Sometimes You Watch Them

Sometimes you watch them

from an umbrella or a window

or a harbor castle’s keep.

arc_of_a_castle

Whatever a keep is.

Something that holds

things in I guess.

But there’s no holding in

kids or flowers with hearts

and minds of their own.

they_bloom

Sometimes a poem that starts

about children playing in morning rain

after a birthday slumber party

They_went_to_rome

ends in a grand revelation

that this year your impatiens

must’ve roamed off to Rome.

I_love_the_USPS

But… you sweep the

walkway for this post,

Postie’s on the way,

when_they_were_new

rome_roamersand even with Rome roamers,

you know everything’s still good.

Really so very wonderfully good.

With love to all you AWESOME-sweet ones.

Have fun out cavorting in the wild-flowered poetry meadows. See you there soon!

Yes, I watered them all summer!

(The kids AND the flowers!!)

Probably just need to upgrade my soil.

Hey CLAUDIA!! I have to say the sky did a very good job of watering them that Sunday morning. :) But… did I sweep ALL the walkway? And did I cart the leaves away? Only this blogger and her family really will ever know for sure. :)

Hey COLLEEN!! Hey, that’s right — poetry and life are one in the same. I was fully intending to show the impatiens even more robust and bombastic in a late Sept. pic. But… the heavy frost will not kill those off til probably late Nov. early Dec. so, ya never know, they could flourish yet. :)

Hey RUTH!! Dear, thank you so much. This poem came in a little bit that day, the rest today. I was surprised when today the castle keep thing sprang up. Keepers on our belts too. :) Yeah, funny for the flowers to get worse-looking. Oh well, to each shall every 7th year fall fallow. Next year could be a big ‘un for that little planter box! :)

Hey KELLY!! Okay, what happened was… instead of being organized and picking up several of those little 6-cell paks in April, I chanced upon 5 half-price bargain basement fairly good looking hanging baskets in late June. So I split them into 10 plantings, yet they only went downhill from there. :) But…the earlier photos do look nice of the girls and the posies. And how about you? Did you get some end-of-the-season bargain baskets too?

WONDERFUL SUSAN, and Wonderful, SUSAN!! :) Thank you. Your blessing makes this journey all the sweeter. And your gravatar makes it look like you have thick hair. That must be nice. I’m heading towards a wig myself, as my hair is thinning out. But it’s all an adventure. And there are some really NICE wigs available these days.

Hey, DAISY!! Yes, from the moment, well from BEFORE the moment they are born, they are off and running with their own ideas.Yeah, first time ever for my impatiens wither away. I do need to chuck in some good compost, but it’ll have to be bought, as I stopped composting when it drew rats, then snakes, and I’m too cheap to buy one of those big expensive dumb-looking plastic barrel things. I hope you don’t have one, do you? No offense on it looking dumb, if you do have one. :) :)

Hey BRIAN MILLER!! I hear the impatiens met up with Scottish moss rose, Ukranian morning glory and Congo lily to roam Rome with quite wild abandon in mobs of bouquet that made all the people smile. :) They stormed the what’s that thing, oh yes, the Colliseum too and brightened the day. Those kids were all shivering, but kept on digging and such. And that rain was SO NEEDED, about 3 days of it.

Hey DEAR AYALA!! And those 2 little girls are just as sweet as can be, the smaller one a bit sassier than the brunette. But them both lovely, and lucky to have each others’ friendship. And soon it will be pansy season here, all winter, until June when the heat will put them to sleep for the summer, their seeds to waken in fall.

Oh my goodness ANNA, am I a good mother? Sometimes I guess, yes. :) Well, most times. :) Thank you. I do gotta say tho, I’m the funnest mom. (That’s what her friends say.) And now that Kelly’s getting older she’s embarassed less and less (usually) by me. We get to a point we are just happy to be who we are and not worry what anybody else thinks of our uniqueness.

