4 Dogs And A Man, Plus A Lovely Lady In Wisteria — a poem
Photography | Posted by Jannie on 23 March 2011 @ 2:02 PM 24 Comments

Kalyani and I were strolling
by the river yesterday
when I spied an unusual
fivesome ambling our way
Like lightning to my camera
my fingers they did fly
and holy cowabunga
I caught them smiling by!!

“Evidence?” the man joked
as our walking ships did meet
“Ha, ha, ha,” I answered
(That guy seemed pretty sweet!)
Not at all the type of bloke
who’d supoena me into court
for taking photos without asking.
Nope. He was a right friendly sort.

Will he ever read this poem
and see these photos here?
If he does, and emails
we’ll ask him out for beer.
That Tom or Bob or Harold
Or Mikey, or Dave or Lou,
We hope he’s having fun today
and his dogs are happy too.

And Kalyani by the wisteria about 5 minutes before we saw the man and 4 dogs — yes at my favorite trail spot!

Jannie,
First of all, your photography is getting better and better. I loved how you took the pictures of the man and dogs — first from a distance, then at meeting, and lastly as they moved away.
If this man does not get to read this poem, I feel regretful for him. It’s delightful and dances with its words. I always enjoy rhyming poems because they’re so much fun to read aloud. And a Funster poem is the best!
I can see why this is your favorite trail to walk. It looks so tempting with the river? on one side and the trees with their bright new green leaves on the other. Sigh!!! Wish I could be there. While it’s pretty here, everything is coated in pollen. If you step outside for long, you become one of the “green” people and not in a good way.

How cool is that? How does he get them to all walk together like that? Neat pictures, Jannie. Wisteria–oh so pretty!

Hi Dearest Sara, well I was just clicking away and hoping for the best. Got lucky on these I think! Hey, I bet I might see him on the trail again, tho is was afternoon, and I ususally go for my walk in the early morning. Still, you never know. I oughta carry a business card on me, eh? Give him one when next we meet and tell him to search “4 dogs and a man.” I wish you could be on the trail with me too. Maybe one day in the flesh you will be and in the spirit until then.
Hey, Lovely Daisy! I tell ya — this new camera has me all happy, and seeing with new eyes indeed. Those 4 were just proud and pleased to be stepping along like that. He must be a good trainer. I took more wisteria pix too, to post one day, maybe alongside winter pix of the same.
Hey Dearest Lovely Secret Agent Woman — I was quite amazed at them too. if I see him again I’ll be sure to tell him how we are all amazed at how inline and calm those 4 are! Maybe they’ve been best in show somewhere.

All Irish Setters too-
Interesting way to walk alot of dogs…. but I’m just wondering how the middle two dogs pee without hitting the ones next to them…
Aha, the overhead artsy pagoda thing is for crawly plants! Lucky you have things growing… We have snow growing again… Looks warm without those sleeves. Very nice pics! Cute poem too-

I was trying to decide if they were on a leash? We have a local dog walker who does 5 at a time, but they are out front of her in a row…hmmm now I must ponder
Fun poem and rhyme and great picture. Plum trees are just starting now. Crocus are still going strong and quite a few folks have daffodils, mine were eaten by the slugs. Some sun today but then again lots of rain…
Thank you for sharing, photos lovely – good eye

Yup, he had to be a trainer. What
you witnessed does not occur in
nature. Two of the dogs had very
gray muzzles, implying that they
are all related, sons, daughters,
mothers, fathers. Great shots!
Your poem was snazzy too.
What fun it must be to be you.

Okay, not only do I love what you’ve written, and the pics (especially the dogs!) but that last pic of Kailani? OMG stunning shot!

Ahhhh, you all are too too nice and sweet and kind.
But I LOVE it!!!
K — I really hope I run into them again. And I bet I WILL!!
KALYANI!! whooohoooo. You looked absolutley STUNNING. Can’t wait to hear about today and the chocolate making — and take more photos of you some time soon. Nope, he hasn’t hauled my ass to court yet.
Hilary!! Yes, I had never noticed the wisteria before, it’s just everywhere at that place, Lou Neff Point. Please come over soon and we’ll walk there!!
Jo! And now are you back in bed. It’s 8:50 here, so that makes it 2:50 a.m.? Oh, I so wish we did not have to sleep — there is so much going on in life to waste 8 hours missing out. But until God designs a better system — I guess sleep we do.
Snag! Irish Setters, that’s it!! I wasn’t quite sure. LOL on the peeing. maybe they[’re all girls and don’t lift legs. ? Actually, upon looking closer at the first pic, I think maybe the 4 are joined wiht a pole. Yes, it was near 80 yesterday afternoon, madness. Yuck. I like it cooler. But it’s way way better than 100!
Dearest Talon, wistful for wisteria. Ahhh, you need a little extra blast of snow this time of year to make those tulips really start poppint!!
Paatricia — Yes hot sure on the leash. ooooo, plum trees! I like plums. And prunes. And grapes. And raisins. The raisins especially in rice pudding. Darn those slugs! I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully the rest of your flowers will come up happily.
Vered — beautifully non-litigious.
Hi Dearesr Lynn, yes, it’s greening up lovely indeed. I do like the shade as compared to the bare branches for my delicate complexion.
And I was so happy all 3e pix I snapped turned out so great!!~
Hi Glenn, yes, I enjoy seeing the personalityes of the dogs just from that photo when they were close. I think he had the 4 on a pole!
Hi Claudia — he’ll be so pleased to be so famous with us all in the blogosphere.
Hi Sheila! I took more of her too! She’s is so photogenic indeed. And lovely inside as well as out. I do liek her shorter hair, so 30s divenely elegant!

Jannie, that was an absolutely delightful poem. Weren’t those Irish setters beautiful? I might have been inspired to write a poem had I seen them!
What a beautiful walk you have there along the river…and to have those benches placed right there by the blooming wisteria! I just love the scent of that. I would park myself and never leave ( as long as someone would bring me wine and food ) until the last blossom remained!

Oh, thanks Carmen, just a little string of words that flew out of me.
I would bring you wine and food until the last wisteria blossom faded. I sure would!!!!!

That was fun. Technically, if he’s out in public he can’t say no, but he could certainly scowl. What great dogs!

Alice Audrey! Did I mention kalyani and I saw them,. all 5 the other day again. Seriously? You can photograph anyone in public? I never knew that? I wonder if it’s illegal to post the pix, as I did? Or maybe it varies by State.
