Just A Little Song I Wrote About Sailing

Songwriting | Posted by Jannie on 24 January 2011 @ 3:49 PM 21 Comments

What a GREAT day so far! I took The Child to school, then came home to totally clean off the back deck, do ALL my dishes, fold a WHOLE load of laundry, continue organizing books, and record this song for YOU.  And I did it ALL sans makeup!

EDIT…..  PLEASE FORGIVE…

Upon further listening, I really want to improve the vocal for this song, so I took down the Youtube.

Will re-record again and re-post video one day.

Thanks for understanding.

The lyrics…

Verse1.
sail a child like a ship out on the sea
anchor her with love, then set her free
hear the splashing of the spray
as she goes laughing on her way
sail a child to sea.

Verse 2.
sail a child and your heart around the world
tiny, shiny angel dancing girl
stand upon the windy shore
where so many have stood before
sail her ’round the world

Bridge:
can it really be that little speck out on the sea is your daughter?
you knew there’d come a day when she would sail away but it seems too soon
oh, your little baby on the water
pulled away by love and tides and moons

Verse 3.
sail a child wherever she will dream
far away on waves of blue and green
trust the stars to lead her way
and sail her safely home one day
sail a child who dreams

sail a child like a ship out on the sea…
sail a child and your heart around the world…
sail a child wherever she may dream…

sail a child away
sail a child away
sail a child away

Now, I suppose I’ll go wash my face and get ready for my Hobby Lobby run. Put on a little makeup.

Are you wearing makeup today?
Do you wear it regularly?

“Pulled away by love and tides and moons.” :) )) You’ve been quite productive AND creative today, Jannie. I have no make-up on and I do not wear make-up regularly, although I feel prettier when I do. “Sail a child away” makes me smile and ache at the same time. Lovely.

“oh, your little baby on the water
pulled away by love and tides and moons” — Awww. Beautiful song Jannie. Why do they have to grow up so fast? It really is the bitter-sweet bit of being a parent. It’s fun/exciting to watch them discover their independence and the larger world, but ultimately it leads them away from us.

On a lighter note. I do wear makeup. Gobs of it :)

Love the lyrics, and it’s so true. It’s always hard letting your child go, but they come back again. :)

Another fine set of lyrics, that
stand in for poetics, as your
    heart and emotional timbre
    shake the tambourine of time
    ever so gently, sadly, looking
out over the sea with matriarchal
eyes, seeing the Pea, the wonder
child, the only child, moving away,
out of mother’s reach, out amongst
the sharks and monsters of the
    deep, yet the precognition spins
true, and the song wails on, as
    the guitar apes the heartbeats
caught first in your throat, then
    in ours.

By the by, Jannie of Funsterment,
I finally did receive my wonderful
book of poetry, and lovely hand-
    written card, which will become
the book marker for the poetics.
Thank you so much. Why do your
poetry books still look brand new?
Mine get all dog eared, bent over,
    roughed up. Big mystery.

What a wonderful song, Jannie. I loved this one. Great lyrics! As for makeup, I very rarely wear it. I mean, maybe twice a year, I’ll put on a little mascara and lip gloss. That’s it. It’s just not my style. :D

That sounds like a really good day, Jannie Muffin. And thank you for sharing that wonderful song!

I wear a touch of foundation and mascara – that’s it. Takes about 1 minute to do. :) I always forget lipstick, but carry it with me all the time.

As for makeup, it depends on what I’m doing and where I’ll be going.

Hi Jannie .. love the song .. and the words .. “you knew there’d come a day when she would sail away but it seems too soon” it certainly seems too soon! My god-daughter is 18 – and she happened after I came back from South Africa … all a bit of a shock to think of it like that … the years rush by.

Make-up covers up the bags – huge ones since all the caring time I’ve done .. never used to have them, never wore make up .. but now – just need the ‘gobs’ as Aimee says!

Hope the run was fun .. cheers from a greyish English afternoon in January .. and big hugs to all .. Hilree xoxoxo

I just wear sunscreen because I think my skin is so beautiful without make up. Only wear a little makeup when I am performing or giving a lecture.

    Jannie, this song is beautiful!

It tugged at my heartstrings and I don’t even have children. :) SO lovely.

As for the makeup, (BTW…how can you finish such a WONDERFUL post where you shared this WONDERFUL song, with talk about makeup?! :-D ), I hardly ever wear it because I work from home. I just can’t be bothered, and plus, cleanup at the end of the day is a breeze. I’m so used to not putting it on now, I don’t give it a second thought to go out without it.
