The Return Of My Coffee Rooster

Poetry, Seriously Weird | Posted by Jannie on 13 March 2012 @ 12:54 PM 48 Comments

van_goghs_blue_guitar

my coffee rooster flew back in through the

dog door this morning with muffins for all,

his tales from far beyond the pastried portal

leaving me, as usual, with maps in my eyes.

he’d been to sea with van gogh’s blue guitar

and georgia o’ keefe’s thanksgiving ukulele,

sailing on tall ships made from fine fiddles

and scrapbooks of far-off singing at night.

he’d yodeled in the alps with gandhi’s beagle

and gambled in paris with shakespeare’s cat.

he’d crept up einstein’s rose trellis to peek

at him and churchill sitting knitting socks.

told me his favorite part was arm-wrestling

nostradamus the october night they sat up

baking and eating starlit pies and laughing

until sunrise sang them both off to dreams

of moonkissed maidens they hope to one day

meet and marry on martha’s vineyard or mars.

as /ghandi’s beagle/ gets it on
    with /shakespeare’s cat/ in the

This was a delight. I love everything about this poem, especially these lines,

“he’d yodeled in the alps with gandhi’s beagle
and gambled in paris with shakespeare’s cat.

he’d crept up einstein’s rose trellis to peek
at him and churchill sitting knitting socks.”

You are amazing at taking things like beagles and cats and mixing them with Gandhi and Shakespeare or the idea of climbing rose trellis to peek on Einstein and Churchill knitting socks…I LOVE IT.

Plus, it’s so much fun to read. You are one talented lady:~)

Such imaginative fun, Jannie! I’d like to sneak in through that dog door for a cup with you to hear the rooster’s tales. Or, better yet, slip the bonds of this humdrum life, grab a willing hand or two, and join rooster on his next adventures.

Bringing along tales of awe from beyond yonder
The scrapbook gave a run through of all wonders
Of the famed and famous there were from all over

For the wedded bliss at Martha’s Vineyard
Delighted Americans would lovingly have it fast
As the toss-up is the improbable faraway Mars
