This started a few days ago as a poem about…
Poetry | Posted by Jannie on 15 May 2012 @ 6:17 PM 45 Comments
someone with eyes
the color of messaged
bottles sunk in sand
and fingers like pillars
holding up archways in
far off coffee piazzas,
a last week poem
before rembrandt burned
up my toyota’s tranny
and salvador dali
spilled his champagne
on my photoshop files.
yes, last week when
this poetess ate cakes
of forgotten autumn
she writing, who now
has a JOB, as in… a place
she goes every weekday
to accomplish gainful
and highly meaningful
stuff, for like HOURS,
this happy one who
still loves you like she
loves the colors of
the stars’ arms
reaching to tuck the
earth in each night.

Yes, I’m now working a “day job” in an office, whooooohoooo.
Life is good here. Hope yours is too?

Oh, and here’s that same piazza painted by Cannaletto in 1730.
That’s in Venice. Never been. Looks nice.
Meet me there for coffee some Thursday?
P.S. I’ll be around to your blogs and answering comments again soon, whoooohooooo.

When I was in Italy last, I spent time in Florence, Rome and Pisa… but missed the chance to be at this piazza. The images are so vivid! and create a fabulous backdrop of imagination and a journey in the mind’s eye, grounded but not shackled by the workday world.

Jannie, your writing makes everyday stuff read like
classic scenes. This:
“we feel guilty for
our guilt…”
I really needed that thought for a Peep today, who
feels so guilty for 50 years of living…
he DOES feel now, guilty for feeling guilty.
(I see him again tomorrow!)
Anyway, I’m always happy to be in your blog. And those
PICTURES. WOW! Almost 300 years apart.
PEACE!!!

Well, holy cow here’s the working girl on her blog.
had a grrrreat day today, kicked ass on reorganizing office files. And drank extra coffee.
My hair looked nice too!
DAYDREAMERTOO!! FIRST, you are. I still can’t believe humans can actually paint like that. Amazing.
BRIAN!! Had a kick-ass day today organizing. And tomorrow I’m gonna wear my good new used purple shirt for good luck on those sales calls that await me. My tranny really did burn up. Not my fault tho, it’s an automatic. Anyway… I’m in a car borrowed from a friend today, nice friend! This poem started out good I think, then got a little weirder than I’d envisioned. Next week’s poem will make angels weep, I swear!!
AYALA…. ahhhhhhh, thanks my dear lady. You always go straight to my heart, you know?? Alright on the coffee! Next week I’m in Paris, and the following Thursday Madrid. But June 7th would be grrreat to meet you in Piazza de San Marco. Say… 10:00 a.m.??
Pat Hatt! Well, aren’t you Little Miss Suzie Sunshine saying I’ll soon hate my shiny new amazing office job.
The coffee does keep me going there. Yes, $$$ not so plentiful to go gallivanting off to Venice in real life. But man, I’m there in my mind 24 / 7.
SAMUEL PERALTA! An honor to have the pleasure of your visit here, thanks. Would LOVE to inhale all the art in Florence. Been to France, but not Italy. YET… But some day. I really like your description of the grounded, not shackled by my awesome new day job. Just a small company, but one that will hopefully grow and kick major ass thanks to my scintillating office and people skills.
RAVENBLACK! Thanks! I really do like it. Kind of a temporary thing for a few months or so until my lottery numbers come up.
And wouldn’t you just love to run across that piazza singing at the top of your lungs.
DEAREST STEVE E. This blog is a no guilt zone, as it should be. Guilt is a non-existent thing, as shame — as they should be. Something Ego drummed up. Tell your buddy to rejoice in this gift of life and all the beauty endowed to us by our loving creator. That being typed, how the heck are ya!!!????? AWESOME to have you grace this humble page with your welcome Steve-ness. I know — 300 years apart, eh? They were pretty artsy back in the day. peace to you too. And much love.
JEANNNNNNNEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I so kicked ass today with files and such. So proud of moi. whooohoooo. And my desk is so lovely. All I need is a small vase of flowers in one corner. And maybe some potpourri. Cinnamon autumn with whiffs of early hayfield would be nice.
HANK! Kaykuala, thanks so much. Yeah, I’m a regular workin’ stiff now for a while.
Yes, I cannot fathom how such painting talent is granted, I’m only glad it is. I like the little dog in the Cannaletto. Looks like a Shiz-tzu to me. Thanks.
DULCE! How ’bout tomorrow? I hear there is one amazing little cafe. It’s got all yellow chairs. Bet the pastries are AMAZING!!!!! Ahhhhhh, YOU are quite the wordsmith too, my dear. And I wonder how Galen is. I’ve not been over in a few days. I plan on popping in there before I lay me down to sleep tonight.
Dr. J! Well then, I guess we can thank those painting masters for such an exceptional surgeon as you. Carving human tissue a high art form, my friend! I hate some songwriters for being so good too. But I love them! Kinda.
And you know what? I know you paint and sculpt in a way I’m reminded of in a quote I read on someone’s site today. And because I like you so much I’ll go back to that blog and find the quote… Hang on… Oh shoot, now I can’t find the blog. But the message is basically… Create for the love of it!!
And with that, my friends, shall I now lay me down to sleep. Or at least go brush my teeth. And maybe read a few more blogs…
The Husband and The Child are already in dreamland for the night.
Will be answering the rest of y’alls awesome words in the days to come.

