If Love Has A Library
Poetry | Posted by Jannie on 23 August 2011 @ 1:57 PM 62 Comments

If love has a library of every book you’ll ever read
starting with great-uncle Cromagnon Mike’s hunting
yarns passed down to cousins Billy Bob and Billie Sue
in caves where bear flesh sustained the future you,
through the years when printing presses clacked
where you apprenticed in growing up and growing
towards museums about men walking on the moon
and men stirring glowing cauldrons of binary code,
all the way to the final pages your eyes will read
in print so enormous you think of it as Jupiter now,
consider my name swirled into each chapter’s art
and my heart the light that’s shining on each word.

This is my post for Open Link Night, Week 6 over at the dVerse Poetry blog.
Got poems?? Check dVerse Out!
Photos from our recent day at NASA in Houston.
THANKS for commenting I’ll be over soon to read your poem, whooohooo.

I like the nostalgia of these lines:
“through the years when printing presses clacked
where you apprenticed in growing up and growing
towards museums about men walking on the moon
and men stirring glowing cauldrons of binary code”

Hey, Special ones, all words read, appreciated and filed under “Awesome People Who Came, Read and Commented.”
And for the record, I had NO IDEA what to say in the last couple lines, but out they finally popped and I hope it ended okay.
Next week, a different style perhaps? Maybe only 28 words.

As a poet you give words their freedom,
and like your other child, or ours, you
no longer can control them; they have
to inhabit their individual half lives.
Your poetry just keeps improving, and
part of that is talent, which you have
in hearts, and part is practice, just like
you and the blue guitar. Love the line:
/men stirring cauldrons of binary code./

The fact that the final lines “just happened” punctuate this piece in all its personal beauty. Terrific images.

Jannie, I’m officially a fan. Not only do you visit and comment with insight, your writing is wonderful. I can tell you that the line, “My heart shining on each word” speaks to me of devotion to the education of your kids through REAL BOOKS, not something off a Kindle. I raised my daughter on reading and she’s continued on the path. It’s helped her even in art school… she named one of her multi-media pieces, “Girl With A Pill Earring,” and used outdated psych meds to create jumpropes and flowers, all the while reminding folks to read the novel, “Girl With a Pearl Earring.” Loved this post, loved it! Amy
Two happy poems to make up for that last rough read…

very sweet, very pretty. the colors of the photos even have that soft, loving focus. the history of human civilization, including imagination, seen in the faces of your beautiful children, not the props in the background:)

Ahhhh, your words are like sweet mist in this Texas record-breaking heat. Read each and inhaled them like air after pearl diving (for a girl’s earring,) for 3 minutes.
Thank you!!
