A Young Ghoul Orders Salt Water Taffy — a poem
Family, House Style, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 31 October 2010 @ 12:57 PM 38 Comments

A young ghoul applies her make-up
in the rear-view mirror while perched
on the centre console of Mom’s car.

The young ghoul alternately mans
the Haunted House, bounces, runs,
skips, laughs and cartwheels around
with her friends for 4 hours, while
the mom, altho a freak downpour
had destroyed her fluffy hairdo
during set-up, manages to flit socially,
then enjoy her 1-hour shift at the
food table, eat a bunch of excellent
assorted homemade sugary crap,
2 pieces pepperoni pizza, 8 mini packs
of gluten-free gummy bears and one
raspberry Izze (heavenly) natural soda,
then goes home to wine, a relaxing bath
and hugs with the loving car-dealer hubs,
who actually did pop in for a while at the
carnival, as he does to all school things.
He is a very very good dad and person,
like another good dad and person I know,
who’s a very talented writer, and so witty!
And here is that Jimmy last week, laying
some pine flooring in the house entry…

which looked like this a few months ago…

a house additon he built himself.
(See the railing up the stairs now!?? Yep — Jimmy’s been a busy bee.)

(End poem of inspired by photos of Kelly last week at her school carnival, and by thoughts of her awesome dad.)
She wants to be Santa for tonight (if I can find her dress) the one she wore at age 5 in this photo…

(Bought with a cute little matching hat at a post-Christmas sale for $20 when she was 4.)
Bought BIG, and has fit quite a while!
But where is it now?
Somewhere.
If she can’t be Santa tonight, there’s always her vampire plan.
[Edit. I found the dress! I found the dress!! Last place I looked -- with all the Chirstmas stuff! Whoo-hoo!!!!]
So… lots more photos to come in future happy posts.
If you liked this poem, many ghoul-and-succubus-with-a-twist-of-chocolate-and-cheese stunners can be found often over at my favorite poet’s…
Thank you!
And a very Happy Halloween to all of you — my wonderful blogging guys and ghouls.

xoxo
love, Jannie
P.S. Tuesday (possibly Wednesday) I’ll announce here via a short video who wins The 7th Letter! If you’d like a chance at winning it, I’ll still accept entries until noon Texas (Central U.S.) Time on Tuesday November 2 on that post.
Then…
I’ll climb My Other Wine-Drinking Tree to draw the winning comment from my pink John Deere cap — while singing, of course!!!
Speaking of winners… you 6 CD winners they’re not yet mailed, but will be in the next 2 to 9 days!
And a box of practically new, but mis-matched socks will be sent for Christmas to another awesome dad / blogger / human.
My other wine-drinking tree…

xoxo

Hello Talon — she looked so cute and gave a great Christmas spirit to the night!!
Hello Daisy — it was all we could do to keep up with her running from house to house. She did have fun. Hope YOU did too!!
Hello Laura!! Well, we do try to keep it light and bright around here. So glad you could pop in. I bet your girls had fun tonight.
Hey Lancie — Kelly let me eat her Twizzlers and Dots, yay!! Did you eat lots of sugary crap? Did you go as a marathon runner?? 40s eh? I think it was about 70 here.
Hey, Theresa, I tend to land on squirrels when I fall out of my tree. Then they pelt nuts at me. And steal my wine — not fun!

Ummm…I did eat some sugary crap…mostly the stuff that was coated in chocolate… If I eat the chocolate sugary crap in the dark, though…doesn’t that count as dark chocolate??? (I’m pretty sure it does…)

Hey, Alice Audrey, and grew and grew and grew.
What an amazing and wonderful thing to ramble in cyberspace, tho maybe not as interesting for my readers as it is for me to ramble.
Hey, Desk 49, did you have any Nons, Morgones and Halflins at your door??
Hi Barbara! I’ve been thinking of you and meaning to get over to your blog. Yes, we had a great time — and hope you did too! BB is sleeping off all his candy now.
Hey, Davina — Kitty is a curious guy for sure. Yes, quite a wild day at the olde carnival, and luckily no sugar hangover for me.
Lance! Happy November indeed. And if you eat chocolate or anything in the dark it waives the calories, whoo-hoo!!

Halloween, the out hallows and in hallows
have fled back to their tombs, graves,
churches, malls, garages, basements,
and tree houses for another year.
We had our bowl of Snickers and
Reeses ready, but nary a treater
knocked on our happy door. Most
folks these days take their kids
only to school carnivals, and malls,
and gated communities, and
cul de sacs they know. Now we
have all that damned chocolate to
consume! Poor us.
Your posting is rich, like chocolate
mousse, whipped with Jannie frenzy
and stirred with Funster spoons.
Try not to fall out of your tree
while pulling the mystery name
of the receiver of the 7th Letter.
Daddy Jim works on while the rest
of us play at working. He is like
the energizer bunny on steroids.

