Patches
Flash Fiction 55 | Posted by Jannie on 5 January 2012 @ 5:55 PM 48 Comments

Ice patches.
Rough patches.
Calm patches.

Patches on a marriage
in spots, but the seams
triple-stitched to last.

Vintage 70s patches
lookin’ so groovy.
September apricot patches
on a cute little curious cat.

Sail to the kitchen
or maybe the moon
and you might return
to find that curious cat
in your patches patch too.

Those were 55 words of Friday Flash Fiction for The G-Man.
FFF goes live Thursdays at 8:00 Michigan Time!
Write fiction in 55 words, post it and tell G-Man — he’ll comment and put you in his good books.

I love this one, Jannie! It’s interesting how patches can be both a fix to our problems and a problem to get through (like the icy or rough patches). I never thought about it like that before.

Very nice. Those patches can cover the frays and holes. And they don’t have to be plain or boring, looking like a fix-it, rather adds color. Love what you did here.

Hi Jannie .. patches everywhere .. we patch this and we patch that .. and we hope the patches will cover all manner of empty spaces … or let us stretch our limbs and escape the challenging times. Now patches of September Apricot fame .. she’s rather special .. amazing how cats always seem to know the ‘best’ places to go .. the linen basket, the empty box .. and your jeans .. Loved it .. and G-man certainly looks the part … I presume you’re singing while you patch ..
Happy days .. Hilary

I used to make embroidery patches- some where in the old clothes is a pair of almost all patches jeans- worn until they shredded! Yep, I do remember those Flower Power, Cool man! hippie designs… Don’t forget the old Peace sign-
I got the embroidery badge in scouts too! These days I tend to patch jeans from underneath with other jean material, n just use fabric patches, the fingers get too sore!
Cute 55, n Meiska’s so cute n a goosd model, too!
Nowadays patches are computer files to ward off bugs in the programming…

Hi guys!
DAISY! I loved catching Mieshka like that and knew I had to do a post, but had no idea what to say, so that’s what tumbled out of me.
HEAVEN! The one of G-Man, right? I think he looks just darling! Like a cute little baby to sport about in a pram.
PAT! Yes that cat is where it’s at, curious one in lots of photo fun. Jannie will have Blue Bunny stitch and stitch, for if me arse gets to hanging out the neighbors might twitch.
G-MAN! Parts of Arkansas? Yep, and one corner up near Norman, Oklahoma. Oh, and all of Mongolia! I think you look CUTE in that, like a big baby all ready for a pram-a-bout.
TAYLOR! I used to hide my charming talent under a bunch of old alder branches. But now I’m letting it fly, Baby!!! Thanks for your awesome comment and visit.
YVONNE! Ahh, thanks. Well, my buddy Kalyani scored like 100 patches off eBay which were on sample cards, I guess vendors would take around to fabric stores, or whatnot. And she gifted me those!! Well, in my Corel Paint PRo program I just upload a photo, remove the background, resize, copy, paste, and situate and voila!! Easy. And fun.
ALEX! I’m starting to get used to you. Should I link you up?? Yes, a curious cat does make for some great photos!
BRIAN! Yep, just getting them jeans broken in for sure. Trixie gifted me with them 10 years ago and they just keep on a-goin’. G-Man? ADORABLE!!
TERESA — we meet again so soon!! Thanks for popping in TRIPLE time in the past couple weeks. And your number is coming up very soon for a blog visit. Yep, maybe even quadruple or quintuple stitched!!
TALON!! And can you believe my eyes are so bad now that even with glasses I could NOT get the thread through the needle’s eye?? So….. I needs me a new needle with much bigger eye before I can do that stiching. Did your kids save all their patches??
KATHERINE!! Patches would’ve been a GREAT name for that cat, but Kelly dubbed her Mieshka. And Blue Bunny calls her Meeshka.
MARGARET! Oh, did I send you a second song? Must’ve been “You Could Love e Good?” Had a singing lesson yesterday on “Banana Seat Bicycle.” Gonna practice lots later today. Yes, G-man is looking his finest there, I think!
ENCHANTED OAK!! YESSSSS!!! It’s ALWAYS The Cat causing the troubles. ALWAYS. Poor dogs, getting all the blame.
RAVENBLACK! Thank you — well, my buddie, Kalyani scored a bunch of those in various designs on eBay and started patching all her holes, even in sweat pants, and they look SO CUTE! But yes, I think these will be nice when done. Shall I model the jeans then?
HILARY!! Mieshka does like to investigate all new things, as you can see. Oh yes, singing and patching while drinking coffee or wine depending on the time of day. And the budgies singing all the while too.
SNAGGLE!! How AWSOME you made your own embroidery patches!! And got a badge for it! Would love to see those jeans you mention. Kalyani scored over 100 of these patches off eBay — for only twenty bucks! And yes, some were peace signs!! I should take my camera over there and photogreaph some of the cool stuff she did on her clothes.
DAYDREAMERTOO! Ahhhh, thanks. Morning. (And evening. And afternoon…) smiles are what we are all about here in Funsterland. So glad you felt uplifted. And your comment uplifts me!!
HEY MAMA Z! Yep, cute as a button that little Patch Pilferer.

LINDA! Of course, just for YOU this post.
So glad to hear of your jeans and cat on lap when you read this. Yes, and I think Mieshka just keeps getting cuter and cuter.
CAITY! You ripped the jeans on purpose?
CHRISTINE!
Yep, an idea that could be patented and make a billion bucks.
DR.J.!! Well, you made me pull up the YouTube. Oh Dear Lord, what a sad song! I was expecting a thrid verse about Patches grown and married with 12 kids and his wife singing the last chorus to him. Actually quite a catchy tune.
SECRET AGENT WOMAN. Well… I have this hippie cute friend so I get exposed to all this fun retro stuff. Glad you liked!
AYALA!! Thanks, my dear.
DAVINA!! in the jeans.
Well, I had the photos first, then my mind got to wandering.
JEANNE!! And you know how I got those holes in my jeans in the first place? From getting kicked in the ass too many times.
If I’d been wearing my sneakers and not my high heels while wearing those jeans, my ass would’ve high-tailed it down the street instead of getting kicked.
LYNN!! The party’s finally getting started now that YOU are here!! Hope you are well, my dear.

ISABEL! Thanks so much for popping in and for your welcome words.
ALICE AUDREY, well, I’m trying tto suss out this rash on my face. Could be the sunscreen. Could be the sun. So… when i was last out a couple days ago, I went sunscreen-free. Might even be exacerbated by the cats and now the Mountain Cedar Fever. Woe is me. At least I’ve got my coffe to depend on today. Sun poisoning, I don’t doubt it. The sun is a strong thing.
LUKE! LUKE! Why did my moderation spam your comment? Glad you made it through.

I need to learn to comment like Luke. Short and to the point. I’m always rambling all over the place.
I could have just gone with “Fun pictures for fun words,” but then I just HAD to say something about your kitty (she’s so adorable) By doing so, however, I spoiled my brevity; my comment no longer short and sweet:~(

SHEILA — I think I did have dry patches in, and edited out. But yes, indeed. And I can relate to the itch fest, yuck.
ALICE AUDREY — yesterday I bought a new kind, supposedly non-comedegenic (or however you spell that,) and kept the receipt in case it breaks me out. Just so DRY skinned lately. But luckily still pretty thick skinned.
