“You” Song-In-Progress mp3 For YOU
Family, Nova Scotia, Songwriting | Posted by Jannie on 13 June 2011 @ 12:58 PM 37 Comments

Once there was a very handsome, very artistic man
who bought an old cabin on the beach in Nova Scotia,
remodeled it, lived in it a while, and sold it in 1987.
In 1989, a woman who moved to Nova Scotia was out
bicycling, saw the beach house and fell in love with it.
Soon she met the man who built it and they married.

Eventually they were blessed with a daughter, “The Pea,” as in Sweet Pea.

Last week in a Most Excellent Recording Studio the woman
sang and played guitar for the rough draft of “You,” the song
she wrote for the very handsome, very artistic man she loves.
Here are the lyrics…
“YOU”
Verse 1:
You came along at last with a song
I waited to hear forever
You standing there with October in your hair,
Your eyes like the ocean,
The bluest blue, eyes I fell into
Verse 2.
You took my heart in your hands with your art
Then we talked for hours
You walked me home when the moon was our own
And the stars started singing
The way they do when dreams come true
Bridge:
You put your arm ’round my shoulder
And then, I reached up for your hand
Everything changed in that moment forever
The way love had planned for me and you
Verse 3.
You here with me in a house near the sea,
The Child upstairs dreaming
You say my name and my heart tells my brain
To hold you forever
Here like this, lost inside a kiss with you
You, you, you….
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The woman feels brave enough today to email you
the free “You” basic song outline, with flaws and all.
Just leave a comment here and “she’ll” send you it.
Nice outline of the song. Perhaps you can add it as a bonus track. Not sure if drums would be needed, but defitinitely a piano would be a great addition.
Hi Robin — I’m hearing about all these blue eyes guys!
You are so sweet to pop in.
Snag — I am lucky, yes! I must never forget that. Hope you had a fun shower and great dreams during your nap.
Hey, G, thanks. Drums can be as subtle as desired, a sweet jazz kit, soft and light might do the trick. So much fun to create!
Hi, Natalia, thanks a lot. Hope you got the Mp3 okay?
Gotta get back to songland while the house is nice and quiet!
That’s sweet, Jannie!
Sort of the good version of Rod Stewart’s view of marraige in which he said, “Rather than get married, I’ll just find a woman I can’t stand and buy her a house!”
Hi Dearest Lynn. Jim does miss the house. He regrets selling it, but he was living in Hawaii, and moving to Texasnat the time — it was complicated. I’ve been in it a couple times, the new folks have done another addtion. Wonderful spot!!
Hey, Sheila, yes, Rosie and I look quite alike. She’s cuter, tho!! Kelly was 19 months old in those pix, and that was the only one she was smiling in — was not digging the photo session that day.
Hey, Brian, it will be exciting to see it come together whoohoo with tinkly touches, and such. It’s fun writing songs, and was high time Jim had his own!!
Hey, Alice Audrey, well I fell in love with his art before I ever knew he existed. But I actually first laid eyes on him in his mother’s doorway. And it was in October. He became my landlord, and I ran off with him here to Texas. Walking down the street, eh? How cute! Did you speak to him that first day?
Dr. J! Oh, that’s hilarious what Rod Stewart said. He’s been through a string of beauties, married most of them.
And he’s SUCH a talent!! His jazz standards album is sweeeet.
Hi, Ayala — thanks!! Now, I best git on over to G-Mail and send y’all the Mp3!!
I was walking down the street with my friend, whom he knew. He recognized her and stopped to talk, then followed us to a coffee house where we argued over the nature of Ray Bradbury’s writing. Eleven years later to the day we went back to that coffee house, and the same book was sitting right behind us.
Patricia — I SO had to smile at that iPhone part, as I don’t know how to use my iTunes part of mine either. I really need to set it up. Would be so much easier than listening to my tunes-in-progress in my e-mail. I’ll get Kelly to help me — she’s good with technology. All the kids are these days.
Alice Audrey — that is amazing and astounding and so so so so cool about your meeting and the Bradbury book. I bet he was stricken by your major awesomeness right away!
COFFEE TIME!!!
Jannie,
Ooooooh… Where shall I start?
I just love the photos in this post. I love the picture of your sister, niece, and Kelly. I just love the picture of you and Jimmy. I really love the picture of Kelly (smiling in front of the beautiful house).
I know how much hard work goes into building a house (since we built ours ourselves in 1998-9). It must have been hard for him to let the house go after all his hard work. It’s so cool how you two met, though. Hubby and I met at work. He started working there in February (1996) and I had started in December (1995). His desk was next to mine. We later learned that our boss had put his desk next to mine on purpose. Yes, he was matchmaking for us. Isn’t that funny?
My Hubby has blue eyes too. They can be very intense blue. Sometimes they get blue-gray. Sometimes they even get bluish-green. Usually, though, they are very blue. Like very beautiful marbles. A complex hue of blue.
I love, love, love the song and can’t wait to hear it! I am so excited for your second CD. The sooner the better!
Hi.
As I type I’m istening back to the crazy 6 minutes, 16 seconds recording I did just NOW whilst drinking coffee, playing guitar, singing and kissing the hubby off to work. With the last lingering strains of “Evergreen” ringing in my brain…
pauses to slug coffee…
I love how all the blue eyed guy stories are coming out of the blogwork, blogwood? woodblog? Hey!! I bet you wondered where your wood shipment was from last winter!!?
But back to your comment…
It WAS hard for him to let the beach house go. But you know what’s really really kinda cool? When he sold it, it was the MOST MONEY, as in highest price ever paid, for a house in his county, Lunenburg, to date then. EVER. Like $275,000 I think. He’s a true artistic pioneer. YAY, JIMMY!!!!!!
Oh I LOVE your former boss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If ever you see him, please tell him thanks!!
And when you next talk to Tori Amos, tell her I love her too! (But I love YOU more, don’t tell her that. She is the sensitive type and I ought not hurt her feelings. )
toodle-doodle!
Jannie of the non-ticketed hills (times infinity to the nth degree),
I thought I detected some Evergreen. LOVE IT!
Yes, lots of blue eye stories coming out of the blog-work indeed!
Alas, I wasn’t going to say anything but I did wonder about the wood shipment. Luckily we managed to get through the winter. Sadly, we had to use the furnace (propane) to make it through, though. We were not woodstove-only this year. Unfortunately, propane is expensive. We are currently keeping our eyes peeled for a new place to get local wood from. The place we’d been using didn’t have it this year. This threw us for a loop. Once the wood from the year before was used up, it was furnace time. (Plus, it was a cold winter).
Wow… That house must be most awesome! That Jimmy is a hard-working man!
I haven’t seen Former Boss in a long time but if I see him, I will give him your regards. LOL
Don’t worry. I won’t say anything to hurt Tori’s feelings.
We’ll let you know where we’re planning on going next week for an Open Mike — hopefully we can all hang then! And yes — I know — sang the song from memory last night, no cheat sheet — whooohooo, I’m progressing.