Is that all of you? Let me check…

    Excellent.

I think I’ll make that cup of tea now.

So… we meet again, my friends. And I am drinking green tea, having just finished my bread-and-butter lunch.

Who’s at bat? Alice Audrey. She’s on first.

DEAREST ALICE AUDREY!! I actually did, yes, bring cold potable H2O to the Lake on occasion this summer. Of course they want to buy that crappy Gatorade in the vending machines. Actually, the brunette’s mom doesn’t let her drink that junk. But water, yes. Water, water everywhere, and with lack of acid rain here, the stuff falling from the sky is good to drink. Just hold out your tongue and imbibe.

DEAREST FRED!! And I want you all to know I did dig through 5 or 6 recent camera memory cards to find the late June gems. When Kelly was 1 was an AMAZING year for our impatiens. As was 1994. Now… if I’d truly been an astute meshing blogger, I’d've dug for the olde 1994 pix. But all in due time, i guess, all in due time. :)

DEAREST SNAGGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, the original Birthday Plan changed due to a vehicle snafu, but luckily that Saturday was WONDERFUL and still-hot for lake play. The gals liked it so much, after bacon and eggs they talked me into taking them down there, even tho yes, just a bit chilly due to evaporative cooling on skin. Glad I did go — got lots of great rain play pix. Just liked that one best, me with my umbrella and Kelly with hers. WHAT?!?!?! Those squirrels defied the Vampire’s worse enemy too — well ONE of his enemies. :) You had some gorgeous blooms, as I recall from some of your awesome pix this season. Maybe your petunias and my impatiens will rally yet!! :) :) And if not, next year will be better.

Well, hi — DEAREST AYA. You look like a movie star in your gravatar!! Long time no see. (I did see your e-mail addy.) Yes, getting bigger all the time. She was only 7 when you first started commenting, eh? Amazing how they grow. Thank you for coming back!! nice to see you.

DEAREST SARA V.! Funny you mention vincas, they are usually the ones that grow woody for me. In fact, I gave up growing them years ago, since impatiens were flourishing. Oh well, it just also occurred to me the sunlight is different outside our house since we built that big piece on. They do have mostly deep shade, but about a half hour arc of direct hot sun, maybe that pissed them off? :) And off to Rome they did roam. :)

DEAREST CHRIS — it was actually Brother Moonshine who swept all those fallen sentries to the curb. Blame it all on BB!! He does tend to get “swept” away, hardeehar. I saw him “planting” baby cicadas in that bed in May. Maybe they ate up all the good fixin’s afore the posies could. One of life’s great mysteries now. :)

DEAREST LYNNIE-BO-BINNIE!! Seriously?? Yours just starting to bloom finally?? Mine showed such awesome promise when newly-planted and I had the girls show them off — thinking ahead to a blog post, of course. :) :) Did you buy seedlings, bigger pots-full or plant from seed? maybe there’s a weird impatiens flu this summer?? hard to say.

    Anyhoo, all is quite awesome.

From what I had experienced, contrary to popular belief, it’s far easier with kids than with flowers. Kids can be nurtured and we get feedback. Flowers can likewise be nurtured but provide no feedback. One has to guess what went wrong or what was right! Nice photos too Jannie!

DEAREST SNAGGLE, I would and DO believe that about you buying the bargain seed. And I think I actually now remember you talking about that on your blog. I rarely plant from seed. And I’m a bit of a microwave cook most of the time. :) I had some come back one year too!! So cool when they reseed and sprout up. I wonder where impatiens are indigenous to? Jannie, rather than watch with only the eyes, allowing oneself to feel with the heart allows you to know how things are through the lens of love. A woman knows through her sixth or other higher senses how her loved ones are even when they are ‘out of sight.’ Always appreciate your witty poetry and entertaining images. Each one is an invitation to enter a new world, to stop and smell the flowers, to join the fun or whatever is going on in another point in time and space.