Santa sounds like a pretty mild character. Guess Kelly got Ghouled out at the school thing. I used to like the the haunted house/ Ghost Walk sbows the kids did. Now here we have Bog Fright Night in hay wagons n ghouls jump out of the dark at folks. This kind of stuff always makes me laugh! (Not the desired reaction…) Haven’t been to one of those things in awhile.
Hope the candy supply is plentiful.
I don’t know why when you mention “wine drinking tree” I picture some one pouring a bottle into the soil near the tree, which sucks it up thru straw-like roots n burps! (??)

Hey Dearest Lynn, isn’t BB just the cutest as Superman!? He was tossed up between that and an angel. I told him he’s already an angel.
Hey Dearest Hilary, Yep, that Jim is bleeding blinking wonderful! He’s thinking of adding on a new wing here called the Hilary Melton-Butcher Extension, an apartment just for YOU whenever you may visit. And if we’re already in Canada when you visit, we’ll be sure to have the HMBE at our house up there too!! Yes, BB is a dear, out mopping (and mapping) our floors now while I answer comments and then immerse in songs today. Awesome you like my constant little changes here — it is FUN twiddling, creating and adding. Cool on you adding that link, I saw the photo a few months ago and thought it was very clever! We are all on a picnic at Grande Jatte. Oh, you’ll see me out and about too when I take some breaks from “Everybody’s Beautiful” & “Do You Dream,” verse3!
Hey, Vered — I only seem to drink those at the school carnival, my once yearly sugar coma day.
Glenn – ah nary a treater. That happens. Hope you won’t od on chocolate. Yes, falling out of the tree later today is NOT on my to-do list.
Well, when Jim’s not watching Fox News at home he’s building! And he does take naps on the weekends.
Hey, Dear Betsy — Kelly has so many talents I’ve lost count. I love your photo of strawberry shortcake now as much as I did last summer when you posted it and your recipe. Love your button, and love you!
Hey, Patricia — what did you hear exactly? Me drinking and slurping from my Starbucks cup of wine?
The min-panic for 3 minutes when we couldn’t find Kelly? Or just the awesome fun it was. ? LOL on the pocket dial!!
Hey, Joaquin, and awesome YOU!! Um, my young ghoul’s stash is disappearing yes — some of them by her, but most by me.
Hope you are well, my friend!?
Hey Secret Agent Woman, the cat was hoping to head for his favorite squirrel but the squirrel was having none of that action. Kitty gets squirrel chastisements regularly. Kitty does like Kahlua, tho, scarfed back a ton for Day Of The Dead yesterday.
hey, Dearest SuziCate — what?! You mean you’re not still a kid??!!
Did you guys have fun?? And so great to see your shining sweetness here, as always!!
Dearest KB — me too!!!! I so rocked as a super-star mother for finding that dress. And took some cute pix to post one day!!
Deaerst Snaggle, we had a lot of “Merrry Christmases” with our “Happy Halloweens” the other night! It was so fun. And her Halloween manners, please and thank yous this year were so so impressive. She’s growing up! Bog Friday night sounds AWESOME!! They used to give haunted boat rides down at teh lake and head hunters would pop up out of the water! Oh yes, lots candy. And a few great bottles of wine for the tree to soak up!
Hey, Dearest Sheila, I do have video of whiney Kelly too, but will most likely not subject you all to that until she’s full grown and won’t disown me for sharing. Also — dancing Kelly, musical Kelly, etc. etc. It goes on and on.

Dear Hilary, what kind of decor would suit you, my dear?? In the HMBE, that is? Rococo, or more minimilist? Yes, I know! My new song, still tweaking a bit on that! But please feel free to post it in any stage. Just a simple tune. And all I have to work my head around is the guitar on the chorus, as it changes up from the verse. Good work today, tho!!
My darling Jennifer Susannah Devore!!! Happy Election Day to YOU!!! Have not watched any results yet. Fingers crossed to get some good peeps in who will cut spending. And of course, dying for a change in Nevada! I like your button, all sparkly like you, but the next one will be even cuter!! Milles bises.
Darling Sara, well God didn’t Christen me Funster for nuthin!!:).
. Yes, please, please , please come over here ANY time you want!!! We can drink wine both in the tree and out of it, and watch Jim put down floors and up crown moldings and such. Kitty was so excited about me setting up for my big Letter Winner Draw!!! Then he sipped a White Russisan.

Halloween is not a widespread event celebrated in Oz. Funny, that. Some people buy candy expecting trck-or-treaters and receive few or none. The result is stories about eating up their own candy. Nice to experience Halloween in different places. One can have fun in any circumstance. Everything is a choice.
