I am delighted you should deem this a great poem for understanding and learning. I’d love to hear what conversations come up at your meeting.

Hey, Carmen! I read once that to speak of ideas rather than people makes for better conversation. I can only imagine the ideas discussed at Ed & Lois’ table. Lively I bet! Ideas, ideals and goals, healthy debate. Nice to hear about people agreeing to disagree and still getting along.

Hey, Miss Mama Zen, I’m thinking of starring in Ghandi 2, getting into the mood to play the role. I think Communism takes away from individuality and freedom.

Hey, Lulda, D.C. seems so inviting to me with all those cool historic sites, but yes, election stuff must get old. Any way to get away from it all where you live?

Hey, Sheila — lying should be outlawed. Hey, Moses — he had that written down, didn’t he? Yes, written in stone it was. One of the Big 10 I think make an excellent life blueprint.

Hey, Chris, you are correct I don’t get into too heavy of discussions on politics. Ha! You remember my awful YouTube about interrupting the reciprocal flow of energy!? you poor thing, having to watch that. :) But hey, I gave great advise about not sticking a fork in your computer, eh?? :)

You are entirely too kind. I’ve been re-reading some of those early episodes in preparation for writing a related book, and frankly I’m embarrassed. I’m going to have to go back and fix some of them up.

    Hi Jannie

Love the photo for this poem! And where politics stands, well, I really have no comment…. I think we simply need to get our priorities straight as humanity and put love and the people first, before all else, especially money.

But on a lighter note my dear, I came over to see what is Jannie up to this Halloween and I find all these beautiful things in your avatars and header :)

So here is wishing you and your girl a very happy, and fun time tomorrow!!!!!

Meeting in the middle is such a good idea — but don’t leave the team behind. Let’s get them all together! (Gee officer, I don’t know how the bar got wrecked. After the war we all went to have a beer together ….)

Hey, Mike, nice to meet you, thanks for popping by. Steveroni shines like the stars he is made from. I’ll miss him.

Hey, Alice Audrey, you know what? So many people do not take action to make their dreams work. And You ARE. Funny how we are our own worst critics — Suzie’s House is extremely well written, and very engaging. I read 4 or 5 episodes over the weekend! Enjoyed them a LOT!!

Hey, Eric — I really loved your pumpkin design, Eric, so it was a shoe-in for a cute little button! Glad you liked it. My only regret is that each of you peeps buttons cannot stay up top forever! But each of you is tops in my heart.

Ah, J.D. You always make me laugh with your comments! Good sportmanship is what playing is all about, well yes winning is good, but when we love we REALLY win.

Dearest Evita, always a warm glow in my heart to see you here. Money? Yes, money comes and money goes, but it’s the good we do with it and loving each other that matters. You have a good Halloween?

Hi Magic Eye, well thanks. Just a few words that popped into my head one day.

Hey Quilly, beer it is! All for one, and one for all, made of the same star dust and love.

Hey, Dear Alessandra, the song… I forget what song I mentioned to you, please forgive me and remind me, and I’ll search for it.

Hey, Snaggle it seems 33% are staunchly left, 33% right, no matter what but the middle third is often the game changer for outcomes. Yep, Big Election tomorrow, eh? But I’ll be up in my tree. Hoping it might not rain!! Yes, BB was so happy he found the Christpoher Reeves wig. :)

Hey, Brian — BB thanks you so much and hopes you guys had a great one too!!

Hey, Akelamalu — thanks! Glad you liked it.

Hey, Jennifer! Ooo, after I answer this and the comments on my previous post, I am hitting the song trail. (I’m in the studio again soon.) Then will check out your post!!
