Your Deepest Desire
Flash Fiction 55, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 25 January 2011 @ 2:38 PM 30 Comments

When you were four your deepest desire was a kitten.
Boy, did you want that little kitty above! Remember!? But he belonged to someone else.
Wasn’t it great when you got Kit-Kat the next year!?

He’s still an awesome cat! He and you growed real good.
Then your deepest desire became a baby sister, which didn’t happen. Sorry.
(Supermarket check-out baby you wanted! Her mom wasn’t quite ready to give her away.)

I hope you’ll have bunches and bunches of kids of your own some day.
Being Grannie Jannie will be a great gig, I’m sure. The best.
NOW… your deepest desire is to be an actress.
And I say “Why not?! ”
Why the heck not, Kelly? Go for it. Your dad and I will be there with you every step of the way.
(She made that little commercial up on the spot herself.)
(The clip is one I think we could use as part of an audtion tape to be submitted before an agent will even consider looking at her.)
What do y’all think of this child acting business?
Any advice for a possible future “stage mom?”

I don’t know about working kids, may be they loose their childhood sooner, or may be not. But she is so determined.
Good luck, and cute pics.

I remember when my older son wanted a little brother. Then he got one and was so disappointed that the baby wasn’t able to play as soon as he was born.

Adorable pictures, Jannie! And I say if being an actress is what Kelly wants then she should go for it. Cute commercial.
I signed up at gravatar. Now let’s see if I did it right and it works…

Is your cat named Rufus, too???? It’s a good cat name. In fact, I thought we should have named our third born that name, as well…
Act on Kelly!! You are a STAR!!!

That’s sweet! I have a cat, she’s feral. She is my first cat, and I am her first person.
It’s too long a story, but she’s been to the Vet once, and TWO of them have scars to prove it. She (as I suspect you are) is not one to be trifled with!
Honest, I’m not, ouch!, trifling, ouch!!

Our deepest desire
can we let them run free
can we do what we wont
does it matter to thee
can we sing a dumb song
on the white house lawn
will the guards not shoot us
in the cool light of dawn
can we fly a airplane over NY
as a tourist it we can see
or will they shoot us down
with a rocket or three
Our deepest desire
What would we hope to gain
If we let them out
Could we handle the strain
Your post is called
Your deepest desire
Could we handle the payment
Or burn in hells fires

Love them as they grow and dream all their dreams.
My advice Jannie – let her grow up. I have a drama queen. We had people tell us to send her here and there – we didnt.
She will be the youngest performer in Phantom of the Opera this spring at our local college (she’s in H.S.). She is good enough to do Broadway but she has other dreams (they will include drama and singing).
What she did do was alot of classes and was the lead in most local theatrical productions – she still loves theater. I do too cuz I get to work backstage…
Enjoy all of it with her my talented friend

Dearest More Than Lovely ALESSANDRA! Yes, I guess if it were to become more work than fun what would the sense in it be. Yes, she thinks it is her calling. Then again, when she grows up she also wants to be a coffee barrista, work at an animal shelter, and sell discounted plastic plant pots. We’ll see how it goes!
Dearest More Than Lovely LYNN, yes indeed. Going for dreams is always good, I think. Why not, eh? And funny, she said yesterday that her dad will never have to work again when she gets rich from acting. Whoooohoooo! I bet Jim will be just fine with that.
Dearest More Than Lovely SECRET AGENT WOMAN! Yes, there is that, eh? How many years between your two? Today she vascillates between wanting a sister, and having all our attention to herself.
Dearest More Than Lovely DAISY-WITH-SUCH-A-GLORIOUSLY-SHINING-NEW-GRAVATAR… whoooo-hooooo. It looks GREAT!!! Puts a new smile in my heart to see your daisy, and will every time I see it pop in. Yep, I say we’ll go for it, her acting dream.
Dearest More Than Lovely LANCE! Are you talking about Cameron RUFUS Ekum? Cameron Lance Ekum? Cameron Winchester Ekum? Wait, I think he must be a Cameron James Ekum? Just a wild Jannie guess.
Dearest More Than Lovely DR.J! Just as long as you don’t trifle with me with a long long long needle — I hear you doctors are like that. OR, please never tease me with trifle, the really whipped-creamy kind, then not even let me have a taste!
Congrats on your cat. How long have you had her?
Dearest More Than Lovely DENISE. We have 2 dogs as well as Kit-Kat. I love the dogs, but please don’t tell them the cat is so much easier to maintain. Cats and dogs are great. Some likes snakes as a pet, but snakes are not for us. And especially not on a plane.
Dearest More Than Lovely DESK 49, AKA ELLIS!! Wow, deep poem. Now what’s that about singing a song on the Whitehouse lawn? Did I miss some news story of late? I didn’t watch the State of The Union last night. Did you? But back to your comment. Yes, sometimes our deepest desire, when we get what we want we are not happy. balance is the key, I guess?
Dearest More Than Lovely MOONDUSTWRITER. Wise lovely words, yours. At one time I told her, well when you’re 18 you can be an actress if you still want. But she’s been asking again (and again and again,) about her headshot and audition tape. So I figure, what’s to lose by at least putting a bunch of short clips together or her various talents and submitting them. And take it one step at a time, as it (if it) comes.) Which reminds me, I need to check that site to see how long the video is to be. Your daughter rocks, obviously! She must be burning with the performing fires. Did I ever tell you my Jim had acting aspirations in Hawaii? He was an extra in a bunch of Magnum PIs! Yep.
Dearest More Than Lovely SNAGGLE!! Our lovely cat invention last night came to snuggle beside me on the cold night. He asks for a meal by sitting up on his little eating table (up from the dogs) and looks at me with those big big wide eyes of his. yes, I like your idea, she is allowed to changed her mind on it as much as she wants! I like that Snaggle — thanks!!

