Sail A Note Like A Ship Out On The Sea (Alternate Title — 21 Postcards From The Pretty-Much Non-Edge)
Friends, Photography, Poetry | Posted by Jannie on 14 August 2012 @ 1:50 PM 46 Comments
Sometimes a postcard will sail into your harbor
and sometimes you’ll only watch one float along
someone else’s horizon and into their mail box.
But you can always be the postcard yourself,
splashing your thoughts and words out to places like
Montreal, Michigan, Minsk, Montana & Maine*
via The Internet like this.
Or via the inter net of love we’re
all so deliciously entangled in.
And the poems just keep on coming for dVerse Poetry Open Link Tuesday!
Yes, I sailed those 21 out the other day.
Have any made port yet, I wonder?
One day I’ll announce a give-away here for 2 packs of those uplifting cards to 2 lucky winners!
* Yes, Sara — read that puppy out loud, Girl!!

Yeah! I’m the first fan to see or at least comment today.Maybe the rest are all working. Inspires me to send a few letters of love out myself. Thanks for the inspiration.

Why, GDK DEARest, thank you so much. Your love is like that too! My blogging friend Sheila in Ohio designs and makes those. Her teenage daughter takes the photos. And the recto is as beautiful as the verso. Or is that the verso is as beautiful as the recto — I always get those 2 mixed up.

Now, I am off to the bath tub. And what WILL I wear today??

Oh, GDK3 again, thank you. We all inspire each other, and when we are operating from love we are totally on our right path! And it’s amazing how a simple gesture of a postcard with loving words can reverberate out forever.

Yes, I think that is a useful perspective — I’m really the one who’s the postcard, or e-mail, or TumbleLog, or thing that people are Pinterested in. I am also the sequence of ones and zeroes as well as the “Hello World” program constructed out of those digits.

BRIAN!! AWESOME!! Is the job in your same field? Or totally different, like circus tumbling, blown glass sculpture, or corn farming. Whatever it is, I seriously wish you amazing good things there, whooohoooo.
Pat Hatt!! Drift on a poem, away from home. Float back in, and love will begin, and always end with happy thoughts to grateful friends.
Well, Hi there Susan L. Daniels. Most humbled you shouldst choose my blog to pop in on, thanks. Ain’t poetry THE BEST!!! And I love, love, love your comment!
DEAREST AYALA, of the sunset shores, thanks, you ultra sweet thang. Happy Tuesday to you, and all the rest of the weekly days.
I KNOW, Audrey, i loves me some inter net. And I thank the Internet for YOU and your poetry persuasions.
SKYRAFTWANDERER — I got some long letters and sent back postcards, but I compressed each with all my best words of love!! Ah, thanks. I do like how poems still find me. And something tells me, they always will, as I imagine they always will find YOU. Poets are born this way, methinks. Then again, everything is poetry if we let it be.
Ahhh, DayDreamer, but you make me blush pinker than the fabulous $2.00 shirt from Savers I am currently wearing here at The Library.
Hey Book Dreamer John — I think I saw you once here before, many many moons ago? How ya doing?? Postcrossing – now that sounds cool. Like two postcards that cross in the night — like those proverbial ships?? You might even make me Google that!!
Dearest Yelena — howdy. I really did enjoy how this came together. Postcards first, then the photos the other day, then the words this morning. Please don’t be a stranger — I love it when you pop in!!
JOEY!!!! That’s my favorite one too. I was almost going to save those until Easter, but really — Easter is always in our hearts, so why not spread those fabulous colors and message year ’round!! I think next time I’ll insert larger versions of these you can make out better. All the cards are so sweet in their way.
CHRIS EDGAR!!! These little ones and zeroes are calling out for heroes like You-oo-ooo-ooo. Yes a lyric. How ’bout that Pinterest, eh? Hearing a lot about that of late. I remember when Stumble Upon was my big rage. These days for me it’s coffee mugs that color coordinate with my hair scarves.

Daisy, Lovely Flower, well… you comment on every post here and I think that’s so so sweet of you. And you know what I like?? That “New Postcard Smell” always makes my day, tho Snaggle with her scent sensitivities may not be as thrilled with that aroma. I LOVE it, tho yes, things going nicely thanks. I’ve got the next 3.5 hours all to myself. Planning on making a good solid 2 of those eBay-related.
Alice Audrey, Missoula, as I recall!!
HEAVEN!!!! You did what I did on somebody else’s blog — inputted my URL just a couple characters off. had to fish you out of spam, But TG you were in there — your comment safe and sound at last. WORK? Well, update, I’m not at That Place anymore. But I have been totally stepping up the eBay, and it’s work I really enjoy. Yes, family life going well too. I’m so blessed.
HalfWayToT, I mean BETWEENT… well my goodness, that’s lovely to hear — thanks!! And I LOVE conjuring up what-nots to post here and express my artsy passions for all you Awesome BLoggers!!
Well, hello — Flipside Records! I REALLY like your gravatar, a purple passion beach, it seems. Gorgeous! And where IS Minsk? Russia, I think, right?
Fred, Fred, Fred! You rolled out of bed to grace us all with your presence. Good to see ya, Brother! Why thank you, I quite enjoyed allowing all this stuff to flow out to y’all. And smiled when I slipped those 21 into the mail slot.
LYNN!! I’ll see the Funsterment Global board gets that message, stat! We’re actually having our annual corporate boat cruise / quasi-meeting this coming weekend off the Sydney Coast, and I’ll be sure to mention poetry is still high on our wonderful patrons’ list!!!
John Allen Richter! now there’s a blast from my poetic past! Welcome back. I wonder what prompted you to take a chance on my humble blog again??
you’re now 4th on the list for a Fabulous Sidebar Button. YESSSSS — you, Cool Joey and I are agreed on that Easter one! I think Sheila ought to consider making it into a greeting card and selling a bunch come next early spring.

