The Man With Sunset Eyes…
Poetry | Posted by Jannie on 20 September 2011 @ 12:36 PM 60 Comments

he who’s been shaking poems into the seaweed all day,
is oblivious to the splotch of professional photographers
rolling their expensive eyes at each other over the little
point-and-shoot he made from laughter and airplane wings.
The man hoists the ocean, clouds and pelicans into position,
fluffs up the sky’s pillows, billows his cape, and raises his wand
to pause the breath of heaven’s violins a moment for you.
~~~ end of poem
Our esteemed blogging buddy, the lovable, caring and fun-filled Dr. J. of Calorie Lab, snapped that through his Serengeti sunglasses on Florida’s Cedar Key one New Year’s Eve. And won a photo contest with it!
Dr. J. flies a Cherokee Arrow 200 for fun.
Dearest Pat in the hat Hatt. So, did ya??? Get along to another blog, and another, and such?
Bet ya did. (Eventually.)
I plan to later. Nice to have such a big garden of poetry blogging friends to flit about the posies in.
Jennifer Susannah Devore! “Mother Mother Ocean, I have heard you call. Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was 2 feet tall.” The Parrot Head may have let hiself be misguided politically, but he sure writes some freaking good songs!! I took pix of the Swiss Alps! I’ll find those pix one day, with the rest of my European Tour ones.
Hi Lynn, please use 0 to 5 of those pix in the e-mails, as you wish. The hat and shirt photos did not turn out so well yet.
Hi DayDreamer, yes after I wrote this I thought of God and his creation. Maybe Dr J. is God!!?? I guess there’s a lot of Him in each of us.
Hi Shadiatique. I actually see a couple little edits I want to make for better flow. I’ll pop those in after I post this. Just punctuation. Thanks so much for being here.
Geez, thanks Heaven — You should know of heavenly things!!
Yes, I think that line finally came together. I do tweak and edit a bit often.
Daisy — with your popping in here to spread your sunshine how can I NOT be having an absolutely super week?? But yes, things are going great. Hope you are too.
Dearest Lovely Hedgewitch adorned in gravtar by a leather hat. At least I think it’s leather? Or maybe felt? Anyway… Ahhhhh, thanks. have you shaken any poems into seaweed lately? I think you probably have.
Dearest Ayala, I thank you and Blue Bunny too thanks you for your input here on our humble blog. We appreciate your golden shawl cloaking us in friendship.
Dearest Fred, whoooohoooo! Open Link Night! I drank a little wine. Did you?? Yes, maybe those whole 4 lines were not even needed. I wrote 4 other poems today. Hopefully some of them have nice words too.
Dearest Anna, I think you have a new gravatar? And jsut as lovely as the other, of course. I think your day was less than joy-filled? I am glad you found a happy moment in Dr. J.’s photo and my words. SO glad.
Dearest Margaret, you always make me smile. Then again, I’m always just please as punch when you pop in, like a visit from a queen, but a nice queen. Yep, he fluffed up that sky with his eyes, and voila! Not sure if this will ever make it into a song. But I’ll sing one of Mary’s songs first. (After I blonde up my roots again, of course. Been 8 weeks now, I think.)
Dearest Brian — I am sure Dr. J. can do almost anything to clouds and rain — even fly high above them, I think. You make me smile, you “late one in swinging around here” you, who are almost always very very close to first commenter. I’ll make the rounds tomorrow.
Dearest Jackie Dick who are in NYNY, I think? I KNOW, I still can’t get over this magical golden photo. I love the pelicans, and the sun’s fluffed up reflection in the window.
And off I go, maybe to bed.
Dearest Claudia, well you should know about gorgeous lines of poetry — they flow from you like breath.
Why, Dearest Caity, thanks. I think it’s indeed one of my favorite photos ever posted here. Something about the golden sheen is like heaven from a bottle uncorked.
Thank you Dearest Hilary, and Dr. J. has directed my attention to a poem by called “High Flight.” I am sure you know it? http://www.deltaweb.co.uk/spitfire/hiflight.htm one of the best poems I’ve read — and I’ve read a LOT!