HILARY! I imagine you’ve been to that piazza, have you? And could you sing the song “I’ve been everywhere, Man?”
I just had lunch at my desk and am now taking a 10-minute break, whooohoooo.
AIMEE, thanks! Day jobs are not so bad. It’s all in one’s perception of the whole thing. Yes, I like those 2 too. My train of thought changed right after I penned them and veered. Next time Iplan on a whole seven killer stanzas. Maybe with allusions to carousels, lemonade, chestnut blossoms and snow boots. Now, there’s a challenge for me!
GLENN! Well the bank has taken the car barn back, but I suppose it’s a blessing, really. The universe’s way of saying it was time to move on. Time to work a regular job. And God is providing, always. Well… whether I charm or whatever my associates I’m not sure. But I am kicking booty getting this paperwork in order.
CHAZINATOR, thanks! It’s really fun writing this modern poetry stuff. And even better sharing it with like-minded folks like yourself. And it’s great to see you here, I’ve seen your name around the poetry blogosphere. Look forward to diving into your poetry. Again….. I feel abit sorry for the non-poetry-appreciating types. They so don’t know what they’re missing!!
LYNN! Well, I hope so. No complaints so far, and if it gets to that I hope those will be made to my face.
LINDA, I know… Jannie is back to a real job, the economy necessitating a bit of a hold on my songwriting aspirations for a while. Great song research here, tho! Thank you dear. I know YOU brighten my day when you pop in here. And you should see the kittens now!!! So, so, so sweet.
Well, enough of a blogging break for now. See you all later.