Jannie, this was the best post. First one I opened at dverse (yes, it’s Wednesday and I was post number 1,375.97 or something like that!), and I was just back from a rough therapy session. So this collection of Post Cards With An Edge (just my name for them, or With A Purpose, maybe) was exactly what I needed.
I’m also in the “use the post office and help them survive” group, so I’m writing letters like made, actually going to the Dollar Store for stationery, or using the back of old, unusable documents from our church plucked from the recycling bin! I hand-write poems or just a “howdy doody from Madison,” and every stamp brings us one step BACK from the Right privatizing postal service.
In short (or long), I LOVED this. Peace, Amy

Hi Jannie – mine made it all the way to Eastbourne and it didn’t need the tube …and it’s so pretty – the heart-shaped cactus leaves .. they make wonderful shapes and the beauty of the dry garden behind – love the colours of it. My card had ‘love, love, love’ stamps for its overseas posting – I’m one lucky lady.
Such a heartfelt postcard – so welcome .. I keep buying postcards and cards – soon I shall be free from the recent bonds … and be able to do and make time for other things …
At least the postman delivered here … one chap in Birmingham, England has been sending his daughter in High Wycombe, Australia letters and cards for 30 years … they are constantly delivered to High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire … quite rightly he’s doing his nut! Strange but true – you think they could read, or the system would realise airmail v local …
Now we’ve got Gold Post Boxes and 29 Gold Winning First Class stamps .. the Post Office should be in for a record year of profits … perhaps!
We did have a hot hot beginning to the day – but a thunderstorm thought about raining down .. decided not to – but it’s cooled off a little … really hot for us – lots of burnt bods going to work tomorrow I think …
Have a great week and often think of you and all things – and have an article to send you – when it materialises from the Olympic paper … big hugs and love for now … Hardwick sends his paw hug to BB .. he’s settled on his shelf for now – and he gets talked to .. so he’s a happy dawg – waiting til he can do some travelling .. big hugs xoxoxoxo Hilree

Well, hi! I’m saying “to heck” with eBay for a while to see how you all are doing.
Sharp, wonderful Aimee!! Wait — aren’t you showing a little more of your face in your gravatar now?? I LOVE it!! Bit by bit, you are revealing yourself. Postcards with an edge — I love it!!!!
I still plan on ordering your chapbook, so maybe will send you some stationery with my check to you. I have quite a bit left, even tho I’ve been using it up a lot lately, writing to my sis a lot. Let’s keep our lovey USPS alive!!! Not sure if they ever run in the black, but who cares? We NEED them!!!!!!
Snaggle — I’ve been listening to my Bozz Scaggs “Some Change” cd lately, the one who’s opening cut starts “You got my letter….” Glad to hear the USPS is still ticking away. Forget which one I sent you.
Ravenblack!! I was actually battling a bit of a breeze that day, but managed to catch some calm for a minute to bring those shots to YOU. Yes, indeed BE the postcard in all we think, say and do — so The Wise Ones say.
Why thank you, Chris Lawrence!! Ain’t blogging FUN!!! And yes, we at Funsterment Global do reach for great meaning bytimes.
Ahhhhhh, thank you Dr. J. And did you find them? My postcards sailing in on the tide? A bit soggy, but still filled with lots of love!
Claudia!! You’d LOVE it down there, hard not to with that cool water and those shady trees. Actually 365, it’s a great little spot — that lake, I mean, of course.
Poet Laundry — now there’s an awesome name!!!
What’s the origin of that very interesting moniker? AWESOME to meet you too!!!
hi Archna — yes, that table is really neat.. And someone painted on those red circles, so cute and unique. Yes, you KNOW I’ll be in touch. Any fellow poet is a new BFF of mine!
Liara Covert. I’ll say!! Last night I travelled to Ayer’s Rock by way of Bali.
Ahhhh, thank you, Sara V. I’m signing up for YOUR words too!! Some of those postcards were to my aunts and cousins in Canada.
Ain’t they nice, Manic Daily!!?!!?! Once my next eBay ship comes in I’ll order up those new packs, and have a give-away. Actually, I’m hoping to get this blog more like “The Pioneer Woman’s” where she has her separate blog-within-a-blog, on different pages. A give-away page is a goal of mine!!!
Hello again, Snaggle. What happened with your gravatar was you forgot to put in part of your email addy. But I fixed it!! Well, the P.O. depends on us, and I guess we on it.
HILARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that is my second-fave card. It’s a toss up really between that and the eggs. OMG on the Australia postcard mix-up. Truth IS stranger than fiction. What temp do you consider “hot” over there? 30C? 33? 27? Oh, an article for ME? Wow, thanks!!
Hi Linda — I used to collect them too from my travels. I think I subsequently sent a lot of them sailing too.