Little is more enchanting than the Entertainment World. Despite the odd pothole hither and thither, ’tis an ever-changing atmosphere with new venues, new folks and new experiences every few months. As one whom finds solace in such change, and the day-to-day workplace sheer horror, I can’t say enough about Entertainment! With a conscientious, protective and nuturing (not too mention fellow Ham) Mum at her side, then “Why Not?” indeed?!

Find a good teacher, some compassionate soul
that will nurture and shape that blazing pea
talent. As an ex-actor, I assure you that
high school, college, and community
theater plays were much more fun
than endeavoring to “do it for a living”.
The fun goes right out of the experience
when food and rent are in the equation.
But some good acting teachers are already
plugged in and hooked up with decent
talent agents; for it is a morass of deceit
and sad results when you set your child
adrift with strangers who want to make
a buck out of her talent, and don’t give
a rip about her heart or soul.
Having said that, I must say that she
has been a “performer” most of her
life, and in you she has the model,
the impetus, the motivation she needs,
besides the wisdom and nurturing
already imbedded and extant. Let her
study dramatics, voice, dance, and
and an instrument. If you get lucky,
she will become successful and
take care of you and Jim in your
old age, move to Hawaii, and let
Jim act in whatever TV series is
shooting there at the time.

My MORE than ever lovely Jennifer Susannah Devore!! Mega meaga gold stars for you on this comment. Applause and adulation from Funsterment CEO Jannie!! I love how you have accented the positiveness of the Entertainment World, the spots on Leno, the fun, the general swept-up-ed-ness in the sheer joy of art creation. bravo, my dear!! I shall have a good few sips of wine in your honor at dinner tonight!!
Oh, and AWESOME to know about the link fix. Excellent. I WILL go to your FB page on my next visist to you and delight in it I’m sure.
Well, hi my always more than lovely, interesting and intuitively deep Alice Audrey. Yes!! She has done some classes but not lately. She took a bunch of Kids Acting camps and such up until about 2 years ago. Will be fun to share pix and video of that stuff. Her first was when she was 4. She enjoyed them all, but at about age 6 and having a bit of a hard time with some life adjustment she was no longer anjoying the classes. I’ll ask her if she might want to cut out a gymnastics day to get involved in a play again. It all costs money. Oh yeah, and she was the LEAD in her class play 2 years ago. So cute, sassy and sweet in it. She played a boy — Hans!
Ahhhh, my ever lovely and sensationaly ass-kickingly nutso Mama Zen, I was wondering this morning when I’d see you pop in here again. We have not been on each others’ blogs as much in our earlier daze. But that’s okay. We know how it can be to keep up with it all. But it is fun! And thanks yes, she’s a cutie!
Hey, Glenn! I think all she needs is a director, maybe? Life being her teacher. It is WONDERFUL to get your input on this, with all your acting daze to draw upon. I told her I will be with her on each set, each moment (physically anyway — as I’d bring my laptop and blog my ass off,)
She’s been taking piano for over 2 years and is doing great at it! One of the clip we’ll incluede is some of her piano work. I trust that as in all things, there are excellently good people to work with — and the ones who leave us with a yucky feeling, well, let’s just say, we shan’t be having them over for tea and crumpets.
I like the idea of dance. She has been asking to go back. So maybe if Big Jim can swing another monthly payment. But hell, next year she’s off to public school so there’ll be $800 a month freed up! And the following year Big Jim, at 70, will take his deferred Social Security!! Whooo-hoooo. Thanks God he’s got his mama’s genes. He’ll be around until he’s at least 98!

I thought I detected a bit of polish.
I can’t remember all the plays we produced. The last one was Alice in Wonderland, for which I created a new character and wrote all the dialogue. Only the senior class took part, unlike most of our productions in which everyone from toddler to adult had a part.

Someday I’ll get a new movie with sound cam to show you that There’s a song about a girl n wanting to act, coffee House, that I play sometimes which is where that thought comes from. Original by a local, Gary Shreger, learned in MetroWest of Boston growing up.

Hi ALICE AUDREY! I bet your writing for your character was AWESOME!!
Hi CLOUDIA in Hawaii! You are so welcome. Glad I took the pix to share.
Hi SNAGGLE!! Well, just Googled your Gary Shrager and see he’s a Saturday Course Director at Milton Academy K-8. Says… “Gary’s random interests include juggling, geometry, geodesic domes, and playing strange musical instruments.” Sounds like quite the guy!!
Hi BRIAN!! Agreed on all! Kitty will show up again tomorrow in the 55.
Hi G-MAN!! The only thing I’d change is have her look into the camera directly when she’s speaking. Otherwise — awesome, that clone of mine.
Hi HILARY!! Yes, her bacon love has caught on with many here. I’m in the mood for it now too. But have a cooked chicken to partake of after I post this. Then to that book organization! She is welcome to upstage me any day, she is already far beyond anything I can do! Was born that way it seems. Ahhhh, I saw that comment Luv message you mention at another blogger’s. So I guess they’ve updated. Thanks for the clue-in!! Goes for warm wonderful mesquite grilled chicken now…