Jo, Jo, Jo, Jo, Jo, Jo!! Wait that wasn’t YOU at the party on Saturday. Then who WAS that crazy gal in the Elvis costume singing her heart out and flinging her vodka glass at the moon???
How is olde Beatle Paul? Did you do yoga with him?? Oh, gosh — please give them 6 or 8 years, those kiddoes until they’re sneaking sips of brandy.
Yes, they did have a lot of fun, went home plumb tuckered out. Nice girls, all. Kelly is SO lucky to have such a wonderful life. And I’m lucky too. And hey GUESS WHAT!?!?!??! Two days ago I got my big rolls of Christmas wrapping paper out of the garage, with intentions of getting on the ball. I believe I still owe about 14 of you my “I Need A Man” CD which was produced in 2009. No rushing into anything at all, am I?
Ah, thank you Dearest Lovely Ann LeFlore, sunsets, sunsets, what a gift to the world. I plan to blog-hop later at the library from 1:15 to 3:15, whoooohooo. I bet I can read and comment on 50 poetry blogs in that time — at LEAST!!
Dearest Aimee, did you smell the refreshing salt air?? How long since you’re been to the ocean? And which one? Galveston is in an area called “The Third Coast”. But it can’t compare to the good olde Atlantic or Pacific. I was last at the Pacific in 2005. And the N.S. Atlantic in 2009.
Dearest Heather of whales and wings, ahhhhhh thanks! I should like very very much to visit the Keys one day. have not been yet. Have you? I will tho, of course. “I’ll go everywhere, man.”
toodles…..
Dearest Linda, and did you move on to more blogs and immerse yourself in the waters of more and more poems? This dVerse is just The Best, don’t ya think??!!
Ahhhh, Dearest Colleen, thanks so much. It IS a most magical photo, indeedie do. Dr. J. is much more creative than I. I made my point-and-shoot from two old socks and a vegetable garden.
Hi Dearest RavenBlack. Yes, I think Dr. J. did a mighty fine job indeed of directing all the elements into place for our viewing pleasure. He said the pelicans were the trickiest — they didn’t want to sign the waiver and photo release.
Dearest Snaggle who is a pro photographer, yet one of the least stuffiest I know… Well, you ARE a bit stuffy — stuffed with love and magic. Have you ever been to the Keys? I’d like to. Been to Ft. Liquordale — I mean Lauderdale.
Dearest Randy Behavior. And such a lovely name you have.
Third time was the charm, I hope??
Thanks for popping in.
Dearest Jo, yep Happy Chappy here!! Was up today at my usual 6:30, made the kiddo her usual pancakes, brushed her hair — school pictures today, saw her off at the bus, went for a 30-min walk, came back and made coffee, which I’m still enjoying, ate 2 mozzarella cheese sticks, and here I am!! After I post this I’m going to turn my fancy to the verse lyrics in my “When I Put On My Sneakers” tune. That’s THE cash cow tune, Baby!!!! Nike? Reebok?? Who’s gonna win the war to use that for their ads? Paul, I mean Sir Paul and his gang had a good go with Nike when they used “Revolution” for the ads, but my humble tune will top all that!! Planning on taking YOU on a World Cruise with the $$$$ I’ll sock in from that. Anyway… It’s a GREAT day. Jim is already off to work too, and looking very very dashing today indeed. My hair still looks nice from the washing from yesterday. Gotta do my roots, tho. Think I will on Saturday. Might do some sit-ups and arse lifts later to keep me all buff and beautiful. Yes, Christmas is coming, and geese somewhere are getting fat. Tho I fancy a nice duck a l’orange. Or a small tender turkey. xoxoxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxo
Dearest Bajan Poet who are in Bajaland, wherever that is… thank you SO much. We at Funsterment Global Incorporated do aim to bring you the best poetry imagery planning as possible. Blue Bunny wrote most of that — his poetry delights me more and more each effort.
Dearest Gene who knows a thing or 29 about poetry imbuing himself…. thanks!!