Ahhhhhhh, I feel like such a successful mom today!!
The Universe sent me a red velvet vest and striped pirate shirt for Kelly for the musical she’s soon going to co-star in. Scored the clothes SAVERS!! Boots too. Paid a lot for the shirt, $6.99 but the vest was only $2.99. Boots only $3.99.
Anyhoo, lovely to be here.
Kelly napping after “The Best Sleep-Over Of My Life, Mom…”
and Jim trying to figure out a door knob set.
So…..
Oh,I hear a kitten crying. They all 4 love me now! And I they…
Hold on a minute…….
there, gave them all a pat and a kiss.
So…..
DAISY!!! You have been a very prolific blogger lately. Nicely done. That Mothers’ Day card from your boy cracked me up. Yeah, looking forward to another day of productive happy stuff. Gonna don my sneakers tomorrow as I have some cleaning to do too! But cleanliness is next to heavenliness. I even have my own bucket, scrubbing brush, all-purpose H.E.B. $1 a bottle cleaner, rags and running water!! whoooohoooo.
DEAREST SARA OF MY HEART WHO ART IN THE FLORIDA SANDS!! I better not quit my day job! It’s a symbiotic endeavor over there. As the Wonder Pets sing… “We’re not too big. And we’re not too tough, but when we work together we’ve got the right stuff. What’s it gonna take? Teamwork!…” And if you haven’t heard that song yet, I strongly suggest you check it out. Winnie, Tuck & Ming-Ming too (I think) are there names. Kelly and I love the show for about 2 months straight when she was 4. That was right around the time she was a flower girl at Laura & Brian’s wedding in North Carolina. And I blew Ave Maria right outta the ball park, Baby!!
I think my posting 2x a week may be slipping to once. But we’ll see what the stars have in store.
Dearest BELLA! I am so glad that most of my lines have been liked and noted. I saw your blog via Elizabeth Young, btw. Thank YOU for coming back here, I’m honored. Yes, a job. Amazing! Probably gonna be blogging less, but will appreciate all my buddies all the more when I do make contact with y’all.
YEAH, ALICE AUDREY. I HOURS!! Who knew hard work could actually be sustained for like more than 10 minutes!
Good thing I am enjoying making a difference.
ELIZABETH YOUNG, a.k.a. Star Girl at teh top of my sidebar this week. Well, truth be told, I’d prefer to put the kid on the bus at 7:00 a.m. and have her arrive home again at 3:30 during which time I’ll have photoshopped a new header, written 3 fabulous poems, swept and mopped all my floors, and steam cleaned the one room that still has carpet (we are SO not carpet people,) Jazzercise for ah hour, bake a strawberry layer cake, weed the garden and give the dogs a bath. But I shall be at the olde day job where I shall kick major bootay.
Hey Ed, well I kinda surmised the rav-4’s tranny was going out, bit by bit. got to the point i couldn’t reverse. had to make sure however i parked, anywhere, i was facing out and ready to roar. luckily Jim was able to rescue me and Kelly was not late for gymnastics. And further in luck, our lawyer loaned us a car. a V-6, TG. And smoooooooth. lovin’ it! Not so economical on gas, tho. But anyway…. this comment and such. oh yeah, and the photoshop, i actually was without my paptop 2 days after the tranny incident because i was planning on coming back to the office and left my laptop bag there. luckily a little angel was able to whisk that and my good camera to her house for safe-keeping. so…. i was unable to photoshop Elizabeth’s sidebar button during tha time. But bob-your-uncle, all’s dinky-di now! I adore the voice behind your poetic voice too. the man, the myth, the Ed-ness of you!!
JANNIE!!!!! You poor workin’ stiff, ya!
ELIZABETH YOUNG again, whoooooooooooohoooooooooooo. It was a great joy to Google garden gate photos and paintings. my faves were the ones with the sea in the horizon, but I had to take care not to make the button too “busy” I like it too!!! Looks like a gate leading to luuuuvv.
Oh My Goodness HEATHER, thank you. well, And life is a song, eh? Every moment of it whether we are sitting with our rymming dictionaries and guitars, or with our office files and brooms. Great snippets of songs come while sweeping, often. That’s why Cinderella must be sure to keep her iPhone in her pocket (vocal recorder) for when those line pop up.
But Cinderella must take great care to keep her iPhone out of her scrub bucket, or any water for that matter, for that would void the warranty!
JANNIE!!! Be sure to look for the lager next time.
But jannie must zip away now to do some work.

Dali does sound like someone who would have been into Photoshop, had it existed in his time. Just think about all of the stretching and kneading he would have done to the photographed faces of his family and friends, so that their flesh appeared to drip from their bones. It’s probably a good thing he didn’t have access to it.
